@Ertlov
actually all Melee Weapons work, since the latest Official release i think and not just that, even blocking is working but sadly only
limited (seems to be bugged).

Anyways for example EAI Melee Weapons from the classic Store, all work. (Teste

J0linar beat me to it ! The fantasy pack sort of works as well with a bit tinkering but I think the weapon slots are hardcoded at the moment.

@science boy - You're one that got me into Game of Thrones ! Have you read the books? The TV series is really good but the books are brilliant.

Very nice looking models!

Is this modular castle going to be featured in the TGC store?

Cheers

I agree e30 you are no longer padawan but a jedi master. You are definitely pro. I sat back tonight and thought what can I say that is worthy yet new. Sadly castle king was it. No emoticon of a crown so a hammer to symbolise the construction of great work.

Nope sorry, I made a decision a while back to either make assets for the store or for my game, the game won ! I don't have time to do both. It also makes your game unique having your own models.

Teabone wrote: " I'm very impressed with these models. Surprised how far you've come along and these are already looking pro."

Thanks Teabone, I'm not sure about pro ! I've still got a lot to learn about texturing and other types of modeling. It's taken just over a year to get this far but I do feel I'm staring to progress, which is not bad considering I couldn't model to save my life when I started, so people get modeling, you can do it !

Thanks mate, all these comments coming from so many talented people definitely give my self-esteem a boost ! I know what you mean about finding something to say, I have trouble with your thread as your work is always so so good.

If anyone has any C&C about my castle feel free to post away good or bad (e.g. looks to new or to square or this would improve it etc.. )

If you would like some honest C&C; here we go......

It depends on what age you were going for with the castle, but, the texture looks far too clean. Even a brand new castle would be slightly dirty as the builders can only clean stone so much. Adding a grime overlay on the texture would definitely do wonders. Adding some foliage to the extreme corners would look awesome.

The normal map looks a little strong and coming close to entering the Uncanny Valley. Maybe try toning that down a little.

All of the bricks that make up the walls are a little too perfect. If you had the occasional brick just jutting out or indented, I think it would add a little more realism.

To be honest made, I am nit picking! These are truly awesome models and I am super impressed by how far you have come in such a little time! Keep up the awesome work mate!

Just take a look at the first images at the beginning of this thread and compare them to the last images! The growth in skill is phenomenal!

Cheers

Jay.

I think GoldRock would look amazing in the cartoon world ...
Can you post some pics of it in cartoon world...please..

I'm thinking of the grand kids and also lots on here will have small children
I think cartoon world will prove very popular.. and you could make
some amazing things for it... ( as time fillers when you are looking for inspiration).
There is a niche market there waiting ... I hear Jay is going to jump in..

Really beautiful work. I admire your dedication to your project and it really reflects in the quality of media you produce. When you plan your models, do you outline the different pieces and sections you plan on creating? I am assuming all of your structures are built in a sort of Kit formation, is that right? Do you prefer low resolution textures and a lot of tiling? or high resolution sheets and slightly less reliance on tiling. Genuine question.

The texture work is very clean, may I suggest adding a bit of grunge and dirt to appear more worn and aged, I do like things dirty but that's just my style of modeling. I haven't delved into the fantasy genre yet however I do have a castle work I have started.

I'm excited to see the update. Great stuff :-]

Thanks Teamhalo, My dedication has wavered at times as I keep remaking my models as a lot of my early models were nowhere near good enough, even my Shadowcast castle is going to get a revamp.

I never used to plan my models but I soon found out this was a bad decision and ended up remaking models because I hadn't thought about it before staring, now I plan everything, I have a book that write down model, level and game ideas in. Making my models in a kit just makes it easier to model and once in GG the combinations are endless. I can then retexture the parts and reuse them.

The texture on something like my castle are tiled and fairly low res as you can see. I use both methods mentioned above for my models but texturing is still not one of my strong points, I still have a lot to learn on this subject.

I noticed that you use 4k textures and your models are fantastic ! Do you find this cause any performance hit in GG?

With yours and Jay's advice I redid the texture last night. I still feel it needs work but it's getting there. Anymore advice is gratefully received.

I can't wait to see the castle you're working on !

Looking loads better mate!

Now. The next step is to think about your models in a different way. You need to start thinking real world textures. What I mean by this is,

You have a great base texture. Look at the model (and reference material) which parts would be cleanest? Which parts would be the most dirty and which parts would be untouched and potentially have moss or mould growing? Take a look at the different sections of the model, for example, the walkways would see a lot of action, people would be running up and down the, all the time, so, they could possibly be nicely worn and free from moss etc. The outsides of the walls would obviously see no action (with the exception of the occasional arrow), so, they would be more dirty. The very bottom of the castle, where the castle walls meet the ground, would see no action at all and would has moss and potentially plants growing up them.

This would set the second layer of the texture. Then you can move onto the finer details such as chips missing from the brickwork etc.

I hope this helps in some way.

Cheers

Jay.

I've been messing about with the underground idea again. I'm now thinking about turning it in to a MP map.

I did a quick MP test last night and it ran really well, so watch this space.

I need to add some track clamps.

Did you import it as one model?

I have said it before and I will say it again, that tunnel looks great. I would love to test a MP game in there. Although I can imagine, I would be shot more than most, as I would be looking at the models rather than looking for people.

Cheers

Jay.

Thanks Jay

For the test I imported it as one model which was the above scene copied 4 times to make it in to a loop so we could run around it. The imported model was about 8000 polys which I didn't think was that bad.

When I build the map properly it will be built in sections.

Thanks Gtox, Yeah you're spot on, I'm getting a lot of inspiration from Riverwood at the moment but I'm definitely going to put my own spin on it as you will see very soon.

that as shamed my work completely, i will have to do what the officer on the new in development death star says to lord vader when he hears the emperor is coming, "we will double our efforts"

amazing work and my wheels need updating after your supreme wheel and co. i cant by the way access online via my new s5 galaxy to comment, for some reason after all my efforts will not accept the passwords etc from my phone, so you have to wait near a week so i can type a comment.

amazing work mr E

ps i was thinking the same but then thought of the work it may involve to get it right and i thjought i would wait a few years till particles etc were added

Some seriously great stuff in here. I am excited to see the wheel animated, Do you use an alpha one the thatched roof texture? It looks really good. Did you develop this media in a modular kit style or do you just construct pieces in the 3D editor and export complete models? Seriously looks straight from skyrim the quality is top notch. I am curious, I am assuming you use atlas texturing as apposed to multi textures- how large do you paint your textures? 2048 or do you go 4096?

Good stuff all around.
