@3com-the "NO TERRAIN" fpm is not 100%, but it might help someone for a quick start. working on a 2nd version of this fpm as I have noticed issues. All experimentation at the moment now I'm getting into MAX a bit more.

the first version works ok for me, I'm going to try the other ones, back when done.
Well done BOTR, I only found a spiky mountain.
Now we can do the Waterworld game.

There something happens with the last version compare with the first one.
In the first one, I can go down the water and I have the terrain underwater; with the last one, I just have some sort of sky in the background, something such as when zooming a lot till you lost the map. I can post 2 pics if this may help.

@3com- I'll make an update similar to the first version without the spike. Will test a bit more before I post again. Thanks for trying it though

Why?
I was very happy when found that spike, can imagine a Waterworld in the real-life, like Kevin, I enjoy that spike.

Hello Bored of the Rings,

Thank you for having the idea to create a project "without terrain".
That's a feature I am interested in.
I tested your first and third versions and as mentioned by 3Com, I can see the presence of a terrain under the water.

Personally, when I import a custom-made terrain, I push up the water level above the default terrain (position Y = 600) and in this way I can move in the water to climb on the imported terrain.

As you know, painting the built in terrain in GG Max editor consumes tons of megabytes and for the whole terrain (200x200 square meters), when you save your .fpm project, its total size could easily exceed 10 Gbytes only for that painted terrain.

When I read the title of your thread, I thought that you provided some project where the default terrain of GG Max editor was no more there.

I examined the content of your .fpm files to understand your workflow, but it is not clear in my mind.
Please could you explain what you mean by "without terrain" ?

Yes, I hold my hands up , no terrain is misleading. I am working on removing the terrain, when I first ran my test program and the terrain was no longer there, I had made a premature assumption that the terrain had gone. It was only when I went into test mode that I realised it's still there. annoying. Anyway, am hoping to get rid of it, failing that, I can move it anywhere out of the way, which is not what I had in mind.
Tis a WIP at the moment.

@ BOTR
Password?

EDIT: Sorry mate, was thinking of another different thing. LOL
For those that won't know, just change the file extension from .rar to .fpm, and you are done.

This works better than early ones, it is a bit tricky to keep underwater. Great work BOTR, thanks for sharing.

thanks 3Com.

I always thought that there was going to be the ability to turn off the terrain, but maybe that got changed or I misunderstood.
Can't wait to see how the terrain in MAX pans out.

Even HideTerrain()/HideWater() LUA command doesn't work.

Terrain still has a way to go before it’s ready I think

@Dave-It sure does. Once the terrain side is ready, I can continue with my heightmap importer/editor for Max, which will be a c+ app and not DBPro. DBPro is great for quickly knocking up ideas together before doing anything in the VS. The app will be totally written from scratch in c+. Of course, if TGC beat me to it, then I won't need to write one (no pressure TGC )

Last version "ALL_WATER.fpm" added to 1st post for anyone wanting to try it. Of course you don't have to use it all, it was a bit of fun for me at the end of the day.
