Hello

Teaching myself a bit of modelling I will post stuff here for the community to use, criticism, tips or any advice would be greatly appreciated
also requests lol.

All models provided here are the property of (Kevan Hampson) GraPhiX , they are free for commercial or non-commercial use only in GameGuru projects, they must not be shared or distributed in any form or any way except within a GameGuru game developed by the person or persons downloading the models from here, unless written consent has been given by me.

Lets start with some Litter Bins (UK Style)

Aesthetically it is well done, but from my point of view, unsuitable for video games.
Nearly 7,000 polygons for a basket are exaggerated.
The texture should make it a unique one, and not divided into several images.
The texture for a small object better if they are on the 512x512

Thank you for sharing your work!

@GraPhiX, you nailed the style and look of the bins, but, what lotgd is saying is, they are too high poly for use in games. These are essentially 'filler' assets that won't really play an integral part of the game, so, they don't need to be as detailed (mesh wise). My advice would be to include the word 'Litter' in the texture and allow the normal map to give it a bit of depth.

If you are using Blender to make these, then, the in engine font creator, makes some pretty awful meshes for text and they are always stupidly high poly. I would remove the mesh versions and just put it in the texture.

Looking at the file structure for these bins, I am assuming that you may be struggling with UV mapping? If you are, I can help with that.

Before GameGuru was named as such, it donned the name of FPSC Reloaded. I mention this, as I made a few tutorials, trying to teach people how to make models and get them prepared for said engine. If you are struggling, please feel free to watch these, I believe they might help.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPgQfd5bb4g&list=PL2fWo8eoaiUZpZDk5hNqwKTuQXWT8hm3f

Great looking start mate! With a little bit of work, these will be perfect for games.

Cheers

Jay

Hi Guys

thank you for your comments, yes I am struggling with UV mapping, I have reduced the polycount quite a lot now thanks for the tip lotgd,

I am not using blender at the moment I am using Sketchup 2016, I have just installed the UV Toolkit plugin and will play with that see what I can do.
in my toolbox I have:

Blender - latest
Sketchup 2016
Ulitmate Unwrap 3D Pro (not used it yet seems complicated will look for youtube vids)
PixPlant version 3 (very good texture tool)
DirectX Meshview (just to check X files are ok)
FragMotion (never used)
Photoshop CS5.1
Quixel Suite 2
Gimp
Paint.net (to create DDS)

I think if I export my models to OBJ I can use Unwrap 3d for the textures but I have no clue how to use it, I think if I am correct it does support skp files from what I have read, not sure how I would then map the textures to my x model, so with this in mind I think I need a crash course with ultimate unwrap

Hi Guys, I posted this in feature creep but thought I would put it here to

its basically an aligning tool I created it to help me build a marina and scale/line up my buildings, it also helped getting the canal straight too
its very rudimentary but you are welcome to it if its any use

forgot to mention it is 100 metres long with 1 metre increments

That gasometer is great, thanks GraPhix. out of interest though, would there be any chance og getting one with gates that are openable? I'd love to use this as the start for one of my post apocalyptic settlements

@JPH-GAMES your are welcome

@Zero_HP I have created a new one for you with no gates, for the time being you can use gates from GG \entitybank\scenery\chainlink fence(gate)
I don't know how to create animations at the moment I am playing with Fragmotion, as soon as I can animate a gate I will post it here, sorry to have let you down

Hey GraPhiX, there are some good tutorials, if you are interested, on how to add animations to a door on youtube. some of them use blender, which is free and give step-by-step instructions.
I'd find you an exact one I'd seen before that was helpful, but I gotta go, so I have no time. Should be easily found with a quick search on youtube though.

GraPhiX, I've had a think on your question of if i need anything for my map, and actually I could really use a couple of signs. One for my gun/ammo store: something like 'Guns/Ammo' or 'Armoury' would be awesome. And one to go with an item vendor too, something along the lines of 'Supplies' or just 'General Store' or something like that would be perfectly fine

I was thinking something like this, to put on the outside of buildings. Something not as colourful and clean though, lol
Maybe something in the style of the Arkadia sign, like rusted metal and such would be awesome.
Although the freestanding ones you linked already would also be really useful
