Hi all

It seams to me, that there are just a few of us frequenting the forums - or at least posting here.

So is it just me, or are the forums pretty much dead atm?

The new store forum is even worse.

Hmn, looking over the forum the following people posted just yesterday in the Product Chat section of the forum:

and that's just in product chat yesterday, not including the rest of the forum.

Seems like plenty of people chatting away to me.

I agree that the store community is very quiet, but that's because of the nature of the product, with store stuff you wouldn't really chat over there unless you had a problem, so i take the quiet there as a sign that Jasons doing a good job, and there's no problems at the moment

(there were also 42 people browsing this forum at the time i posted this)

@Belidos

Yeah, I was referring mainly about those who are actively posting. There are obviously many more browsing, but not engaging.

There are a few more, but the names you posted above seam to be the scope of any conversation atm.

Not wanting to be negative or anything, just an observation. I have been wondering about it for a few weeks now.

I just thought with all the cool stuff with Prebens shader updates of late, and Lees barrage of new builds, things would more vibrant around here is all

I suppose there is plenty to play with now while Lee sorts DX11 update out.

Hey reliquia & everyone!

That's not my impression. It's one of the most eloquent, friendly and helpful forums of the world. Also I think that the current momentum that GAME GURU has with all those amazing updates by Lee and some supporting developers is creating a great vibe.. GG hast the chance to become the Nr.1 WYSWYG / realtime-editor for interactive / immersive 3D / POV-scenarios.

Also: I am very sure that many developers are currently tweaking along with their projects and only reading here instead of posting. So that's quite the opposite of a dead forum.
Also to be considered: I am basically routed in the electronic music world, but personally i don't like to show off with unreleased projects before those are finished. Kind of kills the magic. I think many developers just don't show their work here. They just release it and probably hide the fact that it was done in GG.

Well, I also think the STEAM-forum for GG is counter-productive in terms of FAME if it's not a mirror of this one here.

I too have noticed a lower amount of activity in the forums lately...

I have lacked in my activity lately also...

I have had so much difficulty trying to figure out how to deal with the last few updates, that, I banned myself from posting anything in the forum for a month... I'm waiting for things to get smoothed out, so I don't get overly excited and complain too much... I want the forums to be fun and kind, so I'm doing my part to keep it that way..... LOL

Have a great day everybody...

I'm here still just been ridiculous busy sorting out my house doing business course a long distance relationship and many more things. Also my twin world project is not dead. I am building up my hunger for it but firstly had so much on. Also getting fit etc. But I read mainly at the moment. And I not had time to really get into the thousands of new bits extras. Very impressed with some new things. And now the lua is out there gonna hopefully see some great new scripts and things. Also I need my old monsters updating as they are a bit not working

It does seem rather slow in the forums. I'm just looking around the forums. To see if any body came up with any thing amazing with the newer updates. Like some cool scripts, games, models, a spaceship that you can fly around in and shoot lasers etc. Lol Since I don't know what the heck half of the updates even do? Or how to use any of them? I spend a lot of time trying to learn. Who knows? Maybe I'll see one of the soldier entity's do a cool ninja front kick from one of the newer updates? Then back to work on my slow moving Sci Fi game.

This release seems to be stable with the terrain and EBE pretty much sorted so I guess users are just playing around with all the features. Not to many with complaints this time and With 272 views I'm guessing many are around even if their not posting ..

From switching from fpsc to gameguru, I think a lot of users are lost. But with the latest news, the move to directx 11, and the ability to truly customize a game, will surely bring new users and bring back old users.

The store seems to be in maintenance, I tried to post some posts in the forum but stayed there waiting to be approved. Hoping it will not stay closed for months.

The store isn't and hasn't been closed.

It's the same as here, if you haven't got three approved posts then you have to wait for approval.

GG is a niche after all, so there will always be less people than on forums dealing with more popular matters.

Basically I came back to the forums and everyone was like "Oh no, who invited him back?" and they left.
It's my theory that they are all lurking in a private forum elsewhere on the internet, making fun of me

Seriously though, I'm with DVader on this - it's spring/summer for most of us so we're out doing stuff. I'm a little disappointed my WIP thread hasn't garnered a few more comments but then I see the quality of the other games in development at the moment and it puts mine to shame!

Hopefully, the rendering overhaul will help to improve active user retention a bit. If so, we should then see more activity.
Active user retention has been pretty poor so far. While not totally accurate because of offline users (like myself), Steamcharts is a good way to ballpark the numbers.

My personal opinion is that improving graphic and scripting capabilities (not to be confused with "features") will attract more artists and scripters willing to put in the time to create the content that will retain both casual and serious users. Now that it appears that core engine framework is being improved in lieu of content orientated features, I'm much more optimistic than I was a year ago.

Quote: "I still have to find a solution, for the non existent shotgun projectiles."

What is the exact problem that you are having? I just tested and 3rd person shotgun raycast iteration seems to be working just fine. You will need to increase the accuracy value in gunspec beyond the default "accuracy=50" if you want to see meaningful spread at close distance though. You can also try increasing the number of pellets by increasing the iterate value. It can be a bit dodgy to test because of the lack of tracers and short draw range of impact effects.

@everyone - well this is one way to make a lively thread - lol.

@Avenging Eagle - Lol yeah where is that private forum! I must admit I mostly look at wip thread when at work if the art centre is in slow mode, but I don't log in at work, so don't comment. Fixed it in your case though

I have the same problem - I have been thinking of starting a wip for some time, but then I see what others are doing, and the status-quo remains.....

@MooKai just checked the link you posted - it sure looks likes like you are pre-occupied I read all the comments too - which just reminded me why I rarely go on Steam site. Half the posters there I like some little girl who despises her brother, and it doesn't matter what he does he can't do anything right. lol

Greenlight... well, it's history soon

I've to add a projectile to the shotgun for top down 3rd person view.
But the 2 types of of projectiles are hardcoded in GG at the moment.
But it shouldn't be a problem to modify and edit them somehow, I've read some threads about that here already.
I'm reading here more than posting.

Sun is shining, it's becomming summer. I must admit to be more outdoor... I missed it.
I prepared a new 3rd party tool for you (A tool to make your own little(!) SteamClient for your games). But finally... I enjoy the weather to much, to get it finished.
I think in one or two month I hate so much sun and things will change again .

Indeed, a combination of summer and hopefully the fact that GG is improving enough that people aren't needing to come and complain so it seems like there's not many threads being opened.

@mookai, you can script projectiles using separate objects now as you can accurately return hits and such.

smallg, you can lock the character, so that you only see him from behind. then I guess your projectiles are perfect for the 3rd person top down games.

You see the problem here in my game (without projectiles), the impact of the bullets are nearly invisible... not good for an arcade game

sorry if i'm hijacking the thread but here's a fixed version with much more accurate impact placements

i'll release it soon (likely tomorrow), just going to put together an ammo pickup script first.
But remember as this is not using the default weapon system it will require a custom HUD to show the ammo count (hence why my ammo counter is always on 0) and of course as the thirdperson can't change weapon it only really supports 1 weapon.

yh, third person only as they don't support firing at an angle.

Hi guys, I really do think that there should be extra animations for third person jumps, maybe scripted too. The default jump animation is for when the character jumps over an object while holding on the wall / object, etc. It's not very realistic at this point in time lol.
