Well we're well into 2019 now, and now I've finished with the quest system scripting, it's time to get back to modelling.

To start with this year i will be revisiting a theme I've always loved, medieval/fantasy models, starting with a variety of carts and wagons:

Starting with a hay cart, and a prison cart.

As well as the medieval models i have been working, i've also been messing around with the idea of making some isometric style kits.

Cheers Dave.

Here's a quick video of the Isometric dungeon kit so far, a walk around of a level to start with, then i show how easy it is to use by adding another room at the end.

At the moment this kit includes the following painted ina stylized fashion:

3 wall modules (wall, window, doorway)
1 pillar
3 doors (metal, wood, barred)
2 floor tiles

and i'm planning to add quite a few variations, as well as some dungeon furniture and scene objects.

I've been doing some animation work, and added a collapsing wall.

Got it running on a door script at the moment, just need to figure out how to write a script so it runs the animation when you hit the wall.

Thanks Kev.

At the moment the kit contains:

2x Floor pieces
3x Wall pieces (wall, doorway, window)
3x Pillars
3x Doors (wooden, metal, barred)
1x Table
1x Stool
2x Chest (one static, one animated)
2x Bookcase (one empty, one with books)
1x Bed
5x scripts (third person door, third person key, break wall, break chest, push wall)
1x Torch

A lot more is planed for this kit, various torture implements, clutter objects, furniture etc.

There will be quite a few scripts included too, as well as the "push over" wall and "break down" wall scripts, there will be revised door and key scripts (the stock door script doesn't work properly in third person because the player visible command is broken by the camera distance), a basic hud with coin collecting so the chests will grant random amounts of coins, etc.

Also i have already started planning the next kit, a sandstone tomb kit with egyptian and mesoamerican tones, and then maybe after that a sci-fi kit.

Thanks Bod, i've never played those, but older isometric games are were my inspiration comes from, i used to love that style of game, from the original Neverwinter Knights, to the original Diablo, once i started playing i couldn't stop.

I know quality wise it's no Diablo 3, i could never model to that level of quality, but i'm fairly pleased with how it's come out so far. Although i've had to adjust some of the stock scripts to get it working, i'm baffled that nobody has mentioned before that the door script fails to work in third person because the camera offsets break player visibility.

Fortunately that doesn't affect me and my models, they're designed for isometric third person, so the locked camera angle and distance will never pass through a wall anyway

Was messing about at the PC, planning to do more scenery items for the dungeon kit, and got carried away with my imagination, ended up starting the next planned kit, can you guess the theme?

Kind of, yes, maybe a mix of egyptian and mesamerican, with some fantasy, i'm thinking this kit will be called the "Sandstone Temple Kit".

I've spent the afternoon playing with normal painting to see how it looks in gameguru now, normal maps work a lot better than they used to, i was quite impressed with how crisp the normal maps show.

Must remember to invert the green channel to get the normals the right way round, keep forgetting about that.

Selection, icons, naming, visual consistency. You have a sense of structure and order I am really jealous of. Modeling is very chaotic for me.

Belidos,Since you made a few carts, some Egyptian Chariots would be a good addition to your packs. Since your modeling skills are very good . You could really put your skills to the test and make a whole Egyptian pack.

HI Blacknyt46, i do plan on making an isometric egyptian kit in this style (as you can see in a picture a couple of posts back).

Also, if you remember from my 2018 thread, i have already got a few egyptian style items made (some pillars) which will be adapted for this kit, so they will be designed to look good from a high angle, but won't be heavy in detail close up.

In the past i've tended to flit back and forth between ideas, and have multiple projects on the go at once, and to be honest very few of them were ever completed, this time i've decided to stick to a project and finish it before starting the next one, so bare in mind the egyptian kit is next on my list, but i won't be starting it for a couple of months, not until i've released the medieval kit.

Thanks Harry.

Got a little side tracked this week, took some time away from modelling and ended up scripting a HUD system with Health, Thirst and Hunger, as well as a set of usable collectibles. Not sure if they will be included with the kit yet though.

This is looking really really great

Love the custom HUD too, that's a nice touch for the kit.

Cheers.

Thanks Cybernescence, it's very basic, still have to work on the health, food, and drink pickup scripts, but it's simple enough to be easy to use and adjust.

Had a moment to spare to do some modelling, so started on a skeleton asset, got all of it done except the arms and just had to take a break, hopefully i will finish it today in my next break, then tonight texture it, rig it and pose it, at the moment it's about 3000 faces, so not too high poly for this type of model.

Note: This will not be a character, i'm rigging and posing it so i can export fixed poses to have it as static decorations.
