Here are a couple of pictures of Particle Zones in GameGuru. I can't take credit for the model/texture (will probably make my own when I get more time).
Unfortunately, we only have 1 particle emitter at the moment, but thought it might be a good idea (or not) to have a Particle Zone placement marker (at least in the future). The entity options are from legacy FPSC (where in the FPE ismarker = 4) and don't work, but I have assigned a customised LUA script to set off the particles when close to the particle zone.
Let me know if you think this is a rubbish or ok(ish) idea or simply don't care

Neat idea, now all we need is a real particle emitter.

Maybe you'll get support for particle emissions in 2018. We had it 7 years ago in FPSCx9 believe it or not:

You should not become so pessimist when GG starts to get really good.
Particles will come perhaps sooner than you expect lol

I'm a realist. Never been incorrect about my projections here either. The volumetric particle emission requests are ranked 40th on the list. While the list will be reconstructed and updated for new submissions I have my doubts it will make the top 5. Believe current rate of development is about 5 items a year.

I still can't believe "Menu Editing" is next and "Talking Characters / Quest Givers" is 2nd. They should be below VR, lol. I hope the reset does major damage to those two's ranking! "All settings to have equivalent Lua commands" should be at the top, IMO.

Totally disagree, there shouldn't be anything below VR, VR is fluff and should be the last thing implemented in my opinion.

Personally i think VR is going to be just another fad like the NVidia 3D glasses, give it a year or two and hardly anyone will be using them, and the next big thing (maybe the holographic system micro$oft is working on) will be all the rage. So personally i really don't want to see time wasted developing it here until a huge chunk of the important stuff is done.

Of course that's just my opinion, everyone has a different one, and everyone's entitled to it

Wow, that ground mist looks cool.
Would be nice for some mystery, horror scenes...
Hmm, I think we have to wait a bit more.
Old school FPS fan, DOOM!!! Why GG not working on my AMIGA 500?

Not everyone has a good VR headset and not everyone wants to develop for VR.
VR is tons of work to get the tools and to get it right, it's a big task to maintain also, it asks a really fast 3D Engine until you only use very basic graphics, i am not sure GG is tailored for VR performance.
If VR was the priority you could forget all editor and graphics or tools improvments and you would be making Half Life 1 in VR lol

@Teabone
This is expectations vs reality, you are expecting too much. I would like also GG having some features from the big ones, but this is not realistic.
Smaller 3D indie engines developped by 1 to 5 people will always be slower than ones developped by hundred people indeed.
I am impressed with the last updates GG is getting, you should be happy at least with what is worked on.

I follow GG progress because i like many things about it and i would like to use it for a commercial project, but i will wait for improvments in many areas, and i know it's useless i ask features that any users is aware already.
Why don't you have fun modding with Creation Kit or play with Unreal on another side project , while GG gets the features you would like ? This is the best way to get away any frustration and you could express your 3D artistic talents fully while coming back to GG when it gets what you need.

And i repeat that i strongly agree with you about particles system , this is something lot more essential to a 3D Engine than polishing graphics or AI, and it should be the next feature to come after AI improvments.

@Arfur9-unfortunately not, for both the marker and particles, if that's what you meant

I like it. Snow, rain, fire, fog.
Smog is not friedly configurable, just emitter or does not.
Unfortunatelly most of the Devcore decals does not work for me, ie the snow.
