Apologies if this doesn't belong here MODS. Well, I've just logged into the site after a few years away, and I don't recognise anything and am still struggling with FPSC being called GameGuru!

Been having a quick browse around the forums and it got me thinking - whatever happened to some of the 'really old-skool' community from back on the old TGC Forums? Are members like Plystire,Rolfy,S4real, Wolf etc still active? I hardly recognise any of the names in the WIP board these days, and I just wondered if some of the old FPSC OAP's are stil alive and kicking! I always like to check in on my adopted game-dev family every now and then

I guess I am mid school. But I spent my days on x10. With the next and co. But wolf. rolfy. S4 real. Hockey kid etc are around. Brian xplosy as gone adrift along with u man. Some drift in and out. The software is miles from anything so they will be tinkering away with things. And probably dropping in like you are.

I was never really active in the community, but I've been with FPSC since X9's only model packs were 1-10. I just finished my X9 WWII game and have officially moved over to Gameguru for my next project. Susysyay on the old TGC forums. I also made things like the Bad Company 2 remake

Good to see a lot of the old faces still doing their thing! I'm not involved in game development anymore, but as D13 said it's nice to keep an eye on what the new generation of devs are doing. Instead of making games, I am now an English Secondary teacher which is almost the same thing....

So could someone please explain to me then, is GameGuru essentially FPSC Reloaded under a different name? Last time I checked, FPSCR was doing well and the software seemed to be in pretty good shape! However, the talk of GameGuru being 'miles from anything' suggests that this is a new product in early development. Could anyone enlighten me on this?

I'll be hanging around guys, mainly just to observe the projects of others as I am well past my game-dev prime now. I'm quite impressed by the talent I've seen on here so far though

GameGuru is essentially FPSC Reloaded but was rebranded with the intention being that GameGuru will eventually be able to create other game genre's as well like 3rd person ...3D Isometric or platform games for example ...

At the moment GG is being updated with the engine being re-written in C++ which will be out for the next update optimising the engine for far better FPS along with DX11 support bringing GameGuru much more up to date ..

3rD person fantasy and Isometric is already possible but at the moment only one character is 100% 3rD person compatible however this will change as the features are added via the community voting system ....
https://www.game-guru.com/feature-vote

Hope that gives you some insight on GameGuru and where its going ....Welcome back

Hi CoZ,

Nice to see you here.

Quote: "I am well past my game-dev prime now"

Not really I am sure - as has always been the case there are still would be game makers of all ages and levels of interest around.

Despite my own apparent demise I am still here in spirit. I still visit these forums mostly every day and sometimes for a great deal of time at a session. I post almost never now and have no comment in the main but I still download and test every version of the product range as I have always done since FPSC EA, though I only use it in that scenario (testing - again spending a considerable amount of time doing so) as its not usable for me in a real game making scenario and not suitable and or capable enough for my purposes at least.

Anyway hopefully you are well and will visit more often.

Best wishes to you and everyone else.

Peter

I wouldn't be surprised if I have this floating around somewhere. I still have my FPS Creator CD and case. I'm of a younger generation so it was my father who was originally providing me with all these products at the time. He was more active in the community when Dark Basic was fresh. As for myself, I have been using the TGC products for little over a decade now. So I guess I could consider myself an "oldie" in the community. I've been using the forums for quite some time too.

should be my 10 year in a few months, hard to believe that long ago i started with FPSC. I don't post much but make some models for the Guru store now. I remember your games on the old boards, very talented. good to see you in these parts. take care all

some things i remember from the old days, KeithC's WW2 pack, that graveyard pack with the crawling zombies, fps-files.net, the HL2 zombie on fps-files, butterfly's awesome window light ray pack, when EAI first showed up on the forums with those amazing weapons at the time, hmm thinking hard on the old days. Brought my first 3D model into the engine from a really cool tool by BULLSHOCK back in the day, it was an entity creator type tool, also had a suite that could import weapons, forgot the name. Also, SIGNS? anyone remember that program? I forgot who developed the program, a very talented user. It first was able to create entities like picture frames and such, but was later upgraded to create your own segments.

I remember when modding got really big around 107, the first one I had was AirMod by airslide, then Plystire's awesome mod that brought in a very fluid dual wielding system. Nickydude made a really cool post epoc pack, and also how could anyone forget Cosmic Prophet's amazing packs for FPSC, not sure if he's around these parts. Hmm not sure if anyone remembered a modeler named Heltor, he passed away and it was a big deal if i remember correctly.

All that i can really remember off the top of my head. it's been a long ride with TGC and its really a part of growing up for me at this point. would love to read others memories

Hi Coz, Good to see you, I wasn't really active on the old FPSC boards but I started with FPSC in 2006. It is funny but I am still working with FPSC and GameGuru. Just created a level with the FPSC "Black Ice Mod"

Been around for 10 years although I started more on the DBPro side of things. Didn't really post much on the old forums (from what I remember). But it's always good to know "the oldies" are still around. There are a lot of talented members here. Not sure I'll be posting much on the GG forums apart from doing the odd tutorial here and there.

Woah! Uman! Had no idea you were still going. You are like an FPSC dinosaur in my eyes. A always remember feeling frustrated for you, as it looked like you had some awesome projects going, but FPSC never let you play ball it it, even many updates later.

It's nice to see some of the old names like BULLSHOCK etc come up too! Although as team halo said, I do indeed member when Heltor passed away on the old FPSC forums, it was a very sad day indeed . On a happier note, is Bond1 still about? I remember he not only created some seriously good media for FPSC, but he was a valuable asset when I started coding shaders for the old FPSC. Which reminds me, are GameGuru shaders still written in HLSL? If so, I'm getting back on the shader creation waggon, and will happily create some for this engine

Just been having a quick browse round the WIP section of the board, and whilst it's obvious the engine is still in early days, I can already see some really talented artists on here. I shall be keeping a close eye on you all for sure

I've also been here for donkey's years. Think I've been around for 10 years after buying the original FPSC. Didn't post that much back then though.

I think I'm an oldie. Hi, CoZ.

It's sort of a shame more classic users haven't migrated. There was a period where there were a ton of competitions which had some very respectable cash prizes and veteran users would have really been able to clean house on those.

@WoI

I didn't forget anyone. I won one too (before becoming a mod and being barred from entering). As did other old timers. There were more winner slots though for most than there were old timers participating.

Yeah, I'm currently on temporary retirement until I'm done with some professional shenanigans.
Other than that, I might be back once we have some architectural tools and proper lighting sometime around next year.

I think I can say that most fossils are still here, altough I kinda miss xplosys (for example) dropping in, altough more quiet.

Well, the classic forum is kind of like Hotel California ("you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.") Classic has an undeniable hook that just won't let go. I'll probably be messing around with it and posting there until I'm dead (which shouldn't be long since I'm already a fossil). Hi Wolf. I miss the good ole times too.

I've been a little busy with family but I hope to retire and move next year when I'll have more time to be creative and a little crazy once again.
If my post seems rude or stupid, don\'t be offended. It\'s just a failed attempt at humor.

Glad to see so many dinosaurs on here! What's the ETA for GameGuru becoming usable then? 'FPSC Reloaded' seems to have been in development for quite a while, so I'm assuming it can't be too long right?

Reason I ask is because I have been considering splurging on a gaming system again so I can do a bit of dev here and there. However, I'm going to hang fire until GG is in a useable state

Internally we are seeing some really great things from the new C++ engine, should be interesting to see how GameGuru works when it isn't using DBP any more, it will be able to compete with other engine then.
