Hi All,

We are thinking of including a few game demos in GameGuru Classic, and would like to ask the community which of the GameGuru games that have been released over the last five years stood out for you? We realized that some are a few years old now, but for new Classic users, it might be good to be able to try them out in one place, and where better than GameGuru Classic itself.

If you have suggestions on what you feel would make a great one-level demo game for inclusion to GameGuru Classic, please post here, and we will check them out. We have had some great reviews recently, perhaps due to the rounds of 'total bug fixing' we did in 2020. We aim to continue this in 2021 with the first zero bug count update in March this year, and it might be a good idea to treat new users to something more than the sample games that let's face it, haven't changed much in five years.

Looking forward to hearing about your top picks!
GameGuru Classic will continue to be supported with bug fixes and functionality additions.

Literally every game that is better than average uses custom media. And I highly doubt the people who spent insane amount of time and effort into their projects would be willing to share it for literally nothing^^

Maybe I am wrong tho and this is just my personal opinion.

by the way Lee, is there a chance of AI fixes or more performance improvements for classic ?

Personally I liked Father's Island from Ivan Ertlov. It has a nice atmosphere and good narrative.

This all depends if the demos are locked or fully accessible. If its a locked demo that can be played but not edited, it would help show what you can make with Game Guru Classic and also be used to promote the game the demo is derived from.

Though for sample editable maps, I don't think many people who have released anything commercially will give that up. Given the amount of custom assets involved, some contracted and purchased most likely.

Another but similar issue, most released games contain content from the Game Creator Store. Also, typically all of the released games that are not commercial, contain Game Creator Store assets.

Father's Island is good. Ertlov is one of the best. I'd rather see focus on GGMax.

I'd also imagine putting your small game up to be a demo could automatically stigmatize it as a passionless hobby project.

It shouldn't be a released game, but just some demo made from scratch, and just with the idea of a demo guide for other users, and it could be made with just stock meshes to make it doable for everybody. IMHO

Perhaps from the Welcome screen allow users to run a couple of included Standalone Demos rather than ones they could edit. Just to show what can be done without anyone who donates worrying about their scripts or assets being used. Its a win win for anyone selling a game and a good built in Advert for GameGuru.

Or Maybe a free Standalone Demo DLC type of thing they can choose to download.

I'd like to suggest the first game demo I made with GG Classic,

Can change screens to fit a standard if needed.

I have a compiled demo of Father's Island, would have to look if I have the source and if it is GG DX11 compatible.
And I feel really flattered about the mentions
"I am a road map, I will lead and you will follow, I will teach and you will learn, when you leave my sprint planning you will be weapons, focused and full of JIRA tickets, Hot Rod rocket development gods of precision and strength, terrorizing across the repository and hunting for github submits."

When you can get assets spawning via script, then the games will automatically evolve tremendously by their very nature. After custom models, progressive scripting is very high customization value. But it doesn't make any sense with 32 bit Classic. I would concentrate on this for MAX. What is the new NDA that is stopping GGMAX progress at this time?
As for DEMOS; how about a $7 DLC that people could submit into and receive either a one time payment or some credit or etc?... Like mentioned they should be stand-alones, unless the participant is okay with open release. Of course sometimes a name-in-lights acknowledgment is just as nice a payment to see.

I agree with both 3com and synchromesh. If its an editable demo, it should be a game made up of only stock assets. If its not, it should be a locked demo that people can play and test but not edit. This way people can even promote their games by sending in demos.

A part from custom assets being possibly shared, another concern could also be about someones demo level becoming a steam uploaded asset flip :S

Very glad to hear GG Classic getting some love by the way

Agreed
We would all hope these users will upgrade to Max eventually but in the meantime nothing wrong at all with keeping classic supported

+1
I must admit I'm very focused on GGMax and my project lately, although I agree with it.
Long live to GG.

@Lee & Co

Not in the same league as any of the above but I have "Saviour" which I did a looooong time ago for a competition on another site, can't even remember which one now. It's on sale in the store here, but if Lee would like to consider it, it's not a shoot em up, more of a small walking simulator with puzzles, Lee did comment on it way, way back in a broadcast.

Example : "The Dam" (SparrowHawk 2016).
