This is from over a year ago on the Blog.
"Just finished another day of DirectX 11 researches, and indeed finished my first week back in the hot seat, and also been on and off the forums and just wanted to clarify something about DirectX 11. The work I will be doing over the next few weeks will not be to introduce new visual effects or graphic in the next update, but instead will be in order to improve performance. We will certainly open the door to these great new visuals, but our first step is to refine the ‘scene graph’ that GameGuru uses to structure how it renders and in doing so ensure it renders as quickly as possible the stuff we have right now in the editor and game.
That said, I did discover one small visual feature that I ‘might’ be convinced to sneak in very shortly after the performance work which is the DX11 FXAA technique which will remove the ugly jaggies from lower resolution screens, and effectively smoothing out edges on all in-game graphics. It can be a very subtle tweak, and cost a few frames, but the overall result is definite jump in quality, both in live game action and screenshots. The reason I mention this is that the FXAA technique is only a single change to the post process shader and should not take too long, and the benefits easily out way the extra day or two required to implement it. I think with this in place, every single GameGuru creation will suddenly leap up to the next level and have an almost intangible feeling of improved quality and I am eager to see if that’s what happens. Naturally you will be able to switch this off if you want to keep those extra few frames, channeling them back into the performance riddled speed monster we are working on.
In other news, with another day comes another small glimpse of new items materializing in the SciFi content being creates as I type this. I have also asked the artist to have a think about some key DirectX 11 enabled effects he might like to see in support of the new assets he is creating. Of course that work will tie in to a task from the voting board when a related feature is voted top, but it would be good to get a wish-list of visual touches that will take advantage of the new toys afforded us by DirectX 11 support.
I also want to mention that with the release of our DirectX 11 powered software, we must end support for Windows XP. I am very interested in hearing from anyone this affects so we can mitigate any issues that may arise. Our stats show that less than 3% of Steam users are using XP now but the GameGuru percentage may be much higher and I want to make sure those users are catered for in some way. If you are using Vista, the good news is that DirectX 11 runs on that platform so you are safe for the foreseeable future, but we had to draw the line on XP at some point and with our massive CPU and GPU overhaul we felt this was a good time to start the process."
Still waiting...
In fact Cybernescence has added DX9 FXAA support in the meantime
Really, I am most disappointed by this years progress. Considering all the blog details about DX11 and such, we have seen nothing of this at all. Perhaps this is why Lee is keeping quiet these days
