I've built a standalone game and created an installer for it, however, on every computer I've (except mine) it doesn't run. I've tried multiple computers, installing Visual C++ and any DirectX updates. Multiple configuration files are missing, I believe avcodec-57.dll and others?
I've also tried hunting them down and putting them in the installer to no avail.
Edit: fixed a mistake, and missing avcodec-57l.dll shouldn't be a problem, as it's included in the installer? Also, I'm curious about the Steam API files, as I have no intention (as of right now) to publish my game(s) to Steam...

What you can do is download process explorer https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer and then run the standalone that does run , then run the process explorer. the bottom panel shows which dlls are required to run your app (see attached pic). Make sure you select your EXE that is running in the top panel.

Talking about dll's, tried to run a couple of old DB games of mine I found out yesterday from 2000. Missing dll's Direct X8 as well I think from memory, so not sure even finding and copying it over would fix it. Pity, as I was curious how they would run now, probably about 20 times too fast lol. Back then it was a job getting them to run at speed

I've lost most the stuff I've done over the years so was quite pleased the old disk now reads on my CD Drive, thought it had degraded but seems the writer was just rubbish at reading disks before

Strange though about the above issue. I thought all that was done with since the DX11 update, no extra runtimes needed with GG games. Obviously not in this case.
Edit - Got one to work, although it drops from 60 to 10 fps as soon as the game starts So it's way slower now ah well.

SPECS: Ryzen 1700 CPU. Nvidia 970GTX. 16 Gig Memory. Win 10.

I will try the Process Explorer program and see if that works.

All these files should be in the same folder as your game.exe:

If they are all there and you still get a missing .dll error , then its properly the shortcut you create that do not set the "working path" to the folder where the game.exe is installed.

If all of this fails for you , post a download link to your installer here , and we can give it a try and see what the problem is

Okay, I’ll do that, make sure all of the files are there. I’m currently in the process of updating it (to fix some things and make it more stable), so I’ll link the installer on Friday, if I don’t procrastinate again

Thanks for everyone’s help so far! Really appreciate you guys.

I did it, and a day earlier
GameJolt page for it is here, because it won't let me upload directly for whatever reason (most likely the file size is too large): https://officialnerfrhett.gamejolt.io/virtualfiringrange/

Continue if you want:
Feel free to throw some criticisms my way or something if you'd like. I know that the weapons don't have PBR textures (because they're old MP6 weapons for FPSC), and the sound design isn't the greatest, but I'll work on that in the sequel. However, keep in mind that this is my first game made with GG Classic, and I (probably) have some good stuff in store for the future

I also realize my signature is too big, I'll change it tomorrow.

It also seems that the desktop shortcut isn't working... Just launch it from the install path (usually C:\Program Files(x86)\Nerf Rhett Games\Virtual Firing Range\Files\Virtual Firing Range.exe)
EDIT: Wow okay, apparently the game wasn't even included... thanks InstallForge.
