works very well, well done for achieving this
The only thing I noticed is his legs still animate when I jump, no big deal. Just gotta get used to controlling the Lunar. I broke it upon landing and tried to run to the ship on the other side and it flew off......charming ha......

Latest version for you lot to play with.

This version contains a simple mission plus I have polished (you can polish a ...) the sprite handling, i.e. it should work in any screen mode.

As this version contains at least one example of all the main elements I planned to include it is already suitable as a demo, if you make a standalone the sprites need to be copied over by hand, not sure why probably something to do with the directory they are in or something.

The only things missing are the cut scenes I plan to add and a few extra missions.

To get the zip file small enough I reduced the size of the textures on the Habitat model but the model itself is improved a lot, it is still in two parts but they are now scaled and oriented correctly.

If you haven't got the drop_ship model there is a link to it in a previous post, make sure to put it in the Sci Fi pack directory.

Subtle but cool addition to the take off sequence.

Working on a second mini mission, added the solar panels and storage tanks to the map display.

Has anyone tried this out on lesser hardware yet?

Make sure to delete the old moonlander directory before copying the new one from the zip file and make sure any new models are in the right places. This error is probably due to the new model in entitybank/user, I think if GG can't find the model it doesn't run the associated lua script for it.

Also, make sure you've copied over the .fpm file.

@Blacknyt46, what's the Mission to Mars pack? I'm using entities from the Sci Fi pack plus a few of my own (well downloaded from NASA at least), Belidos's drop ship and a few from the Mega packs and Classics which everyone should have.

New video (I apologise for the low resolution but I had to go down to 1360x768 to make the video small enough to up[load to vimeo!), showing the initial cutscene plus mission briefing etc.

As always, comments & suggestions welcome.

Firstly, I did not even know GameGuru could hide the main third person character and fly around in a spaceship, which is a little scary considering I'm the guy writing the game engine Amazing work on show here, especially the slowly building narrative and the different activities for the player to do. Was almost sad when the video ended as I wanted to know what Katherine had in store for the player? It was suggested that it could be included in GameGuru, but it looks like you would need the Scifi Pack DLC to make it work, so it might be better distributing it as a standalone game as an example of what can be done. Also good to see a game that does not involve shooting everyone in sight, and suggests that the third person system (when complete) could be a great driver for games with more narrative than direct combat.

Hmm, the decals are mainly from the Mega pack 2 as the base decals are a bit limited, some of the entities are from the classic stuff which was recently released so they are ok, the rest is from the Sci Fi pack, what I downloaded from NASA and of course the Belidos drop ship thingy.

All the scripts and sprites were created by me so they are ok.

Maybe this could be free DLC but only show up for download for people who already have the paid DLC? Don't really know how all that stuff works.

@Lee, hiding the third person is the easy part, getting the characters created in GG to work as third person is the hard part, I still need to turn off jumping and running but even then the animations do not fit with the 'lunar' theme. Having said that it doesn't detract too much from the experience, the important part is that the story is engaging and moves along fluidly.

What I would really like is proper lunar terrain textures, the asteroid ones (that probably comes form the Sci Fi pack come to think of it) are too dark and look far too regular. Tried to make my own but couldn't figure it out.

The text box thingy is something I'm quite proud of and is relatively general purpose, if you like fiddling around with gimp it is relatively easy to customise as well, just make sprites for al the individual letters, numbers and symbols in whatever font you want (the sprites should all be the same size) and create a background sprite. The script does all the rest.

The terrain map is also something I think could have many uses.

Anyone trying it out remember that it is important to set vsync ON in the GG setup file as that ensures everything moves smoothly, for some reason probably only Lee could fathom if you turn it off all sorts of strangeness occurs.

I think it would just make a great Game included in the core if I'm honest ..... Wonder if that could be sorted ?

Ahh just realised .... The Scifi pack is DLC as well ....I don't think it could in that case

I just read that Gene Cernan, the last man to set foot on the Moon, just passed away. I think it's sad that nobody has gone back there. I guess the disappointment of finding out that it's not really made of cheese was unbearable! For now though, we have endeavors such as yours!

Latest version, just the scriptbank stuff and the fpm (which I may have omitted last time, oops) the other stuff is all available in earlier posts (i.e the skybank, entitybank and setup.ini).

This version includes everything seen in the last video plus a few more polishings, this turd will shine ).

I still have to finish off the 'kate' mission and add a few more missions I have already planned out.

I've also tried out Prebens new shaders with this and the terrain looks much better with them.

It's the little dust puffs that are new here, attach the script to some small entities and scatter them under the ship then when the ship takes off you get little random puffs of dust.

The script uses a global variable that defines the ships x,y,z position and a flag that tells it the ship is taking off, you could change those and use this with a helicopter or even a ground vehicle.

Liked the dust puffs so much I extended them to the LEM.

Had to add the EBE in there as well, this will be the underground construction site eventually.

Ok, so the bad news first, I'm going to wait for 1.14 release before I go any further with this as there are some fixes in it that I need plus I am going to use the EBE for a couple of underground things. The good news is that in a few days I will put a new version up on here which includes the dust puffs and the completed 'kate' mission (complete with an update to the terrain map thingy to show mission objectives).

One thing I have realised is that the particle emitter, albeit limited, is actually quite cool and doesn't seem to affect the performance much, I'm using 18 of them for the dust puffs! I reckon that if Lee can add some more Lua commands to control them as part of the 'core' improvements it would make a massive difference to the apparent 'quality' of games.
