Hi All,
I have created this post so that I can put all the tutorials and tips that I have spread all over the forums.
I will add links here to the ones I have already done, and add any new ones here.

My next video will be getting a Sketchup Model into Fragmotion and doing some basic animation. --COMPLETED

the Applications I use are:

Sketchup 2016 Pro (can use Sketchup Make with Plugins) Downloads here - https://www.sketchup.com/download/all
Ultimate Unwrap 3D Pro can be found here https://www.unwrap3d.com/u3d/order.aspx
xNormal can be found here http://www.xnormal.net/
Fragmotion is here http://www.fragmosoft.com/
Quixel Suite 2 can be found here https://quixel.se/suite2/

you can use whatever modelling package you like i just prefer Sketchup so will be passing on what knowledge i have acquired over the past couple of years.

You are welcome, I just hope they are useful, its very nerve wrecking making videos and talking lol, also I am no professional so I will probably make a few mistakes

Here is part 1 of the next tutorial I am creating, this is a basic low poly chest in SketchUp and taking it all the way through unwrapping, texturing and animating the lid in Fragmotion... once I have the Sketchup part finished I will upload the .SKP file

PS. sorry about the background noise I did not notice the music stopped

Hi GraPhiX

I use Sketchup in a lot of my modelling. It is a very easy program to use to get good results fast. Well done mate on making the tutorial vids. You've got more nerve than me that's for sure. Looking forward to the rest of them and improving my use of the package.

Sorry its took so long, here is the next part, Unwrapping in Ultimate Unwrap 3D pro, I made a couple of mistakes lol sorry about that, I also forgot to tell you to save at the end so please don't forget to go to file save in UU3d and save as chest.u3d

Also please bear in mind that I rushed this, a decent UV map can take days the more time you spend on it the better result you will get, the average time for me is usually a day on the unwrapping.

if you have any questions just post here.

From our humble beginnings of creating a couple of shapes in Sketchup we are now at the texturing stage...

Stage 1 Basic -- Create Sketchup Model
Stage 2 Intermediate -- Unwrap and texture our model
Stage 3 Advanced -- Rig and animate our model

So here is the rest of Stage 2 this is a whopping 1 hour and 30 minute video so I apologise for that, also my microphone got trashed halfway through so the sound quality is not very good I will have new microphone before the next video.

Here is the final video in the series that's over 4 hours of videos ranging from creating a basic model to animating I hope someone finds it of use. I know it is not professional and I waffle a bit but it is very nerve wrecking

Thank you for the comments, if anyone has a better way of doing things please let me know

Please bear in mind I am no expert with any of the packages used I am self taught and am probably doing things wrong or the long way around these videos are only to guide you, I struggle with Fragmotion its a very powerful piece of software and I have not scratched the surface of it yet.

Anyway here is Stage 3 -- Animating in Fragmotion... I have attached the completed Chest Model with Script to this post, but I urge you to try it yourself

Thank you DannyD, I have updated the first post with links to the different packages, some are free but others are not, all of this can be done with free applications i.e Blender etc but I don't use those packages so cannot do a tutorial on them

Also please remember Quixel Suite 2 is a PLUGIN for Photoshop so Photoshop CS6 and above would be required

No problem 90% of the artists here use Blender, unfortunately no one has done a tutorial for them that go from start to finish I am not converse enough to even attempt it, maybe one day someone will pluck up courage to do one, it is very nerve wrecking doing these and a lot of people are afraid of looking silly or stupid, which is a shame really

Jason Forth (AKA Unfamilia, one of the older mods who's not around so much nowadays) made a 10 video series on how to make, uvmap, texture, and import blender modes into gameguru, with the tenth video being a basic intro into animation. This is the series of videos that gave me the biggest start in Blender, he made it so easy to understand.

Here is a basic Tutorial on Custom CubeMaps, the cubemaps are not perfect but it gives you the idea I have attached the Cube Ball model here if you would like to test your cube maps with it. If you have any questions just post here.
The Cube Map Generator is here https://www.graphix.org.uk/app/index.html i will make a menu link on my website once i am happy with it.

Pirate Myke has a tutorial here for using Gimp https://forum.game-guru.com/thread/220026

I must say your cube map generator works great. I just downloaded some sphere HDR textures and ran it thru it.

I will post a video, because this will make skyboxes also.

Thank you.

EDIT:
Here is the video of the results. Not bad at all. The better your base picture the better the end results.

Howdy GraPhiX

Thanks for this...

Many Many moons ago, I did Radio Control Flying sites for Phoenix RC simulator, for local flying sites in South Africa.
I took a Panoramic Camera Pot, 35mm Camera and take a bunch of photos in a clockwise / Horizontal/Vertical method, and then use autodesk unlimited to stitch this images together and create a "cube map"
Our Phoenix scenery builder then use these 6 files to generate a 360 x 360 degree flying site.

10 years later, I'm using a DJI Mavic Air Drone to take panoramics which makes live so much easier.
Will see how I can use my images in GG... new challange awaiting...

Any tutorials on how to use these in GG...

Hi DannyD,

you are welcome Pirate Myke has made some Skyboxes with my app and they look stunning try dropping one of your pictures onto my app and create the .DDS as per the instructions above, I will try and do a detailed tutorial on making Skyboxes with it as soon as I can (well as soon as I learn it lol it was never meant for that )

Nice cube map tutorial GraPhix.

Just a quick question, the way you lay them out in photoshop side by side like that, i take it that's a Photoshop thing and the export automatically layers them on top of each other? Because i've found in Gimp for a cube map to work properly in GameGuru they need to be on separate layers overlayed and the texture needs to be square or you get stretched maps.

Also, generate mipmaps, is that on for a reason? In Gimp i've found if you generate mipmaps on a cube map it doesn't work in GameGuru, looks like it's different for Photoshop.

Hi Belidos and thank you

I don't really use Gimp but I think it is all down to the exporter plugin you use, Photoshop uses the Nvidia DDS plugin which has you say is different to the way Gimp's plugin works, I tried and tested different plugins and no two were the same I am creating the Skyboxes with Photoshop and Paint.net I am not using the Nvidia plugin for those, I will do a tutorial on that to (I only need photoshop to convert a HDR image to a PNG).

I have tried mipmaps on and off and didn't really see much difference in the result, I am not totally sure what the mipmaps are doing in the cube dds

It is also very important that if you do use Photoshop they are dropped on the layer in a particular order (took me 7 attempts to find that out) the nvidia plugin arranges the cube automatically starting with the first image and layers the .DDS correctly (naming convention in GG for these maps don't apply) with Gimp I think it is done by the naming convention.

If i'm remembering rightly, mipmaps are basically separate layered versions of the texture that get smaller in each layer, some game engines use them a kind of LOD system for textures, ie the further form the object you are the smaller the texture it uses etc. i'm not sure if GameGuru uses them though.

Hi I urge you to have a look at this thread https://forum.game-guru.com/thread/220052 this tool is much better for creating a skybox, my tool was designed for cubemaps, the skybox thing was a good side effect but im afraid the app is not up to the quality required for a decent skybox.

Here is a Video on basic use of Qbit for GG, the most important thing to remember is your source image as to be exactly 2 x its height i.e. if its 2048 wide its has to be 1024 tall so basically 2:1

there are thousands of free HDRI images on the web the only thing is converting HDR to PNG Photoshop can do it but I don't know of anything else, if you get a royalty free images in HDR and cannot convert it to PNG send me a PM and I will do it for you

Brilliant stuff mate. I am about to try out creating some different sky boxes now I know what I am about.

And I agree this tutorial really needs to be a sticky as it puts a lot of creativity in the hands of the user.
