enjoy! (I check YouTube very frequently, I answer all my comments on videos!)

Let me know what you guys think! This is the first level (will probably be expanded further down the line)

I added some in-game screenshots to show off some of the ReShade effects used

feel free to give any ideas or links to asset packs, models etc.

Not bad for a first try. The open world / map design looks believable, the action seems to be fun.

I wouldn't use the chrome-shiny fences in a torn-down WWII scenario, though.

Thank you! I am yet to find any replacements for those fences, so I had to stick with the default assets for now. If this game actually takes off in terms of development, I'll go and invest more so into things like this

The basic design of those fences isn't bad, but you should re-texture them, that's free

I'm debating on expanding this level, or starting a new level which is either a city (I have all the assets for that) or an open world style level, however, I'm struggling to incorporate any kind of story into the game so far. My only fear is that the game becomes repetitive and boring, I'll try my best to avoid this!

Yeah good point, I'll look into re-texturing them soon

Check out Bod's Mods fence, he did this as part of the P.O.W camp set

https://forum.game-guru.com/thread/215012?page=5#msg2555148

They might be a better style, although I'm not sure about re-texture his work :/

Edit: Forgot to say, I like the look of this Although I suspect you knew where all the enemies where!? lol

Hahaha thanks man, I appreciate it! Well considering I created the level, I do indeed know the location of the enemies I'll look into replacing the fences now.

EDIT: Had a look at the fences. You guys reckon I should use these instead then? Personally I would think it would be a nice upgrade. Does anybody know if the creator is okay with me using these in my game? I would have thought so or else the pack would not be free?

Im pretty sure bod has written in the first post in that thread the conditions of use, I think its fine to use in a game, you're just not allowed to redistribute the model outside of a game.

So in other words, its okay to use in game, but I cannot say the models were made by me and pass them on (e.g. take any credit for it)? Just want to be sure I don't upset anybody by accidentally using music, models, scripts etc.

yeah, he had some issues with people claiming his work as their own, and even selling them! So he did make changes to his T&C's.

Quote: "All the models in this thread were created by me (Robert Hindle), they are free to use in GameGuru games only, you don't have to give me credit although it would be nice. DO NOT alter them, DO NOT upload them to any other site for download and DO NOT claim them as your own models."

So, you can use. Just don't claim them as your own, and you cannot alter them in-order to claim them as your own.

Give him a PM, by all accounts he seems like a nice genuine guy

I'm impressed! If this is what you can create as a first attempt I can't wait to see what your second will be!
Been there, done that, got all the T-Shirts!

Well actually, I hate to say it, this is my second attempt. My first attempt I made over 10 months ago, in the first 3 days of using GameGuru. Then I left GameGurur for a while, only just came back to it on Monday!

I like what I see here, but although the specific colour grading and coat of shader paint you've applied can make gameguru's scenery shine prettily, I think you still need to work on a few things: Try to make more realistic looking mountains, as those just kinda seem like tall rock walls designed to keep you on the path. I'd also make sure that all those trees are coming from the ground. the second pic has a tree in the upper right that appears to just be floating next to a mountain, or at least growing from a rock. I love how the bloom has red and blue hues coming from it, that's pretty.

Yes, those are all very valid comments, thank you! In the next level I will be sure to focus on this, or even edit the present level to add this. One thing that is odd is waypoints, they just will not appear in my level whatsoever. Any ideas?

Actually, the random level generator makes for some quite nice terrain. However,I need to find a way to make invisible walls as I want to keep the atmosphere and view of the outside map.

I've started a much more open world style level this time around, thinking of adding some proper trenches if i can too. I've aimed for a more eerie style atmosphere.

There's already invisible walls in the stock assets, not 100% sure which folder but check fixtures or scenery, its usually one or the other that Lee puts odd things.

To block the path from a gameplay point you could just do something like mine fields and/or barbed wire...even a few simple signposts or craters would likely convey the message, Its pretty common at that time to stick to very specific paths for fear of blowing up.
Or a few gas fog type decals or even artillery / air strikes in the distance.
Even snipers could work... Plenty of reasons to stick to the game area

Not sure if I have overdone it here, but I've attempted to make a much more sinister scene which more clearly represents the aftermath of war. Take a look, feel free to constructively criticise and give ideas!

The style is fine, there is just little else to these 2 screenshots.
The colour grading adds the right mood to it but I think that map needs a lot more to be engaging.

Your video is certainly getting a lot of positive comments and I find it to be a very good start as well!

At the time of these screenshots, I spent about 15 minutes on this map add trees and making the atmosphere, making sure any trees outside the invisible wall had any physics to optimise the game, I'm just getting to adding the details now Thanks for the support! I'll keep you all updated if anything big happens What is odd is when I add a story zone with a video, the frames go from 115 to 30 in game?!?!
