Its great fun and well worth backing .... You cannot create Standalone games in Garrys Mod ( I don't think anyway ) And My World is more along that genre I personally feel .. but that has a huge following all the same and that's great fun ...

But GG and My World are Chalk and Cheese ... Its not really my thing but I will probably pledge for support ..
I have tried the Alpha though and its very impressive ...

It says you'll be able to "create and share with your friends". If you can't make a standalone, would this then be the equivalent of me sending you a map to load into the editor? Just curious. From the looks of it, it doesn't really suit me, either, but I may just back it to help these guys out. I gotta see some progress on GG though first. 2016 has been a horrible year in every facet of my life, and I just gotta see some light at the end of this tunnel!

It would be more similar to creating a map in GG and loading MP and hosting it for others to join in ..

Looks interesting, but at the current state of GG\Reviews all hands available at TGC should be at work on Game Guru - jmo.

That said I will await some of the feedback and still may back this for Ravey.

I've had first hand experience with this title and have done a bit of beta testing in the past. I liked it to a degree, but it was really not my bag, more aimed at the target audience GG was changed to try to accomodate. It was pretty fast though and the hand to hand combat felt a lot better than any in Game Guru to date. It just left me feeling why hasn't GG had this care given with combat? Why doesn't Game Guru have the terrain stamps that this has?

It's not a bad product, but as I have felt since trying it, Game Guru could be so much better with a little TLC in the game play area and feel this is testament to that fact. Not my thing, no interest in Little big Planet either, which this seems to be in a similar genre, albeit nowhere near as complex. I'm only interested in making actual games rather than variations of a game, within a game.

I agree. I can't say as I haven't played with the beta, but it looks much more polished than GG or Reloaded ever have been. But then, the promo screens for Reloaded looked extremely promising as well, and we are nowhere near what the Reloaded Kickstarter showed over 3 years ago! I would like to see a little TLC by TGC in the Game Guru area as well!

Explains why almost every email I send to Lee asking for simple fixes to core engine 'features' is answered with "I'm really busy right now". I had hoped he was "really busy" getting the EBE ready for release so we could get on with sorting out the AI.

Don't quote me ... But I think there maybe a Unity layer in there which would explain the engine speed and quality .... But I definitely agree a little more TLC with GG could turn the tide ... At least its more income and funding which is never a bad thing.

For me this was a Bantha Poodoo storm about to happen, but I've been good and waited for official TGC confirmation. It's a decent looking product, but not my thing and obviously, as has been painfully obvious to all, one reason why GG has slowed a little in it's dev speed. I hope it does well and helps all TGC products flourish though. After all, anything that can be transferred across quickly, would improve GG as well. Terrain stamps alone, as mentioned before, would be an improvement with GG's limited terrain tools. It's only annoying because we have been asking for this for ever with terrain.

Yep that's kind of my hope as well ...its funny I have created levels for many games using Radiant ,Hammer etc but I have always come to the same conclusion ... Make a game Quake, Half-Life for example... Then an editor and the results are amazing ( But you cannot create standalones with then )

Try to do an all in one Game Creator and it never goes as smoothly and the faults seem common for all attempts ..
Perhaps the answer is ... Make the game .... Then the editor that you can create standalones with ..... Just a theory

EDIT !! Mind you even back then you would need a million to be able to even licence ID's engine to develop a game in the first place so I guess " Save Standalone " in the editor wasn't an option

I fully understand that TGC needs to sell products and thus creates them for people to buy and spend money on, that's business and money must flow in to the company in order to survive.

But if this means that GG will not be developped into a product of which i thought i had bought after reading and seeing the presentation and before i experienced all the problems and limitations, i will want my money back!

I don't think it means that at all. I think GG will get there, it will just take time. I've known this from the beginning (kickstarter), and guessed 5 years at the time, but that was assuming nothing else (other than AGK) was going on. It might take a couple more years given this new app. And yes, I know Lee isn't working on these other projects directly, and GG is his baby, but as CEO, he MUST be involved in every product they develop, at least to a certain degree. The lack of attention to GG these past 4-6 months is evidence of that. It will get there (at least that's what I keep telling myself).

Which is understandable.
I've had my own business in the past and thus had end responsibility for everything so i was also involved in everything that was going on.

At this state GG is not making many new money I think. But if we want that the develop on GG continue, TGC need money. If not with GG at this time, than with other products.
As I saw it first on Facebook some hours ago, I thought "Nooooo"... but I don't know another way they could make the money to exist. They could take the Lifetime thing away from us. But than many of us will go away I think.
So the only way is crossfinance.

By the way... when I remember right, there was a similar product from TGC, many years ago.

As you say TGC must make money to survive ... If they don't there would be no money to give you back and GG wouldn't get finished .. You kind of answered it yourself really ..

I hope it makes them loads .... All the better for GG

Maybe big mistake using "MY World" as name.
Too many other things use this already. Did they even Google it first?
Just one example.
http://www.freeonlinegames.com/game/myworld

Not including all the music videos and music albums using it.

P.S. Opps already a Android app, well that is a stretch goal so might not make it.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.mfactory.myworld&hl=en

Wonder why they did not use AGK2? Maybe it is too incomplete.
The coffee is lovely dark and deep, and I have code to write before I sleep.

the idea that TGC would sooner invest time into this than polish up the game engine that they said was going to be an answer to FPS creator makes me so mad I could scream. If TGC spent a little bit more time turning GameGuru into something capable, instead of wasting a whole bunch of time asking for 10,000$ to make another, EVEN LESS CAPABLE "game maker", they would be outselling the likes of unity with their engine's ease of access and technical ability in the right hands.

Instead, they waste their time. I pray this doesn't get funded. If they had asked for 10,000$ to fix the unfinished excuse for a game engine they currently have, I would have happily dove into my wallet, but instead, this. For shame.

Quote: "After all, anything that can be transferred across quickly, would improve GG as well."

MyWorld is built using Unity, so it is unlikely that most components beyond the media could be readily transferred to GG (C# vs. DBPro/C++ and an entirely different architecture under-the-hood). I suspect this is why Lee had previously proposed to the possibility of reworking GG to use the Unity engine instead of DBP in one of the feedback threads, knowing that this other Unity project was already on-going.

Quote: " This is Raveys Baby ...."

Until your post I don't believe it was ever noted who specifically was spearheading this project. On the Kickstarter page they state "the team has the full breadth of skills, experience and expertise to develop MyWorld to its full potential, " and they mention the "Intel Black Belt" status (of which only Lee is an active member of). I'd like to see more transparency about specifically how many at TGC are working on this project and to what extent. In the past, the community has been shortsighted by TGC developers investing much of their time into undisclosed products to which the original backers were oblivious to (i.e., with the driving theory apps, Freedom Engine etc.)

My opinion is that MyWorld is going to be hit with the same sorts of criticisms as GameGuru with regard to TGC calling it an "easy game maker" that supports a multitude of genres. They list a diverse set of genres that they plan "to start with" including RPG/Action/Adventure/Racing/Sci-Fi Shooter/Platformer but then mention that beyond the RPG genre the others may not come unless stretch goals are met. This mirrors the promotion of GameGuru as an all-around game maker for so many kinds of games when it still is essentially just a FPS product.

I don't particularly see MyWorld as a "game maker" by definition, but instead is a standalone game with the ability to create, load and share customized maps via Steam Workshop from a bank of preset assets and triggers not unlike many other games on the market. It will not support binary standalone export and as such will require that all users have MyWorlds installed to play any of these experiences.

1. Why are you trying to compare C# with DBPro/C++? C# is a scripting language, DBPro/C++ are programming languages, two entirely different things with very little to compare.

2. Unity is not written in C#, C# is the language that the end user uses to script with, just like GameGuru isn't written in LUA. The Unity runtime is written in C/C++. This runtime is used in any build you create using the editor. The editor is built on the Unity runtime and additionally includes editor-specific C/C++ binaries.

Edit: They do use C# for more than just scripting though, the Editors GUI is written using C# scripts.

It makes the difference between "interesting stuff" and "nail in the coffin".

@Teabone: Is your opinion also reflected in the image I posted earlier?

If it cheers you up: The way you worded this makes it sound mighty suggestive.

Yes, i did give an answer to my own question.
But it is quite early to talk about 'my world' as a product which will make TGC loads of money, for now it is traveling the same road as the reloaded project in order to raise funds for it's development through kickstarter.

To be honest, this does not bode well given the past of TGC with unfinished products.
Not my words, i'm fairly new to all this, but that is the picture i am getting from this forum and elsewhere and i'm sure that i am not the only one.

It also raises the question, what is it that we have seen on kickstarter?
Is that a misleading picture in order to raise money?
Was this 'my world' a product of TGC, or in fact unity?

Many questions.

To be honest, the sane road would be to raise funds for the completion of GG, it has so much potential residing within and which is brought out to the surface by the community through coding in Lua.
I've said it before and will say it again, so far i am quite impressed with GG, apart from Lua it really is the easy game maker as promished.
It should not be to hard to include stock scripts for different genre's of games.
A view huds to choose from and better documentation on how to use it, that would already be a huge plus for the buyer and thus user of this product.

As someone who has two own games on steam and access to the sales stats of 20+ others, I can tell you just that:

Going all-in with GameGuru, meaning fixing, improving and promoting all those improvements cleverly, would make double or triple the money this Kickstarter has as base goal within 2-3 months. Easily.

If it WAS a totally different project nothing to do with anything else, ok, good luck and all the best with that. However, if so in terms of development, running a KS is a full-time job for the CEO of any company no matter how involved he / she is in the development of a project.

In a way, disappointing news, but not unexpected.

The TGC product catalogue seems to limp from Kickstarter to Kickstarter, all with the now familiar cycle of Kickstarter -> Greenlight -> Steam Release -> DLC I neglected to mention any early access component, since in my mind most TGC products never leave early access. I have little doubt that a few years down the line, 'MyWorld' will still be far short of what was promised or implied.

I am sorry to be so negative, but TGC continue to disappoint. Until TGC show a commitment and belief in the products people have already backed, I for one will be steering well clear of funding anymore TGC products.

Sorry.
