We may need to add a standalone build block for all of the demo games in Game Guru.

TGC may need to better protect its properties and report that upload on Steam.

I understand that we all gotta make ends meet and can use some extra cash, I suppose that's the motivation behind this... but this is just low. Its downright a scam. I can only advise you all to take a few seconds to report it.

Also, whoever actually owns the rights to Asylum needs to fill out a DMCA for copyright infringement with Steam as soon as possible, only the owner of the original game can do this:

I have also reported the upload. Though for any real action to be taken I think TGC or/and the developer of Asylum needs to make a formal complaint.

Additionally, here are some articles written about the uploader and how damaging he is to the Game Guru community and the brand's reputation. I think TGC should respond immediately if they care about the future of Game Guru.

Purchasers of GameGuru are given a license to do whatever they want with the content other than selling assets as is. Demo's which come with the product can be used in any way the purchaser wishes although they should use these simply as example. Yes, it is heinous to simply release a demo as a game but not illegal and it doesn't matter who the original author is, they gave rights to TGC to distribute and TGC pass those onto purchasers, though it is expected that purchasers would use a demo to start off their own builds you will always find someone who takes the right to 'distribute' and abuses it.
Afraid you won't be seeing any official action taken to stop this particular release being being sold and even less likely you will see TGC putting any kind of 'block' on demo builds.

Hehe. I know and I considered that, rolfster. It still rubbed me wrong and I reported it anyway. Marked it as "offensive" ...I don't expect any action taken but I did what I could so there is that.

Cheers fellas!

Bummer, I've been following this thread while I was at work (on my breaks, of course, in case my employer reads these), and I was kinda disappointed by Rolfy's post. Is it possible to sue out of spite?

I thought it was stated parts of Demos could be used But had to be changed enough not to be recognisable as the actual demo or changed significantly at least ?

That statement was applied to clarify free texture releases, you can use the uv template to create your own but it shouldn't contain any recognizable part. You cant use parts of meshes to sell or give away etc, but re-skins as some call 'em are acceptable. The content in the demo's is owned by the purchaser and if you don't want the demo's used as is then it should be clearly stated in the license, far as I know they can do what they like with these.
I reckon this is someone who has actually read the license and knows they are doing nothing illegal.

Okay what TGC needs to do is actually have it in writing within each demo stating that it is a demonstration or something of the sort. I noticed The Big Escape does have a message in it. Though I do not believe Asylum.

The uploader has been doing everything he can to destroy the Game Guru brand. Should take a look at his history. I'm very temped to personally take him down by my own means. His intent is evil. Hence why he labels the uploads with tags like "meme" and "trolling". I will not put with people like that, as this may affect any work I may upload on the same platform in future if given a mention of the engine or using any of the same assets (which I now intent to avoid).

Game Guru has become a laughing stock online due to lowlife, worthless, pathetic people like him.

By the way he also uploaded "Get To The River" and named it "ISIS Simulator".

Just complained on steam. Put this

This is just a GameGuru demo that is being passed off as the creators

BunchOD00dz
ArcaneRaise

original game. It is a pixel by pixel standalone, made in GameGuru.

This shouldn't be on sale as a unique game, as anyone who buys GameGuru can have this, as it is part of the package.

COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT.

Its important to note that you can also write on the discussion forums of these two map rips, to warn others of this scam before buying. In the event that Steam doesn't take any action themselves.

Black Screen Simulator (Asylum)
http://steamcommunity.com/app/741460/discussions/

ISIS Simulator (Get To The River)
http://steamcommunity.com/app/705600/discussions/

If you ever intent to upload to Steam in the future with a game you made in Game Guru, I strongly recommend taking action against offenders like these.

Left a comment on that "game" discussion board too, I see you have as well teabone, thanks for alerting us to this. Makes me see RED

I hope TGC really throw there weight at this so called developer. Here we are, the man on the street, using what spare time we have exploring game creation to make something hopefully someone will like playing and along comes a low-life, ripping GameGuru and TGC off, just not on.

There that's my anger vented.

PT Barnum was right. There are suckers born every day.
These people got to be hating life right now, replaying this same single level.

Insane the number of users for the demo levels being sold.

Steam really better sort this guy out, have you looked at the recommended spec for the game, he is taking the p**s big time for gods sake

Here they are if you haven't seen.

RECOMMENDED:
OS: Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and so on
Processor: Doesn't really matter, it'll run like crap on anything
Memory: 666 GB RAM
Graphics: Whatever, just don't forget to bring eggs to cook on it
DirectX: Version 6.0
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 666 GB available space
Sound Card: Optional, tbh you'd rather not hear it
Additional Notes: 1080p30 silky smooth if lucky, good luck! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Whatever the reason for this RIP OFF, I'm surprised this game is still up for sale, how long does it take Steam to answer queries like this and sort them out?

As ROLFY stated, the terms of the GameGuru license allows any user to use any of the assets, levels, scripts, etc that are included in the product and sell games royalty and license free. It's quite legal and for this particular user, his $20 investment (+$500 Steam fees) has probably yielded over $10,000 in profit. Hopefully any injury we may have inflicted on him/her to take such a damaging act against GameGuru has been redressed. I agree with the YouTuber that Steam would benefit from a little curation to help channel users to the right product for them, but it seems the trend will be to allow anyone to publish on Steam and create an app economy similar to what we are seeing now with iOS and Android stores (very hard to get visibility there). We've talked about curation for years, but no-one has come up with a solid solution that works for everyone. One day perhaps.

In the meantime, my focus will remain on creating things. If anyone wants to take those things and sell them on for a grossly inflated profit, I leave the ethics of that to their own conscience and hope enough users on Steam come to realize that the GameGuru policy of creative and commercial freedom does more good than harm. Maybe the damage has already been done, but if there is one positive takeaway to this (and I like to look on the bright side) it does show that even the 'allegedly' laziest human on the planet can 'create' and sell a 3D game on Steam.

NOTE: It is also highly likely most of those sales statistics would contain a high number of refunds, and with them, a completely tattered reputation. I think there is such a thing equivalent to Karma in the games industry and as much as no good deed goes unpunished I think bad deeds follow you around like the proverbial Zombie.

I have to agree with rolfy.
It is a ridiculous thing to do, but there's no violation.

BTW, look at the "features", LOL:

Features:
Guns
Zombies
Low FPS
Long loading time
Occasional crashes
Very dark, hard to see
Short, good for speedrun
