here it is Resident Evil with guru.

I will like to give credit and thanks to Disturbing 13, cybernescence and synchromesh

I will be releasing the fpe with the crosshair al you guys have to do is.
copy paste a duplicate of the colt 1911 and just name it colt19112 folder
then replace the crosshair with this one.
add the x file of the masked soldier into the folder I uploaded.

you can also use any character you make from character creator easy.
just copy paste the 3rd person fpe and add the x file name or just copy paste the animation to the character fpe.
you can use any stock character as well. also in the guru editor offset x =15.

Oh my deity! Is that all that is needed? To change the crosshair, edit the fpe, and offset the camera? Wow, I never thought it would be that simple. Would that work with other weapons, and maybe even melee?

All we need to do now is be able to have no weapon and collect them like we do in first person lol

Is there any way to increase the firing distance ?
If I go slightly higher towards isometric you have to be really close to shoot the enemy ?

EDIT !!
Oh I see now ...The crosshairs need to be on the target or within the distance

If you want to be able to pick-up ammo using this method, change this line as below in ammo.lua:



The reload anim doesn't fire, but at least can reload on empty.

thanks guys .. yes I felt we were having a drought on this forum with lack of updates no new news.lol so I felt it was time for something new for guru.
ok now as far as the ammo goes I just use the guru editor to change the ammo quantity to like 50 or 100. as have talk about stuff like this before game mechanics is a must for guru. I so did not want the EBE and felt the grid and snap mode was enough to build a level. I am not waiting on the update and don't care for it unless it involved having more game mechanics for the 3rd person. now with this being known for the 3rd person guru will not be look at as a first person shooter engine.I am going to keep brain storming on this ideal but I also am working on my 3rd person top down scifi in which I will be revealing soon. summertime with game guru is fun again.

I tied to set it up, but couldnt get it going.
Might You please help me? That would be great

Here are the steps I took:

(1) copy folder: GameGuru\Files\gamecore\guns\modern\colt1911
(2) pasting it and renaming it: GameGuru\Files\gamecore\guns\modern\colt19112
(3) inside this colt19112 pasting the "crosshair.dds" and replacing the existing.

(4) Taking the Folder 3rd person and placing it at the path: GameGuru\Files\entitybank\3rd person MXS\3rd person
Now this folder contains: "Masked Soldier3rd2.fpe" and "crosshair.dds"

(5) then I add the files: "Masked Soldier.x", reloaded2_d, reloaded2_n and reloaded2_s (taken from the folder GameGuru\Files\entitybank\characters) and add them into GameGuru\Files\entitybank\3rd person MXS\3rd person

(6) Now I create a new Level. Now I can add the Masked Soldier3rd2. Which script do I have to asign to Masked Soldier3rd2 to make it be my 3rd Person Player

Please, might You tell me, what I missed or did wrong, or might have to do.

Non .... As MXS says ....Drag the character onto the start marker .... Just like the Wizard ..

This looks pretty nice, not tried it yet but will be giving it a try very soon!

Edit - Just tried it, no luck here. It works in 3rd person okay but just floats about without animating. I've only copied the fpe, model and textures into a new directory though not touched the crosshair or gun yet, as I just wanted to see it run about first. Do I have to change the crosshair as well for it to work? Or is that only a cosmetic thing?


SPECS: Q6600 CPU. Nvidia 660GTX. 8 Gig Memory. Win 7.

You won't get any animation because the fpe can't find the gun . At least that was my problem when I first tried it ..

You must set the gun or it doesn't work

Yes this, you must set up the gun first. I accidentally named my new gun wrong and got the same effect as RGB, no animations and no control.

Have it working now. Nice stuff!
Anyone else who is struggling to get this working, remember to copy the colt1911 folder in gamecore/guns/modern rather than in the entityfolder!

Edit - Just tried it with another character. Working, but I seem to have got the wrong texture. Somewhat freaky! Thought I'd share before I fix him

I'm glad you all are enjoying this. as a community game engine I think we all need to share as much as possible to help bring game guru to it goals along with Lee. I think Lee code the stuff in the engine but he does not fully realize the full potential of the features. I believe this how the 3rd person is meant work as a 3rd person shooter. as I have said before guru is like a puzzle you just have to know where to put the pieces to make it work right. I don't compare this engine with any other engine I believe game guru stand in a league of it's own just like fpsc did. every easy game maker has it limits but it take a good game developer the push those limits.

there is more in-store for guru 3rd person projects I am working on. you already know I have lasers projectiles but I also have arrows and bullet projectiles. also the melee 3rd person working. there is so much more to be done here.

Grat work MXS!, thanks for sharing.

at firts glance, it works for me, anyway I've notice in your vid than you are getting crosshair in front of player, but me does not, rather that, I'm getting crosshair at the right side of the player.

I've placed crosshair in GameGuru\Files\gamecore\guns\modern\colt19112, and your folder in char folder, does this make the difference?

And player turn a bit after each shoot, and yours does not.

here is the set up you need in the editor


camera lock yes
camera distance 300
camera x offset 6
camera y offset 300
camera focus 20

this will give you the top down like in the video. enjoy

Ok despite my best attempts yesterday even using camera and distance at 600 the sight is now in the middle of the screen ..
I didn't have the focus set right ...Thanks MXS

But the sights need to be right on him right ?
Theres no leeway ?

Works awesome though ....Really makes me want more of this with more options

Hello,

the 3rd Person Mode in RE Style really looks totally great
Nice work. And works nice. Also works with picking up the Ammo.

(1) Would that also work with a second weapon (same way: copy and renaming etc.)?
Did someone make already experiences with that?

(2) Does anyone have an idea, how to set up or change the flashlight correctly, to make it proper work with 3rd Person Mode in RE Style?
When I turn it on, my Soldier is in the Spotlight. Might someone please know help, how to change it, that only the area infront of the player is lightened up?

This is only a third person work around ..... Once things get integrated officially ( via voting ) we should have all weapons, new Camera angles, all characters so don't expect to much at the moment ...
I have the machine gun changing names and it works ok .... But right now it seems only the crosshairs touching the enemy will kill.

That's because you haven't offset the camera enough for the third person character. That's the whole point of that step, it stops the crosshair from touching the player character and shooting itself.

Hello,

I tried to create a female character wth the character creator, that works for the "3rd Person Mode in RE Style".
But something seems with the animation going wrong.
Each time the gun is fireing, the female does a an attack with the hand (hits in front).

Might please someone has a hint for me, what to do, to fix this?

For example when my character using a shotgun, he hold it like a pistol. And i know there is animations for holding a shotgun or rifle. How can I fix that?

At the bottom of the FPE file there is a list of CSI animations, next to each is the start and end frame for that animations, you need to swap those numbers with the numbers of the equivalent shotgun animation.

Also, will we eventually be able to click and drag any character onto the starting point arrow for third person rather than have to use scripting? Just like how we can currently do it with the wizard?

@Dagger_Valley I believe Lee will have a mode in the character creator that will give you the option of 3rd person player or enemy. but as far as using custom characters you are on your own. that why it is good learn this way. this is not a script base fill in for 3rd person. this is just a modify fpe set up which will be the same as the 3rdperson set up when put it in guru. the true is if everyone learns this way Lee could just skip modifying the creator and give us more features in the 3rd person like switching weapons and enable the missing animations like reload. we can already pick up health weapons and ammo. but it maybe also hardcoded for the animation to change which means more animation commands in the fpe so the player can switch and hold each different weapon the right way. fpsc have this in it and all Lee has to do is add this feature to 3rd person and allow it to read from the gunspec file.

for example pistol = 1 shotgun = 2 so animation set 1 will be pistol set 2 will be shotgun. I already have an ideal how lee can add the feature in with ease for switch weapons. like said fpsc stock character have this feature in them. also the wizard can have a magic meter right now. there is a lot possible right now and guru is more powerful then given credit for. also this is not a work around this is the true way of the 3rd person without character creator mode. the other way to not use the crosshair is to use projectiles. that is the leeway. also we can make enemies throw fireballs like doom. there is so much to uncover in guru you all don't even know. my full focus is game[play!

I'm actually content with relying on the character creator option for my games, at least for the foreseeable future since I'm more focused on GG itself and basic 3D modeling.

If I'm only able to use CC instead of a third party tool for custom characters (such as Fuse), especially if/when more features are included in CC, then that perfect for me!

we can do a lot already, just need a few more basic features (real physics please) and i should think a full 3rd person game can be made

another question, the speed of the mouse is too slow, i put the speed at 200 or more but nothing happens.
