Hey SB!
Sorry, I missed your post and thanks for the compliment.
The mech is just a prop at the moment and before I decide wether I get it animated, I still have to get my lazy behind on the chair and texture it

The Mech reminds me of Robo Cop. I love the work, I also can't wait to see it textured.

...but its an improved version that can be piloted downstairs.

I finally got around texturing it. Its not perfect but I'm happy with the results so far.
The default texture is a very bright off-the-factory or arctic look that can easily be colored/modified in different versions. I also added a more traditional grey version.

I'm getting close to finishing up the batch of models I want to upload to the store and decided to put an end to the old generation of models.
I view all of my work in generations and I haven't really improved my skills since I made the Mystics Library Pack in 2013 (now part of a game guru megapack). If my first generation of models are the old large free packs on the old forums and the FPSC-Modelpacks for sale, the second generation started with the Mystics Library pack and quality hasn't much changed since, sometimes it even worsened. I think its time to evolve and put all the tings I have learned to good use.

I'll try to not only improve my meshes and reduce polycount in some places but also make significantly better textures. I might get into that whole PBR business as well and kinda go with the times a little.

At first I'll show some stuff that I have floating around my harddrive that never got finished, upload everything to the store and then I'll see how much I can improve upon my work

I am helping Wolf with the animations of these mechs.
This is the first setup for walking, the arms need more work offcourse and less movement,
But it is a start.

This is so beautiful!

Perfectly made, especially with the walking animation, I can almost fear the earth quake. Perhaps having the minigun spin a little faster would be nice, otherwise really powerful! I'm overjoyed you are doing this, Harry

Battle mech on c64 was fantastic. So much potential here an entire new genre this will put guru on the map

You need to make a mech like that but give it internal cockpit. Yep make transparent window and have fps version. Huds and efx in a cockpit like that will be mind blowing and seeing your screen Hud in the old fpsc
Makes me think you have a serious game and battling the above would be awesome so much potential I almost wanna ditch tw and mech out with this pun intended.

Harry and SmallG have done an outstanding job on this! Note that the mechs are also scalable

Next step will be for me to get them on the store.

Perhaps! Modeling a cockpit would be a challenge but its a good idea.... and nooo you are not going to ditch twin worlds

Thank you geistschatten! Their available soon, I just have to throw together a few screenshots but GG is acting up on me . You will be able to get them in a bundle.

Thats also why I post: You might notice that my store content counter below my avatar is going up, thats because I finally got around uploading the content I presented here and the old stuff still on my HD.

I'll do it like this: I'll post once the mechs are available and whenever I upload something that has not been shown on here before.

For starters: This little wind chime and some of the scifi media shown before are now up.

Thanks synchro! They are available now ...but why would you want those boring fully animated, ready to use, menacing battle mechs which you could even use as third person characters when you can have these super exciting wooden tables instead?

Oh! Thank you very much Ertlov!

I have always been fond of how you used these in Antimony. I assume this was also taken in the new unreal engine?

The model in question can be downloaded here! (for those interested).

I'll also like to note that all the scifi items presented earlier have now been uploaded to the store. At the moment I post this, they are not yet approved though.

And yes, this is Unreal 4.83, we are currently upgrading to latest. Rolfy's crates also survived the engine switch.

I take it you have no problem if we convert purchased assets from you and use them in UE4, too?

Sure, you guys can use them in any engine you like. Honored to see my stuff used across engines.

Now that everything I have shown before is on the store I am tending to all the old meshes never finished on my hard drive. Well...at least those still worth the effort, quite some stuff from way back doesn't hold up anymore. Some are interesting though!

This right here is a mesh from 2013 I just textured. Did so before, but I have accidentally overwritten the texture and thus never bothered again out of frustration. Here it is now:

Winged and unwinged version with slightly glowing crystal. I'm quite fond of how these oldies turned out.

Attached are the last old models that hold up well enough to be on the store. Not all of them, that primitive architectural pillar that you can use to make these archs will be a freebie soon.

The futuristic cube is an architectural prob to fill your level.

A marble pillar to go with other marble like assets I made so far

Architectural pillar akin to those I have had in my very first modelpack release back in the day. Will soon be free.

So the mechs - one is obviously a bushmaster (Battletech) style mech but very good in it's own right; what's the other one? I'm super familiar with BT/MW franchises and I really like your 'guard' model. Seems like a custom work or some medium like the hellspawn or solitaire. So just to sate my curiosity what was your influence for this mech? You can reply by PM if you prefer.

@Bolt Action Gaming: Thanks! And yes, its a Bushwacker stile mech. I loved Mechwarrior 3 as a kid and borrowed heavily from that design.
I made the other one (the guard mech) up. Only influence source for it is attached and its only for that shoulder cannon.

I must admit that aside from what I remember from ME3 (1999) I don't know all too much about Mechwarrior. ME4 seemed too campy for me at the time (but I heard good things about Mercenaries) and I lost track of the franchise since.

Thanks Synchro!

Hello gang!

I am back to modeling. Took some time off where I was either painting or working on Shavra as I decided that it was time for a new generation of models.
As I mentioned a few times above, my modeling has not improved all too much since I made the Mystic Library Set in 2013.
I am currently working on new packs and will be delighted to present them here. To get back into it, here is the first mesh since quite some time:

Ornate Pocketwatch

I am particulary fond of how the normalmap acts on the photograph...making it stick out. I think this item has a lot of soul to it and am pleased to have it usher in a new and (even if only slightly) improved aera of modeling. All be it that I won't have time for most of this month... I'll try to get some more on here and the store.

Please let me know what you think

The watch looks nice Wolf. Although, I can't help but think that the numerals would be better suited protruding from the watch face, as opposed to being indented.

I really like the effect of the normal map on the ornate detailing around the outside of the gold of the watch.

Cheers

Jay.

Quote: "Your attention to detail is wonderful - great photograph you've used there (those eyes!)."

Thank you very much! I got that photograph from CGTextures. LINK if you want to use it yourself.
All I did to it was age it a lil' and brighten the eyes.

@unfamillia: Hey! Is that you in your new avatar?

Also: Thanks! It was planned to have an entirely different ornate finish but I ended up using this. Am happy with it even though I only use half of the 1024² texture now

About the normalmap effect: I was already working on merging an inverted NM with the default one I generated for this, but to me, it looked protruded in Toolbag so I thought: "Hey! I don't even have to edit this anymore." Might be my brain seeing what should be there as you clearly see that the numerals are inward. I'll fix this once I get some "me" time again

Love your stuff Wolf. Can I be really (really, really) annoying and mention that numerals on a clock face don't use IV, they use IIII for 4.

This vintage stuff just what I need, hope you're putting on store.

Not entirely true, not all analogue watches/clocks use IIII instead of IV. One of the most famous clocks in the world has IV instead of IIII for a start:

I worked for a few years in the early 90's at the Harrison factory in St Albans (my boss was the multiple great grandson of John Harrison the great watch maker himself), all of our analogue watches used the correct IV for 4.

The use of IIII depends on the company that made it, and to a certain degree the country the watch was made. Older watches from the continent (mainly France and the surrounded areas) adopted the use of IIII on clock faces because of an incident with a clock and King Louis XIV. He was presented a hand crafted clock, built by a master clock maker, when King Louis saw that the number 4 as IV he remarked that it should be IIII as IV doesn't make sense, the clock maker tried to explain it to him but he refused to accept it and insisted it was remade, since then most continental watches have used IIII instead of IV.

In later years this was also "scientifically" justified as a better way of presenting 4 on a clock face, the reason given is putting IIII instead of IV creates a symmetry of characters with the opposite facing numbers, VII opposite IIII, looks more symmetrical than VII opposite IV.

Yes there are a lot of theories about why vintage watch faces conventionally use IIII and not IV. It doesn't really matter for most . Cheers.

About your nitpick: I have only recently noticed that! I was on the streetmarket in arlon (quite a famous one in belgium) browsing through a box full of old pocket watches like this and have found one that said IIII instead of IV. It was the first time I have seen this and it only came back to me now that you have mentioned it...so I had to google it!

I found this: LINK right away. Apparently no one has a clear answer on why that is.

Note that the texture I have used on mine is from an actual clock and that most clocks around my area (Luxembourg, Central Europe) don't use IIII. I think both are valid. Still an interesting curiosity.

I will!! If there is anything specific you need, feel free to ask. Might be up my alley.

@Belidos:

That would explain me finding one of these in belgium.

Thank you! Is that the main character from the siberia games as your avatar or am I mistaken?

Thanks! I'm happy with how it turned out as well. There was a point during texturing where I didn't want to finish it but I'm really happy now that I went through with it.

And now for some stuff I made! I have started slowly as I took a longer break from modeling and wanted to ease into it.
