Good question Teabone ,
I too have been checking almost every day and didn't seem to notice
any big or small items being checked off of that to-do list in quite a while.
Seems instead that more are being added to the needs fixin list still.

Oh well , daddy always said " hope springs eternal. ."
BUT...
Momma always said..." don't hold your breath waiting. .."

So I guess. ...." we'll see "

Lee is an excellent programmer and able to create a game engine (he had even written his own programming language--DBPro-- and then wrote another bit of code to create FPSC), but, he has no mind for business and because there is no person who is above him in his business hierarchy; then, he is left by himself to manage the direction he should take. When I came back to TGC to see what is happening, I was actually concerned that he relied on the consumer to make programming decisions. Not a good decision. Many may disagree but that is a bad business decision to make. Taking polls can be good but not voting on what feature should be added next. He did get rid of the voting board but then, instead of concentrating on finishing what he already starting and to fix the bugs he already accumulated he went off on his own tangent he wanted to do next--that thing with goggles. Right now it does seem to be RIP GG.

Pretty Sure TGC does very well as they have lots of products on the go but as it stands GameGuru is Lee's Baby.
This unfortunately means in order to survive in this day and age one has to prioritise with what brings in the most income and the future of the company as a whole so I guess ( having run a business myself ) Lee is making good business decisions for the company … But not so good for us at times However how the company stays healthy as a whole though also effects the development of GameGuru at the end of the day.

That`s true, and I sincerely hope TGC is doing alright. However, I don`t think that necessarily disproves Flatlanders statement. Many TGC products could have done much better with proper expectation management from the first PR beat to decent road-maps communication.
Not even talking about project management processes and tools applied...

I still visit the forums have been around for a while,
i just started learning other engines, perhaps return another time to see how
things develop, but input is dead forums are dead, multiplayer is not the answer
here, just an easy option to dangle the carrot, bug fixes and memory again,
cant see GG being able to get attention needed before Christmas, with AGK-S
then probably some fixes, may appear. but do hope that some day GG will
be worth the wait, for some of the dedicated members here, they deserve it
for all the hard work and time put in keeping a product alive.

We had a thread not so long back where I made my view of how GG was dumped for agk-s pretty obvious - which understandably is now locked.

I was gonna stick with it, but with the now revealed development of multiplayer (lol) I instead went off and made the rip_gg model in the above pic and decided to move to Unity.

GG is following the path of its predecessors - sad, but obvious to me.

I agree with the comments made above about it feeling like GG has been put on the backburner in favour of AGK Studio. Is Game Guru dead? No, a quick glance at GitHub will show that work is continuing around multiplayer and VR, albeit at a slow pace than we would like. A recent post by Lee also highlighted that an experienced bug-fixer will be brought on board to begin sifting through the long list of bugs. Judging by past form, this will most likely be a recruit from the forums, meaning they will be a hobbyist and, even if they are being paid, will only be able to sacrifice a small percentage of their time. So the pace on the bug fixes I expect to be slow also.

This is all having a much greater knock-on effect; it's killing the forums and this community. I used to check these boards two or three times to a day to keep up with the latest comments, WIPs, modelling threads, scripts etc. Now I could scan through for 10 minutes twice a week and see everything worth seeing. Forum stalwarts are drifting away in their droves to focus on other better-developed engines, or other projects entirely. Maybe they still lurk from time to time, post occassionally, but mostly they are quiet...or gone!

Working with Game Guru is like being in an abusive relationship. It has its faults, hits you from time to time, makes you angry, exasperated, frustrated, leaves you unfulfilled. But then we get a sniff of an update, or someone posts one half decent update in a WIP thread and you think "ok maybe it won't be so bad this time" or "it can change, it can get better". But judging by the lack of activity on the forums of late, more and more people are waking up to the likelihood that things will never change, and that Game Guru will never be what we all want it to be. We've all just invested too much time into it to admit it. It's sad really.

Yeah, nah, the horse is dead, and if not already, should the community die, GG is as good as dead anyway.

Perhaps the multiplayer work is the eventual finale to the engine.

I guess it all comes down to the fact that more can be done in AGK (classic/studio) which apparently was originally programmed by Lee and now Paul/Preben are the main developers. I don't know if GG is a dead horse, maybe, maybe not. I'm just enjoying playing around with the source code and making updates here and there for myself at the moment. The most amazing things I've seen from GG so far is Cybernescence Cogwheel Chronicles and Synchromesh's Protascope and Graphix/Bods/Pyrate Myke plus others amazing art work. these guys are highly skilled. Also amazing LUA work from both SmallG and Amenmoses. Tons could be done with this engine but it's having the time and inclination sometimes.

Tried getting on the discord forum's but can't post there (can't verify my email) so no point.

Moving bugs and discussion to third party sources was another couple nails in the coffin I think.

The hundreds of thousands of people that use discord daily don't seem to have that issue. It's got to be something simple causing the issue for you, please don't give up, it's well worth it.

It's even getting to the point where discord is so popular that games companies are integrating discord chat into their online games instead of having dedicated chat servers.

@Belidos, yeah I realise that, but since I already have a previous account, the system just tells Reliquia that that email address is taken

I did mess around trying to sort it for a bit, but given the state of affairs with GG it's not worth fluffing around trying to rectify the problem.

Can't you just request a password reset?

Go to the login page at https://discordapp.com/login enter your email address in the top box, then instead of entering your password in the password box under that box there is a link called "Forgot your password?", select that and It should send a link to your email to change the password, then you can use your old account.

Talking of good bundle deals at the moment.

Humble have a great e-book bundle right now, which is great for game developers, pay as much as you want starting from $1:

Get ebooks like Graphics Shaders, 3D Math Primer for Graphics and Game Development, The Uncanny Valley in Games and Animation, and Digital Character Development: Theory and Practice, Ray Tracing from the Ground Up, Real-Time Shadows, and lots more.

That's another point .. Discord is real time and is usually considered a forum killer or replacement.
That can also make the forums look pretty quiet ... Until a thread like this comes along

Its all done officially through TGC … They cant just do it on their own backs. Humble Bundle reaches millions of internet users rather than just the community. You will probably find there is a waiting list to get your stuff on Humble Bundle.

All the keys are sourced in bulk directly from the publishers at huge discounts. They get those discounts because a) they buy in bulk, and b) most of the bundle websites pass a good chunk of their profit on to charities, look at HumbleBundle all of their sales donate to charity, and the person purchasing gets to choose the a charity from the list and what % of the money goes to that charity .

The only reason why I support the multiplayer and VR work being done is that its the only visible mention of progress going on with GG that isn't a re-direct for GG-Loader / AGK. Any progress is good progress, just as any news is good news.

I would like to once again thank Bolt for being the community news reporter for the Game Guru community. This is something we needed a long time ago when many Showcase and WIP's were being overlooked.

Humble have a great e-book bundle right now, which is great for game developers, pay as much as you want starting from $1:

"

i picked up the full machine learning AI ebook bundle the other day... let's see if i ever get the bravery to read any of it
i don't know if any of it will be any use for the simple sort of projects i like to do but i've always been interested in how that stuff works

Quote: "but having fun messing with Unity atm"

it certainly is fun to use something that can do a lot, i love how much you can really edit stuff in unity without needing any extra tools - such as creating and editing multiple collision shapes for a single object, then being able to set them exactly as you want so some only detect certain collisions or some don't react at all but merely report the contact (i.e. a trigger) etc... this sort of thing makes coding complex stuff much nicer
though unity certainly still has it's issues and updating unity tends to cause way more issues than GG ever does - 1 thing Lee tends to really be good at doing is making sure 99% of projects still work even years later - i've had unity projects break from 1 month to the next.

Really nice so.
Ty 4 clarify guys.

I am seeing right now the series called the 100, and seeing once again what happens when the people do not receive hope, and especially when their leaders shine by their absence.
I think someone should come and explain what is happening, silence only brings speculation, and speculation never leads to anything good.
I like GG for its simplicity, I know that there are other engines much more efficient, but also much more complicated, and I do not have time to spend a month figuring out how to put a simple item on a map.
It occurs to me that the bounty would be a good comparison.

This is true. I've had projects fail to work probably cause i saved in a certain version in Unity and then got mixed up on versions which caused incompatibility. So now I stick to a 2017 version, which does limit my asset options, however, unfortunately.

For GG, the only major change was the DX9 to DX11. Apart from that very few updates break anything. Not at all really.

"Tried getting on the discord forum's but can't post there (can't verify my email)"

My problem was, that no matter what password I submitted,
it wouldn't accept it. It required 15 characters, capitals, symbols,
numbers, etc, etc... tried and tried, but it was never happy with it.
So couldn't do it. What's with these password requirements?!?!

A good business model for GG, and TGC would be a monthly update,
no matter how small. There's a lot of sticks in the fire so to speak
with GG, so it seems they would want to keep it glowing...
unless usurped by a bigger star.

Before Lee opened GG up to coders on Github, he always placed a weekly or sometimes even daily update about bug fixes and progress with what function he was busy with.
Now this is not needed because we can see his progress and that of other coders on the github network, that should tell us that GG is far from dead, let's not be so negative.
If this topic and other topics like this one show something, it is a lack of trust towards TGC because of the trail it has left behind with other previous products (my opinion)
But there is so much leeway, Cybernescence is a very skilled coder who is extracting potential which resides in this engine as he progresses with creating Cogwheel Chronicles.
It shows that this engine has so much more hidden potential than the current version, so much more possibilities which have yet to be extracted or added.
Maybe we should back GG by making one or more sample games as a community wich showcase the new implementations such as particles and swimming and driving, the pickupable scripts, physic libraries.
Last week a youtube was posted about a GG game, the first you'll hear is, 'a gameguru game or fpsc game'.
Not very positive, the nice and clean levels from protascope which Synchromesh has created are a good example of how this engine has evolved since the last few years.

@Belidos, thanks for the link

Quote: "If there truly is someone (Evan?) working away on some of those GitHub bugs/issues"

If there was you would have had updates. so obviously there is nothing happening there? To me GitHub is more of a bank where we can save all our bugs, rather than service station where we can get the GG tuned up

Quote: "very few updates break anything"

I haven't had any maps broken by an update yet, which really is amazing, and another reason why GG should be the recipient of any\all work at TGC. The only issue I have had is where builds that contained feature updates are often less polished than before, terrain and grass for example.

Quote: "Many TGC products could have done much better with proper expectation management from the first PR beat to decent road-maps communication."

This is easily GG's biggest failure - it has never had direction.

Quote: "It's unfair to just leave a whole community in the dark like this."

Indeed, I think it is actually quite rude myself, but doubt it will change.

ermmm, yep it's called AGK-S

Hi guys ,
According to Lee's github page ,his history shows only
1 commit to the agk-s in the last 6 months or so and very little to game guru or
any other projects.

See here.....

[/href]

On the agk-github page itself , only one activity.
Sooo , who knows what's up at all , only Lee , and so far...he ain't telling much.

Not sure how you're reading that. But the way i'm reading i see 1 commit in feb for gameguru and 1 for agk studio, 1 in april for gameguru and 2 in may for fpsc.

But i think that information is wrong, because if you look on the actual repository commits, there's tons on there under his name that aren't shown on his personal page, i think that's just commits on his personal branch there's probably other branches he works on.

Yup, that's what i thought, so there's actually three branches that Lee works on, Alpha, Master, and his personal branch.

I agree there's not a huge amount of visible work going on, but that doesn't mean he's not doing anything.

yes, it doesn't mean nothing is being done, granted Lee is most likely busy helping out with AGK Studio maybe on the Vulkan side of things (that's a guess), and once the AlphaSite branch is ready for merging to the master the update will change on Github.

@BotD -

ah yes Vulkan in AGK-S, now i have purchased AGK-S i was wondering what the Vulkan 3D engine is going to be like. The AGK-S promo video shows some 3D rendering, but and this is a big but........ will AGK-S at some stage feature a fully featured 3D map editor like GG.

Is the above video actually taken from a level made in AGK-S ??????

Maybe after the proper release of AGK-S we will see some movement in GG again, i hope.

In time I believe there will be a 3d editor. Unlucky for me that the Vulkan engine won't run on my rubbish graphics card. I had to upgrade my card to get GG to run. I don't really think I want to upgrade yet again just to get 1 piece of software to work, at least not in the short term. So my advice is if you really want Vulkan, ensure your card is compatible prior to purchasing AGKS, although it does fall back on openGL.

Or maybe he is in love. LOL
Watching the video above it is reasonable to think that he is focused on AGK Studio.

That's assuming its the GitHub Builds he's working on ?
For anything I wanted to keep quiet and wasn't able to talk about ( as Lee stated in his post ) then I certainly wouldn't be using those where everyone can see what's going on.
Just a thought ?

Judging by threads like this one, any concerns\speculation mean zilch to the top brass.

Only just bough AGK a few months back, now they are giving it away, no updates or any hint of any for GG (apart from the multiplayer carrot) - now why would I invest in AGK-S?

The silence is pathetic....
