Hi All,

I am happy to announce the release of the Alpha Build 3, which is now available from your TGC Account Product page. Be aware that this is an alpha build only which means it is function incomplete, may crash, and does not represent the final software of the product. If you are not comfortable with alpha builds, we recommend you wait until you see announcements of the first beta build.

This version now runs the IMGUI IDE under the 64-bit binary stub, powered by the Wicked Engine renderer. It also includes the logging system so anyone who experiences crashes can send us the .LOG files that will be produced as the software is launched. There is almost no active functionality in Alpha Build 3 except the ability to move around with the camera to view the Cellar Demo scene, but be careful not to leave the confines or find yourself floating in the void.

Again, for those of a mind to post outrage at the fact Alpha Build 1 had lots of functionality and Alpha Build 3 has almost none, best you avoid alpha build news until we start to release beta builds which by their nature are 'function complete' builds of dev progress. Also bear in mind the cellar demo is simply a placeholder to test the Wicked Engine renderer and does not represent the final graphics and content for our showcase to be created for the final release version.
GameGuru Classic will continue to be supported with bug fixes and functionality additions.

I see no purpose to post negative comments. Development is coming along quite nicely as I see it.
You even said that MAX would lose functionality as the old render pipeline is stripped out and replaced with the Wicked engine.
Also, +1 for the new GUI and 64-bit binary.

I downloaded and unzipped Alpha 3. When I run the GameGuru MAX Launcher.exe, I get the following error:

GameGuruMAX.exe - Application Error

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).
Click OK to close the application.

I just reinstalled the Windows Visual C++ redistributables to see if that helps. Be back after a restart ...

EDIT:

That did not help. The Alpha 3 throws me the same error and won't run. Both previous alphas ran on my system (i.e. the first one that was Classic with the new GUI and the second on which was just the Wicked Engine with the cellar demo scene).

EDIT 2:

The latest .NET framework is installed, too. Windows 10 is up-to-date.

My system specs are in my signature.

Yeah, it should be 11. I updated the card name, but not the VRAM. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll update my signature.

@ Argent_Arts
Does it generate a log file for you?
If so, maybe you could send it to Lee.

Edit to add some link then maybe useful

It did not. The app did not even run. This means no crash and, thus, no log file.

@Argent_Arts
That error is normally related to Win7 to Win 10 upgrade and is pretty common ..
Was your W10 an upgrade from Win7 ?
If so just try installing this ..
https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=36805
Reboot then try again

Nope. This was a Windows 10 build from the start. Even so, I tried to install what you linked to and Windows 10 said it wasn't compatible. So, it was a no go. Thanks for trying to help with this.

Thanks again. However, I've already tried all these. As noted in my first post, I had checked that I had the latest Windows Visual C++ distributables installed, I have the latest .Net framework, too. I've restarted several times and, as noted, my Windows 10 install has all the latest updates. I've also tried to run Alpha 3 as administrator and in Compatibility Mode. The first thing I did when I got the error was to Google it and see what solutions there were.

EDIT:

Okay! So, Dependency Walker is showing me that a bunch of files are missing that the MAX alpha is depending on. So, despite reinstalling the Visual C++ stuff, it looks like stuff is still missing. Sigh ...

EDIT 2:

I've followed the directions of the other links, uninstalled any redistributale with 2***, and reinstalled the Visual C++ framework. Alpha 3 still throws the same error at me. As a side note, all other game engines, games, and 3D modeling software are running properly on my system.

@Argent_Arts : Can you share the depends screenshot so I can see which dependencies are missing. It is designed for vanilla Windows 10 but as we are using some older modules we may be linking to some old DLLs. Thanks.

Someone reinstalling DirectX SDK has sorted out that issue.
Maybe you want to give a try.

Thanks, but no, that did not help. Sadly. But this is why we download and test the alpha - to find issues like this.

Yeah, so what can I say except it looks great, very smooth (no jitters) moving around in the cellar.
FPS for me is down to around 90 -120, mostly around the 108 mark, which is slower fps than the first demo, so really hoping that improves along the way.

But overall love the lighting, and looks to be shaping up nicely.

I must say it works like a charm for me, I've tried both launcher and executable file, and they work fine for me.

Now the very odd news: I'm getting the same wicked engine dlls missing here, with both GameGuruMAX.exe and GameGuruMAX Launcher.exe.

I've tried re-downloading. Nope. I've tried to move the folder and run it from various places. Nope. I've tried running as administrator and running in compatibility mode. Nope. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Microsoft Visual C++ Distributables and restarted. Nope. So far, nothing I do gets me past this error.

BTW - I don't have any of the previous alphas currently installed/downloaded (not sure if that helps or not ...).

EDIT - I've reinstalled Alpha 1 and unpacked Alpha 2. Both run perfectly well on my PC. Alpha 3 still does not and keeps throwing me the same error.

If I were you, I would try installing GGMax, maybe because I've it already installed I'm running fine the alpha3 demo, although I'm getting the same error like you, via DW.

I would say that we have exhausted all our options from the user side, now we can only wait for Master Lee to come up with a solution to the problem.
But it is very true, this is the goal of alpha versions, try and error until the balance is found.

most likely a missing dll (s) issue that are not used in previous alpha builds but added for alpha 3. see attached text file containing dll's used by the alpha 3 EXE.

I (almost) always keep my graphics drivers updated. And in this case, I am running the latest Nvidia drivers. Once again, the previous Alpha 2 runs flawlessly, and that's the one that should push the graphics card/driver. So, this is definitely something else. As Bored of the Rings stated, it's most likely missing DLLs. I just was hoping I wouldn't have to find and download each one to get this working ...

On my Acer Predator 17" ( i7 NVIDA 1060 ) I get a solid 60 fps . I run it off my E drive , no need to change sync rate here . When I run it off the Intel graphics I get 15-30 FPS ..

@Argent_Arts So the launcher is crashing ? try to start GameGuruMAX.exe directly.

\GameGuru MAX Alpha 3\Max\GameGuruMAX.exe

And it will always make a .log should be called "Guru-MapEditor.log" in the the same folder

And please also include "Guru-MapEditor-last.log" , as sometimes it might help.

Did that several times right after I first downloaded it. Same error. I figured the launcher was only there to launch the MAX exe.

Quote: "And it will always make a .log should be called "Guru-MapEditor.log" in the the same folder "

As stated previously, there is NO log file. The launcher is not crashing. MAX is not crashing, per se. It doesn't get a chance to even run. I double-click either the launcher or GameGuruMAX exe and I instantly get the error message I posted above. And, again, no log file at all.

Yes that's right if the exe cant run it cant create a log file. The .txt for alpha 3 has around 90 dlls and the alpha 2 has around 70 odd dlls. If you have all dlls referenced in alpha 3 txt file, I'm not sure what else it could be top of my head.

@Argent_Arts

The error 0xc000007b is very common with new installs of Windows and running games.

To remove the error try the way I found that works for me.

Search Google for 0xc000007b and look at you tube videos, they show you
how to install the missing dlls and will give a link to download the files.

You should end up with some thing like this

Folder SysWOW64 with these dlls below

msvcp100.dll
msvcr100.dll
msvcr100_clr0400.dll
xinput1_3.dll

and Folder System32 with these dlls below

mfc100.dll
mfc100u.dll
msvcp100.dll
msvcr100_clr0400.dll
msvcr100
xinput1_.dll

Find the two above folders inside your window Folder and copy them in.

Some may not copy, and you may need to reset computer as folder in use.

The you tube videos should help if you have problems.

This worked for me, and I hope it will for you.

@ Preben
I guess D3DCOMPILER_47.DLL is the shaders compiler, it is point to c:\windows\system32\D3DCOMPILER_47.DLL rather than
[i]C:\Windows\SysWOW64\D3DCompiler_47.dll[/i, it has something to do?

@ all
Please take care of downloading DLLs in unofficial sites, you may encounter in every trouble, and no just because of the viruses.
Sometimes reinstalling DirectX the error is solved, but this looks like a different scenario, for Argent_Arts.

This is not a new install of Windows. This system is several years old (more than three, currently) and only the video card has been updated. All my video games (more than 200 and counting) run fine on ultra settings. My 3D programs run fine, too. Every program runs fine. GameGuru MAX alpha 3 is the first to give me this error.

All those DLLs? They are present in my System32 and SysWOW 64 folders.

Yep. When I had reinstalled the first alpha, it reinstalled DirectX. Plus, doesn't WIndows 10 come with DirectX 12 already?

Run dxdiag to be sure.

Yep, me, too (1903). Dxdiag definitely shows DirectX 12.

I recently installed my complete system, and do not have any prior versions of MAX demos on my system, and I also have a three monitor setup.
The current demo runs fine for me here.

Running two monitors, both running. The previous alphas had no issues with this and neither do any of my other games and apps.

The screen resolutions are:

Monitor 1 - 2560 x 1080 (ultra-wide)
Monitor 2 - 2560 x 1440

Yep, tried running it as admin (I believe I had mentioned this above somewhere) and I have administrative rights to my system, too.

Thanks, everyone, for trying to help.

Nice one, but I miss the Zombie from the sneak peaks.

Performance is rather lowe around 60 fps. on my GTX 970 running on a 1440p screen.
However, when I clone the entire scene and paste 4 times next to each other, it only drops a few frames.

@Argent_Arts what AV package do you have installed? some AV packages from AVG, AVAST, Norton, MacAfee do not like Visual Studio runtimes especially the 64 bit versions, this has been a headache for me with my Asset Manager, even though i have paid for code signing verification these AV apps sometimes block my app silently!

Now that Max has been compiled as 64 bit this is the common denominator Max1 and 2 were still 32 bit.

Please disable any AV software and redownload Max3 if using Edge Browser to download the Max 3 demo you may see an error message telling you the download is unsafe again this is sometimes silent and you will not get a notification.

Also please remember you have to install 32bit AND 64bit VS runtimes on Windows 10 even if it is 64bit !!

@GraPhix - I am using Windows Defender for my AV. So, there shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I don't use Edge for anything. I currently use Firefox and Dissenter to browse. You're right, though, I did only install the 64-bit versions of the VS runtimes. I'll go an install the 32-bit versions, too, and report back. Thanks for trying to help. I do appreciate it.

I think installing 32bit runtimes will cure your issue even though we are in 64bit times 32bit will never disappear,
In 64-bit Microsoft Windows, this assumption of parity in data type sizes is invalid. Making all data types 64 bits in length would waste space, because most applications do not need the increased size. However, applications do need pointers to 64-bit data, and they need the ability to have 64-bit data types in selected cases. These considerations led the Windows team to select an abstract data model called LLP64 (or P64). In the LLP64 data model, only pointers expand to 64 bits; all other basic data types (integer and long) remain 32 bits in length.

If Lee is compiling for 64bit and not Any Cpu the package will not include 32bit runtimes even though they may not be needed windows will expect them.

Hi,
Still cannot run this, no log file created, I get a large white screen for a few seconds then it disappears and then I get another white screen exactly the same as the first and that one disappears.

No messages on screen or error messages also.
