Thank you 3com, the article in the link is very interesting and I was unaware of this. I had previously read that all new VC redistributed were via Win 10 but I never knew why (or cared )

I'll try getting 2017 redistrib. tomorrow

EDIT: Can't install it as 'it's already installed' - I'd forgotten that I had already done this with when attempting to install 2015 version

@Argent_Arts : Can you run DEPENDS.EXE and open the GameGuruMAX.exe file on your system for me?

Here is the link to get the 64 bit Depends app: http://www.dependencywalker.com

You can then SAVE AS and send me the DWI file it produces, I can then compare with the one on my system. This might shed some light

This is what I see with Alpha Build 3:

You might also check out Alpha Build 2 to see what DLLs have been added, which might explain which new dependence is messing up.
GameGuru Classic will continue to be supported with bug fixes and functionality additions.

@Argent_Arts: I did notice that you only had 2012-x86 installed and not x64 if I recall correctly. not sure if MAX uses that but might be worth a try,

@Lee: I've sent you the DWI file via email.

As a side note, I'd posted a screen shot of Dependency Walker opening the GameGuruMAX.exe file on the first page of this thread.

@Bored of the Rings - Interestingly enough, when I go to install the 2012 redistributables for x64, it offers me the option to REPAIR them, implying they are already installed. The same if I try to do the x86 installation of the same. Even so, Windows only shows one installed when I go to Apps & Features - the x64.

@Argent_Arts : Try this one instead, as it accounts for the rogue DLL errors (mostly). Also collapse the main list of DLLs so I can see all the DLLs directly associated with the EXE, if that makes sense (like in my shot).

HURRAY! I was finally able to fix it! Apparently some of my DirectX files were corrupt. I couldn't do an install as the DirectX installer said DirectX was installed and that was that. However, I was able to download a version from Microsoft that goes through your installation, looks for corruption and missing files, and fixes them. After running this, Alpha 3 now runs perfectly on my PC!

Thanks! The clue was that the Dependency program was not finding d3dx11_43.dll despite me being able to find it on my system.

@winalot - Not sure how to guide you. Mainly because I don't know what the problem is. Did you download the Dependencies app that Lee linked me to (above on this page)? Did you run it and point it to GameGuruMAX.exe and then see any errors?

@winalot - Google is your best friend here. I had simply typed in, "reinstall directx 11" and the second post down (for me) led me to this link:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

Download the file, run the EXE, and follow the instructions.

I ran the Dependencies app and the output looks exactly the same as Lee's.
I also re-installed DirectX 11 (as per Agent_Arts)
I have the very latest Win 10 build.
All my other 3D software runs (Unity, Unreal, Blender, 3DS Max, Godot and other various 3D software)

Both Wicked Engine and GG Max Alpha still will not run.

Any suggestions - preferably not rude

You're trying all these things, but you've not addressed what could be the main issue. You had contacted me via PM for help. There, you revealed you had a GTX750 video card. That card only has 1GB of memory, which is probably too low to attempt to run alpha3 with the demo level in it because the card probably can't load all the textures/materials into memory. Lee has said that MAX's minimum specs require a GTX950 (wasn't it?). So, your card is not suitable for MAX.

The graphics card is not the problem. Someone on this forum has ran it with a lower spec card - albeit with a ridiculously low frame rate.

Reading all of your posts here, the only thing you've told us is that when you try to run either alpha2 or alpha3, you get a white window. Your issue is completely different than mine was. Even so, this tells you that it is trying to load the demo (you get a window), but it can't (nothing loads into the window, so it's white). Frankly, that sounds like your video card is failing to load the scene. Just because someone else with a lower card was able to run it does not mean that your card is not the issue. You have DirectX installed, your output looks like Lee's, but the alpha does not run. Unless you give us something else to go on, your video card seems like the prime candidate.

Are you attempting to run this on a laptop? Do you have both a dedicated video card (your 750) and on-board graphics? If you do, then perhaps the alpha is attempting to run off the on-board graphics instead of your 750.

I am not a gamer. In my spare time I like to dabble with 3D modelling and I have an aging PC and a very modest but adequate graphics card (GTX70 Ti). I will be upgrading to a much more powerful system ….. but not just now. I was going to upgrade my card last week but it seemed pointless putting it in a older PC. I'd rather upgrade the whole rig.

The problem, I believe lies with Wicked Engine. I cannot run this yet it probably opens without a test level already loaded.
I accept that I could have issues with the embedded levels of GG Max alpha 2/3. It's a pity the alpha doesn't come with the option to load the level rather than having it opening automatically. If I loaded, a few simple low poly assets, it would run.
I contacted the Wicked Engine developer but he couldn't help.

I do really appreciate your help, thanks

But this is the issue - I asked for specifics and you don't say anything about them. It's hard to help if you don't give answers. I had asked, are you using a laptop? Do you also have on-board graphics? Could it be that both the Wicked Engine and GameGuru MAX's alpha are attempting to access your on-board graphics instead of your GTX 750 ti?

Now you say you have an aging PC. What are it's specs?

Having revisited your PMs with me, I see you have an i5 and 8GB system RAM. i5 CPUs are not bad. 8GB is not horrible, either. I doubt that either of these are causing you issues running either Wicked or the alpha. So, if you have DirectX properly installed, then what else could the problem be?

BTW - You didn't say, but did you ever bother to download the Dependencies program Lee linked to and run it? It can help to point out issues and it's what eventually led to my solution.

I'm trying to help here (and I bet others would, too). But telling us you're not a gamer and only dabble in 3D modeling is NOT going to help us help you find a solution to why either Wicked or alpha3 is not running on your system.

PC, i5, 8GB RAM, GTX750 Ti, Win 10 Pro Educational - latest build v10.0.18363
I have run the Dependencies program yielding a result identical to Lee's (as mentioned previously)
Installed/re-installed VC++ redistribs. mentioned in the thread.
Downloaded and installed the older DirectX installer you linked me to.

When I say I am not a gamer, I meant that I don't take it too seriously

Sigh. You still haven't answered my questions:

- Is your PC a LAPTOP?
- Do you have ON-BOARD graphics?

After this, I'm done. It's like pulling teeth ...

PC is a platform (i.e. not a MAC). Both laptops and desktops can be PCs. This is why I specifically asked if your PC is a LAPTOP. Sheesh, man.

Quote: "Not using onboard graphics."

I didn't ask if you're USING on-board graphics. I asked if your system HAS on-board graphics. I had a laptop that had a powerful Nvidia card (dedicated graphics), but it also had on-board graphics. One program ran terribly slow. Why? Because it was using on-board graphics even though I had set up my system to use only the Nvidia dedicated card. So, even if you're not purposefully using on-board graphics, I was fishing to see if this could possibly be a problem. However, since you have a desktop, I am going to assume this cannot be the case since your monitor would be directly connected to the video card.

In any case, I'm done. I hope you figure out your issue.

Actually PC just means "Personal Computer", a Mac is a PC as is a laptop or even a smart phone.

In fact nowadays they all pretty much share the same hardware, none of which is in anyway related to the original IBM PC specification which you are more likely referring to.
Been there, done that, got all the T-Shirts!

Yes, that is true. However, remember the Mac vs. PC commercials? Wasn't the Mac also a PC? So, no, the common usage is that a PC is a non-Mac computer and is (normally) a Windows machine.

As far as them sharing the same hardware, that's going to change (again). Apple is getting ready to go back to using their own ARM processors for their Mac computers.

My video was not one to judge GG assets when Max is released. I will say though that they weren't PBR, they were the old DNS models with DNS textures. So that may not have helped in Wicked, but the textures were all in place. I also didn't have loads of lights around as in the Max Demo (just one). The issue I had with Wicked here was if you change certain camera stuff (range for example) and such in the builder, when you reload it, it resets. So it was hard to do any real testing as it was such a pain to setup all the time.

When I saw the live broadcast and saw Lee bring in some barrels, I thought oh ho my vid has had an effect My video description did say quick and dirty import

I think the PBR system is not fully implemented in GGMax, what the engine is using now is a kind of PBR view that makes all models look a bit like PBR, even though they don't have PBR textures.

I’m wondering if it would be possible to make a hybrid traditional gameplay/VR game with MAX, as in have a few levels to play with keyboard and mouse, and have some be virtual reality. If that’s still a bit confusing, take a look at my (work-in-progress) game description, maybe you can see where I’m coming from:
Quote: "It comes included with over 15 different weapons of different types and nationalities, and 5 different ranges, with an extra 3 VR training exercises."

I've had issues getting the alpha's to start. Alpha two froze my desktop and Alpha 3 won't seem to start with the error "Runtime Error: 7220 0"
The first Max release seemed to work fine, so it's weird it no longer works.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The first Max release was using the GameGuru engine, 32 bit, basic stuff.
However Alpha 2 and 3 are running the Wicked engine, 64bit, windows 10 and require a higher end Gfx card, IE, GTX960

What are your full specs ?

Hello everyone,

I pre-ordered GG Max but cannot locate the Alpha build DL on my TGC page. Any ideas?

Thanks!

It should be in your TGC account under " Products "
Did you order using the same Email you use to log in your TGC account ?
