I have been learning some basics of blender and came up with a question that should I do my models in cycles or blender render for gameguru. I saw that my recently made model was not supported in gameguru and that was made in cycles render. Cycles render is more realistic than blender render but I don't know will it support gameguru?

Both work fine, as long as you UV map the object and bake the texture it should be fine.

Blender render is a lot easier to use, and to be honest all the realistic improvements of cycles won't port over to a texture unless you're baking all the different channels and going the pbr route, and hence won't look any different in a game engine to a blender bake.

Cycles can be confusing with all the different nodes and such, and it's more geared towards creating realistic models for image and animation renders.

Personally I do everything in Blender render, then make my own normal and spec maps in GIMP or normalizator, it's just easier and quicker, and now we're heading towards PBR I won't even be doing the textures in Blender at all, just the model and uv maps, which I will then texture in substance painter.

But my models are not working in gameguru. I rendered those in cycles and imported those but it was impossible to use those.

to put a model in gameguru it must be exported as a .x

renders usually produce an image file like a .jpg or a .png

if you're baking your objects shading onto its texture with cycles, the model need still be exported as a .x with a .fpe file for it, the texture will be a .dds

I exported my model in .x format and my texture was in .dds. I also included a .fpe file. But after importing I saw a small white dot, not my model.

A small white dot means that it cant find your .x file listed in the fpe, check what you have called it in the fpe, you may have spelt it wrong

make sure you go to object view in blender (press tab - the model should now be solid and no lines etc) then check the model is selected (press A - it should be highlighted in yellow) and then export as .x
for basic models i recommend just bring your model in via the GG model importer (open GG go to file -> import model)
blender definitely works fine in GG as even i have done it a few times (including with the new preview) and i'm really inexperienced with making models.

p.s. you will need to scale your objects by a lot in blender to make them a good scale in GG (best to do it in blender rather than the importer/fpe but it won't matter much for quick testing.

That was going to be my next suggestion, wanted to make sure he had the fpe set properly first

your file name in windows explorer is "Wooden Barrel" with a space, but you've used "_" in the FPE.

Change your texture file to Wooden_Barrel.dds and your .X file to Wooden_Barrel.x

Hi all

@Vamsly Productions.

In the FPE:
desc = can be anything you want,
model = must be the same name used for the .x, the bmp, and the FPE, in File Explorer
texture = can also be anything you want, but must be the same name used for all your .dds files. This makes it possible for several models to share textures.

Example
FPE:
desc = my barrel
texture = my_barn_set_D.dds
model = mybarrel.x

File Explorer:
mybarrel.bmp
mybarrel.fpe
mybarrel.x

my_barn_set_D.dds
my_barn_set_I.dds
my_barn_set_N.dds
my_barn_set_S.dds

Also, don't make changes while the engine is running - GG does not like to multi task . Close Game Guru make the changes, then restart your engine.

With regard to cycles I agree with Belidos, it is way more complicated than Blender Render, and for game engine models it is much easier to make you textures using external programs.
