FULL GAME "OPERATION EX-TEMPORA: LAST HOPE FOR HUMANKIND" RELEASED

SCENARIO:
Year 2124. The world has descended into chaos. Humanity is on the brink of extinction.
You are Mike Connor. Your father John has prepared a space-time travel project, Operation EX-TEMPORA.
The objective is to send you into the past to modify decisive events, in order to change the future of humanity and create the conditions for an alternative present.

FEATURES:
- 7 missions,
- 24 levels,
- between 7 and 10 hours of play,
- both in French (voice) and in English (subtitles).

WARNINGS

OPERATION EX-TEMPORA LAST HOPE FOR HUMANKIND (OET-LHFH) is an amateur game, entirely made by a single person, with easy to use but technically limited, GAMEGURU MAX software.
It cannot be compared with independent games developed by multidisciplinary teams, using professional engines (UNITY, UNREAL ENGINE, etc.).
It is even less likely to be compared with commercial professional games.

OET-LHFH does not have the ambition to be, among the games already created (or which will be) with GAMEGURU MAX, the most graphically beautiful, or the most technically advanced.

The only goal was to create a real full game, with a complete story, not just a demo of a few levels, trying to best use the capabilities of GAMEGURU MAX.

AVAILABILITY

OET-LHFH full game (7 episodes) is available for free on the Itch.io website.
(two files to download, one on Itch.io, one on Mega.nz)

https://operation-ex-tempora.itch.io/operation-ex-tempora-last-hope-for-humankind-episode-1
to
https://operation-ex-tempora.itch.io/operation-ex-tempora-last-hope-for-humankind-episode-7

To avoid spoiling the gaming experience and the continuity of the storyline, it is imperative to play the different episodes in chronological order.

GOOD GAME!
AND IF YOU ENJOYED IT, SPEAK ABOUT IT AROUND YOU (ON WEB SITES, FORUMS, SOCIAL NETWORKS,..)..., BECAUSE DON'T FORGET THAT YOU ARE THE LAST HOPE FOR HUMANKIND!!
THANK YOU.

POST SCRIPTUM
Sorry for no communication during development, but I wanted to be sure to reach the end of the project without crash before announcing anything.
On the other hand, as English is not my native language, I am not very comfortable participating in discussions or forums. (everything you read goes through Google translator!).

Thank you to those who read my post above (almost 300 views in a few days!).
The downloads have started...slowly...but surely! Thank you so much!
Feel free to download and do the missions.
Don’t hesitate to talk about it (forums, social networks) in your respective countries!
If members of the Gameguru community don't play games created with Gameguru, then who will?
If members of the Gameguru community don't encourage amateur developers, then who will?
No one will spend months and hundreds of hours on Gameguru anymore and this forum will die!
I'm impatiently awaiting the first feedback, and the comments from those who have completed all the missions and completed the game.
Even if they are negative, that’s the name of the game!
Sincerely
Mike Duke

Hello operation ex tempora,

I already tested many games created with GameGuru Classic and with GameGuru MAX.

I patiently played a few hours with your game to continue my mission as far as possible but now I'm throwing in the towel.

There is major problem with GameGuru ( MAX and Classic) : when a saved game is reloaded then many things don't work anymore.
I found the valve, the mallet, additional weapons and those ones are no more available or are considered as not found when I want to use them.

Beside that there are a few bugs and that's why I was forced to reload some saved games.

I also noticed that the sound level of the music (in the introduction and in the menu) is far too high compared to the sound level in the game and it is not good for my ears. When you try to adjust the sound level in the menu, it doesn't work as expected.

A few other remarks :

If some visitor in this forum wants to install your game then (s)he could face some difficulty because it is not clearly explained how you must combine those two downloaded files (one from itch.io and the other one from mega.nz). Furthermore you need a specific file decompressor for the .rar format.

I was disappointed by the graphics quality at the start of the game : a monotonous maze between these high hills.
But the story and the graphics became more attractive when I walked into the building (the briefing room, the laboratory).

I think that you could create two different versions of your game : one for the English-speaking players and a second one for the French-speaking players. You should have a look at the "read aloud" tools available in Microsoft Edge.

There are some very good ideas in your game, it is not a stupid game "kill them all".

It is obvious that you have devoted a great deal of time to this carefully developed project. Congratulations.

Thanks a lot Mikeven for playing my game.

I'm sorry you had some bugs (apparently on mission one); yet several people have completed it without problem.
Maybe I'll make a speedrun type video to show that everything works.
The problem with bugs is that they are "random"!

I know the problems of gameguru max, that's why I wrote in the manual paragraphs 6 and 7 which are better to follow.

6- ADVICE
Each episode can be completed in about an hour.
It is therefore strongly recommended to play and complete an episode in one goes, without using the “save” and “load” functions (like in an “old-fashioned” game). It is not completely guaranteed that a reloaded part will keep all logical connections intact. In this case the current level may not be able to be completed, and therefore the episode will have to start again from the beginning. These are the hazards of the “whims” and the “unpredictable” side of GAMEGURU MAX!
In the event of "death", the game resumes at the last "checkpoint" if all goes well. However, to avoid any risk of problems (see note above concerning logical connections), it is advisable to avoid “dying”! It is therefore preferable to advance cautiously in levels loaded with enemies, and to wait for life to regenerate before continuing.

7- TIPS
- There are many references to films, TV series or video games in the levels;
- There is a secret area to discover in episode 6;
- In the event of a blocking bug, preventing you from completing a level and progressing in the episode, it is advisable to first try to replay the episode from the beginning.
If the problem persists, it is possible to try playing each level of the episode independently. To do this, you must do the following:
- If the problem concerns episode X, make a separate backup of the folder OET-LHFH EPISODE X/Files/mapbank, containing levelx.1, levelx.2….
- In the game's "mapbank" folder, delete all the "levels" except the one you want to play, for example levelx.2
- Rename levelx.2 to levelx.1
- Restart the episode, levelx.2 should launch
- Repeat the same manipulation for all the “levels” of the episode until the last.

I developed the levels and missions in chronological order, and I think I improved my skills as I went along. I therefore encourage you to play the other missions, they are, according to me, more graphically and technically accomplished.

As you say, I spent a lot of hours on this game.

I know it's not perfect, but I know from having tested it and had it tested that it is playable (barring random bugs, like your fall in the room).

So I don't plan any changes, I need to get back on track with my other activities.

Thanks again for your feedback. Persevere to know the future of humanity!

Best regards.

Mike

Hello Mike Duke (alias "operation ex tempora"),

Thank you for all your interesting tips to avoid those problems relative to the reloaded games.
I fully watched the speedrun shown in your video and it confirms that I found nearly every hidden items to complete the 3rd level.
(by the way : I smashed the wooden crates by shooting them with my second firearm.)

As I can see in your video, the scenes shown in the last level of your game are indeed much more graphically accomplished.

Have a nice day.

Hello,

- more than 1000 views on his forum : thats's great, thank you so much!
- a regular and increasing number of downloads : thank you so much again!
- only one feedback (thank you Mikeven!) : don't be shy, I am ready to accept all comments, even the most negative.

The objective is to motivate those who are currently creating games, to show them that the Gameguru community will be interested in their work, and that they will not have to spend hours and days on Gameguru Max for nothing.

You are the last hope for Gameguru Max!

Hello,
- more than 2000 views on this forum: it's great, thank you very much!
- unfortunately the downloads are not as numerous: it's a bit of a shame if the Gameguru community doesn't even try to play a game created with Gameguru Max!
- and no new comment or feedback: Gameguru Max is therefore already dead!
If you do not want to comment on this forum, may be you can do so on the Gameguru Max Discord.

So don't hesitate any longer! Play this game!
As it is free, at worst you will only waste a little of your time. And me, I will gain the pleasure of having shared with you, remotely, a little of my creative universe.

Thanks in advance.

OET-LHFH is starting to find its audience (at least in France), and it's good publicity for Gameguru Max.

Hello,
- more than 3000 views on this forum: it's really great, thank you very much!

Here are some comments from french forums from players who have tried the OET-LHFH experience, and who have, at the same time, discovered the potential and limitations of Gameguru Max.

Many thanks to them.

Extracts:

"I was able to test the first two chapters and I had a good time.
In short, nothing but good stuff, I can't wait to find out more about the adventures of Mike Connor."

"I was able to play episode 3; I really liked the clip art comics about the throes of a developer's married life. Excellent."

"For episode 4, nothing to say, it was great. Total freedom of movement, the map is very open. I didn't find the weapon cache so I did the first 2 levels without shooting, just using stealth and sprint judiciously. Nothing more to say except GLORY TO RALAMOK!"

"For episode 5 no problem, very good level giving a large place to infiltration and puzzles."

"I played episode 6 and I have to say that it's your most successful episode so far. I enjoyed it. You worked a little on AI, right? She flees, she takes cover, she takes shovels out of her pocket. It was very successful."

"For episode 7, I'll keep it short, I loved this last episode. You decided to do a more narrative episode and that's what was needed to finish the OPERATION EX TEMPORA LAST HOPE FOR HUMANKIND saga. You managed to make scenes that were honestly aesthetically striking by pushing GameGuru to these limits."

"OPERATION EX TEMPORA LAST HOPE FOR HUMANKIND reignited the gaming flame in me.
The simple pleasures of effective gameplay and clear storytelling. Thanks Mike!"

"As you say in the game manual, you are not a coder but we feel that you have a great passion since you tried to create something very complete. The voices, the story, etc... We can feel the efforts in any case."

End of extracts

I hope that a large number of players will be able to test all the episodes to get a clear idea of the whole game. All my walkthrough can help if you find a problem or a bug. I developed the episodes in order, and I think (or at least I hope) to have progressed gradually. The last episodes are therefore more accomplished.

Good game!

Weekend is coming! (As Jon Snow would say!)
This is the best time to play OET-LHFH and find the many "Easter eggs" scattered throughout the different episodes.
Aren't you curious to discover the future of humanity?
Have fun!

If you enjoyed a 1968 Franklin Schaffner film, or the recent Wes Ball film, then you need to play Episode 7 of OPERATION EX-TEMPORA LAST HOPE FOR HUMANKIND! And preferably also at least episode 6 before! But episode 5 is very good too (in my opinion)! Take advantage, it's free this weekend! Hey but by the way, it's free all the time! In any case, if you don't do it, you're missing out on something, and you'll have regrets, that's for sure!
