First of all, I'm a new user around here, only 30h or so into the engine. I'm liking it so far, easy to use (sometimes) and the community behind it is one of the best I've ever seen. Respectful and eager to help. But my issues are not with the community or the engine itself, it is with the lack of information about this product and its future.

Now, I understand the non disclosure terms and things alike, but let's face it, how many products/games survived by not telling the users about upcoming features and fixes? I'm not talking about going into technical details and all that, but just a little heads up on what is being worked on and if its being worked on..

By scrolling through the forums I found some posts about missing features, bugs, cancelled projects and such. Now, I don't think anybody expects a AAA engine with all the latest features, but to know that some features are being worked on would ease the minds around here. The last thing you want is to fail the very people who are working with and trying to improve the product by not communicating with them.

I apologise in advance if I came out as rude, but I've seen my fair share of products being forgotten or put aside because there was no communication. I'd hate to see it happen here, because this engine does have potential, and a great community to back it up.

What are your thoughts?

I’m afraid it’s a old argument of ours ,the communication is rubbish I’m sorry to say
(Biggest communication is always what’s on sale . )

If it wasn't for some members posting around here and keeping the forums active, it would be safe for a new user to assume that this was nothing more than a cash grab. Hate to say it, but it's the truth.

If at least they could recognize that being more open with us could lead to a more active community and therefore attract more people...

Yeah, sad to say this be an old argument - valid to say the least - but none-the-less old and worn out.
Always plenty about whats on sale, but near zilch on what the current road-map is - it is of course possible that they don't even have one of them

They probably won't even see this thread, but even if it was in Product Chat where they may see it - the response would be just the same as if they never saw it at all.

Tis TGC's biggest flaw - but one they seam reluctant to address....

But you can of course make a great HUD for your game

Sighs...

Hey, it's almost Christmas, so maybe they will give us something? Would make for a very nice gift.

Also, I dont know wether it's patience or madness that you guys have dealt with this silence for years.

More like addiction

GG has by far the nicest work flow, and the best community behind it.
Hopefully when the NDA fiasco is done with, the resulting product\improvements will be worth the years of waiting\frustration.

Meanwhile we plod on, waiting, hoping.....

Historically they tend to go even more quiet at this time of year, we usually stop hearing from them at the ned of november and don't hear anything until the end of February at the earliest. So don't hold your breath on that.

Having tried both UE4 and Unity, I must agree with you.

Hope is truly the last thing to die huh? In that case, I hope that you are correct

And here I was thinking that we could at least get updates at the end of the year, this is just sad. I suppose I can find comfort with the community for now, you guys are the best

On the plus side, things are still being ticked of the bugs list over on GitHub....

So maybe we get a release\update before the year is out....

Bugfixes are better than nothing! I have encountered a few in my little time with this engine, so I'd gladly take anything.

Forum is a bit of a cesspool of complaints mainly because of the lack of communication and no real changelogs / news. Something we've talked about for more than 5 years now. So there is nothing that comes out of that debate.

Around the end of January things will get heated with multiple threads asking if gg is dead, it will get worse through February and finally lee will drop a big news article on us promise to keep us informed more often, which he will do for a couple of months, then it will go back to only communicating big updates until November when the cycle begins again

Yeah, can't for the life of me understand the silence thing....

Quote: "which he will do for a couple of months"

More like a couple weeks if we are lucky

Quote: "lack of communication and no real changelogs / news"

well you do of course have to have changes being made so you have news to tell

Maybe NDA really means
Not
Doing
Anything
joking.......

Preben was working on shadows\lighting, and we already saw a leak of a new GG UI, hopefully there is much in store in the next release, but when we will see it is anyone's guess.

Lol, lets hope for something soon - caution this is not a cue to hold your breath

NDA is most likely a smoke screen. A new character creator is being worked on

Yeah, you could be right there.
Would be a shame tho, the engine is still broken - we don't need more diversions from core issues....

We have had couple good updates this year, but given the time frame, a couple tis just a little bit pathetic....
Time will tell I guess...

Just made sure the chimney is not blocked - lol

I seem to remember a forum thread a while back that went on at length about what we wanted and when we want it, and it was clearly decided that although we wanted character creator worked on there were far more important things to do, it was such a landslide that at the end of it Lee changed his question to "should i remove it because it's incomplete, or leave it as it is with a warning?".

So what we have here is another example of Lee asking the community what it wants, making a decision based on our feedback, and then back peddling and doing the opposite. Just another day in the life of GameGuru.

Oh wow, kinda makes sense that some people are turning to other engines for now. At first I thought that it was because GG couldn't pull off great visuals, but it seems its mostly due to how it is being developed.

Maybe ((Maybe!)) the new Character Creator will become a DLC, that is actually
pretty useful, and can raise some funds to help fund further progress --
(still not sure where GG DLC funds go...) anyhow, I would be fine with it being
a DLC for ~ 20£ ($27) or whatever. Maybe if those models could be modified
for the big AAA engines, that version should go for 50£ ($65)
I think dynamic lights should not be far behind after that if CC is profitable.
What else do people want? I want a Stand- Alone that is perfectly reliable!
Copy+paste, 64 bit Night and Day, plus map size selection, more script additions
for better physics, etc...

You can kind of do that already using entities, there's a water fx (can't remember which one it is) you can add to any entity and it turns it into water, so you just make a couple of single plane entities using that shader and put them wherever you like. You can't have swimming etc. but it's fine for adding small streams and pools etc.

Yeah, that is correct, but last time I tried it there was no reflections like there is with the water plane.
So sorta looks off to me.

Also, you would need to change the direction of flow as you can with the default water plane now, so don't know if is possible.
