@ShN33ky,
I find Windows built in protection is all I need. Haven't used third party virus tools for years.

I usually tend to wait a whole before considering an upgrade to a new OS version. To hear some of the feedback and reviews first. So far it doesn't appeal to me yet. But it only has just released so I'll wait till sometime later in 2016 lol

I upgraded to Windows 10 on July 29th but decided today to revert to Windows 7.

The last straw for me was the nag screens pushing native apps. For instance, I have Irfanview associated with all of my image file types so that when I double-click an image file, Irfanview displays the it. In Windows 10 when I clicked a .JPG the first time I'm asked if I'd like to stay with Irfanview or switch to the Windows 10 image viewer to display my pics. I chose to stay with my original choice and that would be fine except that I got queried for each different file type I opened (I double-click a .GIF and get the choice again--ditto for .PNG, .BMP and so on)!

I will say that using Windows 10 to go back to Windows 7 was quick and easy though (it took less that 20 minutes total). Now I'm glad I left that huge folder "C:\Windows.old" alone.

Yes very wise keeping the Windows.old folder. I am seeing how it goes with Windows 10 although already I have GG prompting me to "Do you want to save before reverting back to editor" or whatever the message is quite frequently so I don't think it will be long before I revert back to Windows 8/8.1. This is Windows x64 with 12GB. How C**p is that.

I'm waiting for the first patches and upgrades before deciding to upgrade my OS.

Windows is lately very focused on apps and everything related to the Microsoft Store, the first thing you installed is a window full of applications that do not use, and it's something I dislike.
The first thing I did when I bought my laptop with w8.0, was installed Shell classic windows, so I have W7 mode in the start menu, even I can set XP mode if I wish.

A 2015 Indy Making Contest competitor upgraded to Windows 10 and now, their system is not functioning properly causing them to drop out. RPG Maker apparently doesn't like Windows 10 much.

Yes, I had this happen a few times and wasn't sure what triggered it. It didn't seems to be fatal though, just annoying.

Exactly. I felt like I was getting spammed by my own OS.

A wise choice.

ugh I don't like W10, some software that I use (namely Deep Exploration) won't install/run even after using compatibility settings and admin mode etc. How poop.
I'm going back to W8 or W7.

Did you try turning off DEP? I've had to for many programs since XP. It's been hit or miss on every OS, and I haven't had to (yet) for anything on Win 10, but it's worth a try. (I only have about half my programs and assets installed so far) The only thing I haven't liked so far is the Edge browser. It needs a lot of work.

NOTE !!

I decided to reinstall fresh today using the downloadable ISO..
I skipped entering my key until W10 was fully installed ...

The key was not recognised when I did try which really confused me ..

I then noticed that my W10 had already been activated .. I then looked further into it to find it was a new key..

CONCLUSION !!

Once you have originally updated you can install W10 fresh but do not bother trying to enter your old key as it seems it will not
work ..It seems to be auto activated once you go online with a new key by Microsoft ...

There are tools like SIW that can show you your new key to enable you to keep a copy.

I used ProdKey application to get the correct product key for Windows 10 prior to doing a fresh install. So once Windows 10 is activated run the prodkey script and write the key down.
ProdKey can be found here: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html

I don't like W10 at the moment some of my old software doesn't install correctly or at all. Now gone back 2 steps and running Win7 x64, much better.

I have had the update of W10 on my machine now for about a week and have found no problems. It is so much better than W8.1. I will be reloading to a fresh install soon from the ISO, it is good to hear that it does not need any further activation though, that makes life easier. Thanks synchromesh.

It's so good that I have started intsalling it on all the other machines in my house.

Windows10 generates a key when you do your upgrade, using a 7 or 8 key will not work, after the upgrade you can do a fresh install and skip the enter key section as once installed windows remembers your computer and auto assigns the key from your upgrade.

NOTE VERY IMPORTANT: You must do the upgrade before a clean install in order to get your win 10 key, this key is available under control panel/system and requires no extra program to read it so you can still write it down for future reference

I can see a windows ID number but not a product key ... That is a first if MS allow you to see your serial number ....
Am I missing something ?
