Hi guys

Today I once again played around in gameguru and suddenly had this Idea of having a tree sprite as grass.
And this is the result! Creating the scene took me about 20 minutes and creating the video for it literally 2 hours because I am not very good at commenting stuff and having to do it in english makes it even more difficult for me haha
BUT you see what I mean and how beautiful it is

Tell me your thoughts! I think it's awesome!

Looks really good. I'm not understanding how it's good frame rate though, paint grass is normally one of the really FPS hungry settings I would have thought it would have been worse frame rate.

Thanks

1. download the file I uploaded here in the thread.
2. Place it in gameguru/file/vegbank folder
3. Go in testgame mode and change the grass to "_dk_spruceforest_landscape"
4. Done! Now make the landscape you want.

OR you can download the .fpm mapfile I just uploaded. Just drag it into your gameguru mapbank folder.

That's a great idea!

Now if we only had multiple grass types per map...

Multiple grass types can be achieved right now.

Make a texture with the types of grass you want on it.

Open a copy of a grass folder and edit the meshes and map them to the different grass textures.
Export them as a x file.

Open Game Guru and make a terrain and paint grass on the terrain.. Run test game and assign your new grass texture.

You will see it appear as as many grass types as you added to the texture and the mesh.

Attached is the files I use to make the multi grass object.
All you would need to do is change the grass textures and then you can have this for commercial and private use.

Make a duplicate of the folder and change the name of it. If you just change the texture, then there will be no modelling required.

I have included the 3ds max file and the .obj format for those who may want to change the meshes.

wow how have I not seen this before. Visually stunning. I understand its not technically trees and probably has no collisions and incredibly short... if your level did not have any grass... and you had areas in the distance you could not go to... but you could see.. you could paint an entire scenery like this there.

When we get multiple grass types in GG, you'd be able to have distance scenery like this and accessible areas with grass.

lol i love you guys when you come up with something like this it always triggers something in me to have a go especially this type of thing
So i set out this morning resizing the .x and adding some new .dds's and this is what i came up with "spray trees" I've done 2 so far Deciduous and Pine and they turned out pretty good, ignore the fps guys im getting the accross the board atm with GG so should i would think run better with the update
just drop them in the veg bank and adjust the height to suit.

the issue with the edit grass type right now is that you would always have a selection of equally placed random foliage on the ground rather than different areas with different grasses. That is actually a really good idea though! If only there was a way to stop that random "super tall" and "super fat" grass from appearing to use this for distant crowds of people

Yeah totally agree there m8 would be sweet to have say 3 choosable spray types, that way we could spray e.g 2 grass types and a tree layer ive been playing about with it and found that if i try to extend the grass out that it forms the x around the center tree so will be fiddling with that to see if i can make it alittle more realistic. I did a snowy tree veg spray today which kinda turned out nice just glows with lighting (looks better without) and on high if you drop it to low it doesnt glow but doesnt move either :/ still i think it looks quite effective for a hack heres a quick looksee on a section of my new projects first map and files included. Thanks to Duchenkuke and Pirate Myke for the original files. Will post any more i make in the freebies section
