Hello! Monkey Frog here! I've got a brand new YouTube channel you can find here:

https://youtu.be/yHmY-JwXzps

The plan is to feature GameGuru MAX tutorials; tips-and-ticks; cover the good, the bad, and the ugly; and show that it's possible to create awesome looking levels inside GameGuru MAX. All while having a bit of fun!

Right now there's only the intro video, but I plan to put up content weekly. I hope to have another video this week, just in time for MAX's Early Access release. So, why not head on over and check it out?[video=youtube]

Thanks, everyone! Glad you like the little intro! The actual content will certainly have talking to explain the content (tutorials, tips, etc.). Feel free to offer suggestions for content you'd like to see covered.

Is the question about albedo/color and normal maps themselves? Or about the programs for creating them? If it's about texture/material creation programs, I plan to cover that on my channel in a fair amount of detail.

Awesome stuff, @thatandplaygames! I'll add them to the list!

@all:

Monkey Frog will have a new tutorial up tomorrow! It's super basic and most of you already know it - how to get to the level editor in MAX! This one is aimed at the brand-new MAX user (since MAX goes on sale tomorrow). It's easy now, but I know how frustrating it was for me the first time I wanted to just get in there, get to the editor, and just start editing! Once I got to the Terrain Generator page, I was like, "What do I do now?!?" It's a bit better now than it was ... even so ...

The plan is to do basic tutorials followed by advanced tutorials. So, I have a more advanced tutorial planned for next week. If you don't mind, why not hop on over to the Monkey Frog YouTube channel and subscribe? This frog would appreciate it!

Monkey Frog's latest very super BASIC tutorial is up on YouTube! You can watch it here:

https://youtu.be/d7MDJ1pLq70

If you've used MAX for awhile, you definitely know everything I'm going to cover. This one's for absolute beginners as it covers simply getting to the actual level editor the first time. I know that frustrated me the first time I opened MAX and just wanted to get busy making something.

I plan to do a basic tutorial followed by an advanced tutorial. I reveal at the end of this one what next weeks tutorial will be.

Yes, I love Blender, I have done some vidoes in the past and never had many issues with importing stuff from blender into GG classic and scaling was always ok. Not tried importing from Blender to MAx though, maybe will try at some point, not a big priority for me at the moment though.

The old Blender prior to 2.8 worked perfectly for GameGuru classic because its default was Blender units instead of measurements, and when .X exported with Blender units the scale was identical to GameGuru Classics scale. But now that Blender no longer supports .X, and with a few changes because of GameGuru Max, it's a little more tricky to get the scale the same. I'd only recently worked it out myself, so i'm glad A_A has put out a video for the community, i had a nightmare trying to work it out.

sounds a nightmare, many thanks A_A for putting video(s) out. it will save a headache when coming to do blender -> GG MAX. I need to update my Blender version, I do like the older versions, dare I upgrade?

I must admit I am impressed with GG MAX so far, even my little boy went "Wowwww".

There's actually a few solutions that work. The one I present in the video is only one of them. I have one that is based off an 8x8 grid that follows the old-school way of working when everything was based on a power of two, even the grid systems. But I decided not to use that one for the video. The sci-fi level you see repeatedly in my videos (from my initial tests with MAX) was built on another. It works fine, too, but I like the one in the video better for a variety of reasons. One being it's simple to set up and use. And dividing down by two is really easy when you start with 32 (16, 8, 4 ...). So, reducing your snapping values, once in MAX, to get a more precise snap or for smaller pieces is easy.

Love the content!

Just a minor nitpick from my side; The intro could be shorter and played only once. A while ago me and a few friends were talking about user attention span and came to the conclusion that an intro longer then 10 seconds distracts too much.

After that, the next tutorial should be Collision Types. Then I'm thinking of doing a basic tutorial on importing models with textures/materials (following the pattern of doing a basic, then more advanced, then basic tutorial).

Really great stuff! I thought of a few more ideas for ya:

1) Radar - Max has a radar scripts folder, I haven't played with it yet.

2) Image, text, sound and video zones

3) Objects to collect - Almost like the GG Classic cartoon game where you have to collect x amount of objects to go to the next level or win the game.

Thanks!

My pleasure, GraPhix! I hope it's helpful to people! These are (hopefully) building blocks. If people can get these simple materials into MAX in one go, then they can move on to using more complex ideas, like Texture Atlases.

Hello Everyone!

The next Monkey Frog video is in the works! The topic is - A PBR Primer - PBR Materials in MAX!

This will be a very basic introduction to each of the PBR channels that MAX uses, explaining what they are and how they are used to, hopefully, dispel the confusion that can surround them, especially if you are new to PBR materials.

This week is a bit of an unknown, though. I'll try to get the video up late tomorrow, but I can't guarantee it. I got selected for jury duty and am on call. I have to check in every evening to see if I have to go in for jury selection the next day or not. If, for example, I find out tonight I have to be there tomorrow, this will eat up my entire day and the video won't get done. This process could go on for the entire month or it could end soon. It's a total unknown at this point. Sigh. So, I'll do the best I can to get the video up when I can.
