Hi Lee,

Will the VR game/mode work with Oculus Rift headsets and touch controllers, as this setup is very popular the same goes with HTC vive?

Thanks

I've not looked into this much as I don't have a VR headset and controllers at this time. However, apparently there are ways to get the Oculus headsets/controllers to work under Windows Mixed Reality. A quick Google search makes it seem that it doesn't work "out of the box", but that you can get it to work.

Interesting stuff - you have been busy Lee

Can't say I like the idea of teleporting to a spot so you can move around - I guess that is industry standard tho. Not my idea of fun, be like trying to get around in Google maps. I guess that saves me paying out for a vr set though.

it's because moving in VR causes motion sickness until you get used to it - some people are more prone than others (for myself i couldn't play games with any "fake" player movement at all for quite some time, even games with a small amount of movement would make me feel sick but VR is still an amazing experience (beat saber is still my favourite game and that has no fake movement at all) and now that i am more used to it i can play a limited amount of VR games with movement - i still won't play games for a long time with non-teleport movement but as long as it's smooth and there's no unexpected movement it's ok (i can play pistol whip for example because while you are moving it is on-rails type game and so the movement is very smooth)
regardless teleport or smooth motion or whatever other type of movement a game implements is nearly always toggle-able so if you don't like it you simply don't use it and use the other

Ah, cool
I was thinking that maybe teleport was the only way to move.

Wouldn't have any idea where to start or what to buy as far as VR sets - only thing I can work out is they are expensive. Sounds like a whole new world.

Not ashamed to admit I vomitted several times during testing of the RIFT version of Into the Dark back then. I had only the DK1 with all its quirks, but it was still a lot of fun.

Your memory is worse than mine He runs about normally for most the vid, only teleport's to show it is also available

Not sure about the fps though, Lee explains why, but I see plenty of VR games on youtube and no-one seems to have frame rate issues there. Too early to be overly worried though.

From my experience you need to record the headset feed directly to not lag, if you record the pc monitor it will likely lag your headset unless you're running some software that can record for no slowdown and doesn't restrict the fps (a lot do to ensure the recording is smooth regardless of VR or normal).
Lee's solution to reduce the monitor is actually an interesting approach and nice to know the option is there to reduce the fps (unlike GG which is stuck to your monitor refresh rate).

I'd like it to succeed, too. I've really wanted someone, somewhere, to really create an actually EASY to use 3D game creation system. GameGuru comes close. If they would only add some features, like an easy to build GUI system, some nice drag-n-drop elements for things like first person camera, 3rd person camera, etc., and a few other elements, this would be the system, in my opinion.

Oh, and TGC should really work on some improvements for the main 3D view port of the editor. I'd really like to see some decent use-adjusted snapping and a grid like we have in every other 3D app, be it 3D modeling software or a game engine editor. Add to this object snapping, when you can choose to snap entities to edges, vertices, bounding boxes, etc., and then it would be so much easier to throw together levels that aren't just terrains.

Honestly some of the biggest draw-backs for GG would be the lack of
a menu creator helper-- though someone has made this for the community
(is it free?) Sounds are another manual insertion technique that would be
so easy to add by properties of the object-- though I could see the flexibility
being required filled by scripting covering it better. Not afraid to script- but
there's those suggestions. Menu screens is a biggy. The widget can get
wonky... and there needs to be a "Hide Floors" button in the GUI so that when
you are inside a large building and want to slide a several group of objects
to another spot (without trying to separately select them all) -- you can hide
the floor and lasso them all (some people call it rubber-band the group?!)

At GubbyBlips. I made a menu system years ago, but not sure if it still works ok in new GG updates. It was free and should be on the forums somewhere. Basic but added video support

You can hide floors and such using the tab key and then using the mouse wheel to scroll up and down. it can be a bit of a pain with multi story levels but generally is a good way to hide floors above where you want to select from or work

Once Graphix is able to access his server again he will be able to continue his Asset Manager that has an awesome Menu creator built in along with all the other tools we have been asking for
Well worth getting as it will work for Max as well ..

I have my Source code and i am working on AM 1.4 i tried to be clever and add 4k resolution to menu screens it broke my software
so basically i scrapped that part of the code and have re written it to unfortunately the max screen resolution of Classic 1920x1200

i am not a professional coder i just know what i need from AM to make life easier hence why a built it in VB.NET i do not know C++ and because i am working through books and research it as taken me longer than i had hoped please bear with me i will get 1.4 out as soon as possible t is very rough but works menus can be made in seconds rather than hours
Welcome to the real world!

@GraPhix: I think your AM is brilliant. And you are doing the right thing by researching stuff. I still have to do research on aspects I have not a clue about and I have been programming for almost 40 years and as a Scientist (Data/Statistical) for 27 years, I still don't have all the answers. Can't wait to try out/buy AM 1.4.
