If anyone would like to convert Autodesk Character Generator characters to GameGuru, please let me know - works well with Fragmotion. You will need either Student/other version of Autodesk 3DS max or a good FBX converter and Fragmotion as well as Meshview.exe and Mender 2.0 (to prevent saggy and disfigured mesh).. You can apply your own or existing GameGuru animations, wizard is just for quick demo purposes.

If you want to check the website out it's here: https://charactergenerator.autodesk.com/

That would be very much appreciated, it would be nice to have an alternative to Fuse, Fuse is great and all but eventually you get tired of the same resources and crave something different, and from what I remember autodesk character generator has some pretty nice clothing options.

i7, NV960 4GB, 16GB memory, 2x 4TB Hybrid, Win10.
i5 , AMD 6770 1GB, 8GB memory, 512GB Generic SATAIII + 2TB Seagate Baracuda SATAIII, Win7.
i3, Radeon integrated graphics, 4GB memory, 512gB Generic SATAII, Win8.1.
Q6600, Intel integrated graphics, 2GB memory, 180GB Generic SATAII, WinXP.

@Belidos- yes I do prefer the autodesk generator more variety and you can export correctly and it also has a script that does all the rigging and bones to match exactly with GameGuru bones.....used it last year but used Animer and didn't work too well, but this time is much much better with Fragmotion now I got that to work correctly with the right FIRESPOT in the right place.

My Fegnang character with Autodesk generator, he is much better now with gun in correct place and Gerard actually dies correctly. although Fegnang trousers are semi-transparent, will have to fix that.

Another great thing about Autodesk Character Generator (if i'm remembering correct) is that when you open up the FBX in Max it generates a single UV texture instead of the multiple textures that Fuse does, which makes it far better for GameGuru.

It's also great if you want to do something weird, like make a character that looks scarily like Obama in drag :p

@belidos-ha that looks funny, I prefer the autodesk generator to fuse, may also setup an account so I can get the extra model types etc....

Have you tried Fuse 2.0 yet? It keeps prompting me to download the it, but I haven't tried it yet and I can't find any info about what's new in it yet.

Imreally want this tuto, never go in depth thru chars, I would to try.
Anyway I've some odd/abusive/hard request, I'm going to try to explain hopping you get right my point :

For non english speakers like me, when the author talk enough and do a bit, is not the better way to understand. but when author does the vid enought "self-explanatory", author does not need speak too much, better for him and for me.
You know this telling somethig about 1 image being more understable than 1000 words, or something like that.

That's my problem with the Lee/Ravey videos, they are useful a quite informatives, but I undeerstand nothing, because they speak andd spean and speak, and I do not understand nothing; is a pain, since I feel I'm missing something very important here.

I am very grateful for the effort involved to do all these tutorials, but I also like to understand, and I know, to ask a written tutorial (pdf, docx), it would be an extra effort and time that they do not have.

@3com - written tutorial no problem at all- I speak German but that's about it. I can even attempt a translated version into your national language. What is that by the way?

@belidos-I've downloaded and installed it, not tried it yet-maybe later. Don't like the Adobe site much but then it's early days.

[update-actually a quick glance at that version and I think I'll stick to 1.3, doesn't seem any different and no upload feature from what I can see, but could be wrong]

[update2-actually you can upload to Mixamo when you click on "save to mixamo" button.

Man, do I know that feeling! I decided last night I would quickly mow my lawn then do some modelling, but by the time i'd finished with the lawn I couldn't see the screen to do anything so took some pills and got an early night.

NIce vids, thanks MIke. Autodesk processing slowly isn't on your end, their servers aren't as good as they used to be and they have massive periods of slow down, it can be a nightmare especially during peak hours, but it's worth it.

Thanks for the videos!

I made a couple characters with Autodesk Character Generator last year. in fact, I didn't even remember doing it until I followed the link you gave and had to reset my password to get in, lol. I now remember why I didn't pursue it any further. 88 bones generic fbx? 85 in Max fbx? They obviously work in GG because you've done it, but I thought there was a limit to the number of bones in GG (like 60 something). Anyway, between that and Fuse, they both have their strengths. In Fuse, the selection of clothing is smaller, but each item can be (almost) infinitely customized through the use of Substance. You can also make your own, if you so desire. Face and body sculpting offer much more customization. The big plus I see with Autodesk is the comparatively low poly count with a still decent looking character = more characters! I've tried Fuse 2 also. I just tried it again after coming across this thread and for some reason it doesn't even launch now. I remember when trying it the first time there were even fewer options clothing wise than in 1.3. I also ran across Morph3D last year, a product by DAZ Studios (or somehow related to DAZ; they use their Genesis characters). It looked promising at the start, but as time has gone by (about a year now) it seems to be a Unity exclusive. I could go and extract the Unity packages of course, but still if I were to ever market a game (I have no plans to, but who knows? Maybe someday!), there could be some kind of battle there legally. They said from the start it would be compatible eventually with other engines, but as yet nothing new. It's nice that all these character generators are coming about, though, some of us just don't have the talent, lol

@Jerry Tremble-thanks for your comments-After removing the light bones there are 78 bones in the xena character I did. I forgot about the 60 bone limit but works ok. Yes not sure I will be using Fuse 2.0, but would like to try the Morph3D and also I have used MakeHuman which seemed to work ok last year, will revisit that when I get more free time. I think I'm quite lazy when it comes to modelling, I got stuck into Gamespace/Truespace 7.5/6 few years back doing Elf tutorial and other models and enjoyed it but it's very time consuming but fun. I started to do gun HUDS in blender last year and stopped after a while to do other stuff, wished I'd kept it up now as I have forgotten some of it. I seem to recall I had used Substance but don't think I got anywhere or ended up not using it. I would love to see the GameGuru character generator expanded on where you can have more variety, change the body/face aspects etc like some of these other 3rd party generators. Oh well back to some good old fashion coding

after following Stab In The Dark Software videos, I now have a more cleaner model in GameGuru of Xena. I basically did the following:-

-added the LUA script that 'Deletes a bone from Hierarchy' to the menu in Fragmotion.
-exported out the animations in Biovision BVH format.
-deleted the old animation.
-zero'd all joints.
-merged the BVH animations back onto the Xena model.
-removed any bones that didn't have bone assignments present- except the eyes.
-exported back out as .X file.

A cheaper way to do the fbx conversion with out buying 3d max is to use uu3d pro. (costs $70.00 usd) uu3d pro Also has great poly reduction tool.

Thanks BOTR, you are so generous sharing your knowledges with us.

I've some question, I got a black screen with some links than does not work, I've tried with chrome, perhaps with anotheer navigator?, or maybe I'm doing something wrong?, or maybe has to do with this magazine bonus I can't get here?
Not have so clear what this magazine bonus does.

Thanks again mate.

I think I'm going to finally pony up the money and buy Fragmotion, lol. I've had the trial version for years and vowed I would purchase it if it became useful. Well, I think that day has arrived! I never realized what all it could do until just these past few weeks.

Would it be any trouble to make a vid on how to do this. Also If you could maybe make a vid about adding own animations instead of having to use masked soldier or wizard. I would like to have zombie animations and melee animations. I tried just changing the script to zombie or melee, but they don't seem to work with the masked soldier animations. I know these vids take up a lot of time, so I'm in no rush. And only if you can find the time. Thanks in advance BOTR. I have learned a lot from you.

Fragmotion has always been an underrated program. It can do alot for a $50.00 dollar program. I find if you use it alot you should buy it and put some money into the creators pocket. Just my opinion.

Honestly I never really used it until these past few weeks. It has now become a major part of the "pipeline", so I agree.

Solved.

@ BOTR
I've seen yours vids, and I found them quite self-explanatory, and easy to understand.
Well done mate! thanks again.
I just hope your health improves.

Edit: Sorry I'm crossing 2 different threads, when talking about magazine bonus; I'm a man, and I forguet we can't do 2 differents things at time.

I had tried with xena, and I can say Autodesk system looks like an easiest system than Mixamo.

I've some issue with fragmotion, in BOTR video 2, when in "FIRESPOT>Transform panel>Apply to>Bones selection"; I just have:
"FIRESPOT>Transform panel>Apply to>Bones" option, does not haave "Bones selection", due that issue transforms a are being apllied to all bones, instead of the FIRESPOT bone.

The question is:
1- Is because I'm running trial version?
2- I'm doing something wrong?
3. Is because the frag version? using v1.3.4

Thanks in advance 4 any tip.

@3com- I either click on the bone on the right pane and then go to transform or use the bone widget tool or select->select bone to select the bone. Once you have selected the single bone , select transform etc. You can also select the bone on the actual model if you have the skull and crossbones selected at top of the screen. hope this helps.
