Hello -

I have the Direct X 11 error coming up every time I try to run my game on a Win 10 machine; it was compiled with an earlier version of Windows and built/ran fine there

** Have seen the various scattered threads and semi-fixes here and elsewhere for this issue already, tried them, no luck so far **

Tried re-downloading Game Guru onto my Win 10 machine in order to try to reopen the game and compile it from here, same thing happened (runtime error). Tried downloading the Windows platform updater, etc all the other stuff. Nada.

=> Barring any fixes: can someone assist me by taking my game and recompiling it on a known working Win 10 system? I can send you some coffee/beer money if you can, I'm totally stumped. I just want the game to be playable on my friend's updated machines. Currently, it seems like all the time and effort is wasted

Question: is the new upcoming Game Guru going to have this issue as well?

Thanks, stumped, disappointed, burnt out....

This can be a number of things. Are you up-to-date with windows updates. What c++redistributables have you got installed. Are your drivers up to date. Does your card support directx 11, I'm assuming it does. Have you tried a steam files integrity check. Have you tried uninstalling dotnet and redistributables and reinstalling. Redistribs can be located under gameguru install area. Do you see where I'm going with this?

Is your Windows 10 machine even DX11 compatible ?

Click Start->Run / Windows 10 type run in bottom left search bar and hit return

• Type in "Dxdiag" (without quotes)
• Press Enter

Click the Display tab
---------------------
• Look in the upper right
• For Windows 7 look for "DDI Version"
• For Windows 8/10 look for "Feature Levels"
If you do not see "11" in the "DDI Version or "Feature Levels" line, your video card DOES NOT support DX11

I will check on all this; anecdotally, though, I've never had this error with any other game or game builder, simulator, etc.

And how is it that I can build it in Win 7 and run it in Win 7, but then can't open the game to edit or play the standalone in Win 10?

Seems obtuse that the earlier version of Windows would be 'more robust'

I did the Direct X analysis and it says Direct3D DDI: 11.1
but Feature Levels does not have 11 listed...

Separately: When I do a search for Direct X 11 error, one of the first results that comes up, and many of the others refers to the Game Guru issue.

In other words: is this a 'Game Guru thing'? Too bad if it is - is/was a cool platform

Game Guru Needs following runtimes to work:
DirectX (June 2010)
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010
Microsoft Visual C++ 2012
Microsoft Visual C++ 2015

If you install these it should run. If you can not install one of these runtimes, you can not run GG or any standalone, because of your hardware. Steam does this automatically, but a pc without steam and GG needs to install these.

Nothing to do with that, more likely a game installed DX11 on your win 7 system at some point. Although I did think DX11 was built into Win 10 these days, even DX12 is I think. It's rare these days you ever see a mention of DX when installing games. Used to be part and parcel of most installations.

It would be nice MS porting X file format thru DX11/DX12, rather than deprecate it.

@ Gluteus
All those files are within "_CommonRedist" folder.

Yes they are but on windows 7 Upgrade to 10 they missed a lot out which normally installing this platform update sorts.
