Hi Guys, Just created this thread so I can post all the video tutorials I create in one place.

I have had Game Guru (FPSR) for about 12 months however I don't get a lot of time to use it. I have only used this about 12 times so still very new to it all however I thought I would create some video tutorials on some of the things I have learnt to help other newbies.

If you are new to Game Guru and have a question feel free to ask me, If I don't know the answer I will research and do a video tutorial for you. I don't get a lot of time to play with this however I will try to post videos as often as possible.

Cheers,

Brad

Talking characters tutorial.

I recently asked the question on the forum about how to make the characters speak. TheSourceCode advised me to use the sound zone and it works for me. It does only play the audio file once however that isn't a massive issue.

cybernescence replied with another option that I will explore later. My original question was here: https://forum.game-guru.com/thread/212153

Here is a quick video tutorial on how to add the sound zone to make it look like your characters are speaking for other newbies wanting to know. Thanks for the advice TheSourceCode and cybernescence, much appreciated.

Here is the video tutorial:

Here is V2 of the talking characters video. I asked the question here https://forum.game-guru.com/thread/212153 and received some helpful advice. Also a big shout out to cybernescence for taking the time to write the script for me.

In the first video I used the sound zone to make the character speak, works great however only plays the audio on the first instance. Using the shop keeper script I can make the character speak every time a player approaches the character, plus I can add subtitles or captions.

Ok so I made a video to show you what I was doing so you may be able to see where I was going wrong however in the process I worked out what to do. I have published the video to show others what I did to solve my problem with multiple textures.

I will do some video tutorials on Sketchup soon. As usual I have spent way too much time on GG over the past few days, I was planning on doing some work the past few days however found myself playing with this instead. (Don't tell the wife as I have been telling her to stay out of my office as I am working, lol).

Hi Bradaus

Firstly let me explain ..... If you have 2 textures then you edit both in the ".x Model " to the new names and then they will work ... But you are correct you do not have to do this but here is the reason why I do ...

It makes in easier when or if you normal map your textures .... so after normal mapping rather than having one named like ...
" BUNKERWALL1.xconcretefloor_d.dds " Your textures are better named "BUNKERWALL1_d.dds" etc

it just made things easier when normal mapping the textures to have smaller names .... But as long as the textures are the same name as the ones in the .X file you can rename it whenever you like to whatever you like..

But these are Great tutorials ...Please keep them coming

I am in the middle of documenting some of the things I learn for my own reference. I will keep posting updated versions of the document as I add to it. If this is in breach of something with GG or the Script owners. (I have added how to setup the RPG script in this and will be adding setup guides to other scripts I buy) please let me know and I will remove from the public version.

I would like to point out that this is just something I am doing myself so I have some reference material to look back on. This is not an official manual for GG and should not be mistaken for official documentation.

I will also post all the Scripts I create in this thread also.

******** Update*********

I have removed the document and posted it here http://vunoo.com/ggbible/
This will allow me to see how many people download it so I can see if it is being used. If it is being used I will make a point of documenting everything I do and learn to help others.

This is open source so if there is anything you would like added or would like to help by contributing please let me know.

Here are the scripts I created for the Character speak section. There are 3 scripts. To be honest you are probably best to just use the speak_audio script as it allows for both audio and text. If you don't want to have audio just don't select the audio file or if you don't want to have text just remove the text.

I would recommend creating a new folder in your scriptbank called test or something like that so you can save or your test scripts to this folder.

This video shows one of the ways I build maps quickly in GG using an entity. I find it gives me more options and the ability to create some pretty cool maps when I built the template in sketchup. Probably something a lot of people are already doing however something for the other newbies to consider.
