Hey all, my current project is Seasons: a set of matching terrains and skyboxes.

My plan is to create a set of textures with probable three skyboxes to match for each season.
All textures and skyboxes will come in 1 and 2k sizes.

I found it is pretty hard to come up something that I think is worth putting out to the world, so I figured best way is to get critique from people who may want to use them in their own projects.

Hence this WIP post.

In the next post I will provide a video, if I can get that to work, if not some screen shots of the current progress.

First up is SnowBound.

The intention of this set is to create a snowy landscape with cool to snowy skies.

This video shows the textures for the terrain, and the first skybox.

EDIT: OK video was too big I guess, taking way too long to upload, I will try make smaller size later to upload.

Meanwhile added pics below..

@Bored of the Rings, thanks for trying to look at the video, it was still trying to upload - hence the error
@HarryWever, thanks for the kind words.

I was hoping to show a video but the one I made was way too big, so I will make smaller one later tonight.
It think it looks really nice in-game...

The last one I made was like 193mb, any heads up on a more appropriate size to aim for....

Hi again, OK here is a short video, had to lower the quality somewhat to get the size down (still 67mb though), but I hope it gives you a snowy feeling!

Thanks for going to the trouble of making and uploading the video, OldFlak. The scenery is gorgeous and I love the sounds as well.

@Bored of the Rings thanks, sometimes when I work on stuff like this I wonder if I only like it because it's my own work, so , good to hear you like it.

@synchromesh, thankyou! Thats what I was hoping to achieve - the cold look and feel, makes you want to stay out of the water!!

@Inertia, again thanks, I am really pleased you guys like it, another video on the way soon

@Kesstryl thanks for the comment on the skybox, I may tweak it some more yet but I think it gives the feeling of cold.

Thanks all for the feedback. More stuff to come yet...

Hi again, another video and a couple pics.

The video is a bit larger than the last one (92mb). It shows the terrain using Medium and High terrain setting to demonstrate rocks and path textures.

And a couple pics:

Many thanks to BSP, I grabbed the Forest Trees from the store because the snow trees included in that pack were just the ticket for SnowBound!

I wish I had some skies...

Now it is back to the work at hand for a couple more skyboxes.

Thanks for viewing

Hi all, just a heads-up on what's happening with theses assets.

All skyboxes and both terrains are uploaded to the store, but there have been issues getting them active.

When I first uploaded them (about 2 weeks ago) I was just guessing at the folder structure - and of course got it wrong so they were rejected.

Since then I uploaded them (about a week ago) again. The terrains Snowbound and Snowbound Thaw have been approved and are in the store. Unfortunately the sky boxes have yet to be approved.

So if you were interested in buying these assets you may want to hold off a bit since you will be able to get the whole lot in one pack, but that won't be available till the skyboxes get approved.

Unfortunately I have no idea how long that will be....

Hey all, Snowbound is completed and now available in the store as single items (oc) and as a pack: Seasons - Snowbound.

It took some time because of a little confusion regarding correct folder structure, and some tweaking required on my part (learning curve), but mainly due to some technical problems with the server. However I should say that TGC staff were all very helpful and now is all sorted.

Now moving on to Seasons - ?? probably spring or summer sets.

Hey all,

A customer asked how I got the look depicted in the store for the Snowbound Thaw texture set. As the customer was new to Game-Guru I recorded a video tutorial to show some of the basics with the terrain paint tools in the engine.

This tutorial (like my first ever tut - lol) is not intended to be an in-depth coverage of these tools, but just covers the basic techniques I use when painting the terrain on a map.

As with all things game design related there are always trade-offs that have to be utilised to make a game work both visually and technically, because everything you do will have an affect on your and your end users computer resources. That in turn means you need to tinker with all of the Tab Tab settings, as well as being carefull about how many entities you place in a level. So suffice to say that none of that has been covered in this video or even considered.

Hopefully the quality of the video, both playback and content, will be usefull for some of you awesome people out there in the Game-Guru comunuity.

OK rant over - heres the video:

Happy game making!
