thanks guys! wish i could get those dang normals to not be all blocky on the seat but alas, I think it still looks decent as a prop.

What are you using to make them?

Primary Desktop:

Ah ok, i have no idea how to do it in Max, but in blender it's simply a matter of highlighting the object then in the toolbox on the left of the screen clicking the smooth button to smooth all the vertices, then adding an edge split modifier to sharpen angles over 30 degrees.

yeah 3ds max has a smooth modifier too, i must be exporting it wrong
