TGC is currently focusing on bug fixes before they get to enhancements and feature requests. So, things like planned updates to the visual logic editor are not happening yet, but will down the road.
Because bug fixes are often nothing you can showcase in a video, the weekly live broadcasts have not had much new to talk about. So, instead, they've been showcasing demos, etc. But they've also been answering our questions concerning MAX development.
As far as the DLCs and demos are concerned, they do not slow down development of the software in any way. The demos are made by users, not the TGC team (with the exception of a few old ones, like Switch Escape, that had been there for a long time). And the DLCs are all made by third-party creators.
Remember, MAX is still in Early Access. As a result, it is still unfinished software. RPG and Puzzle elements haven't even been added yet, nor multiplayer and VR. Lee has already stated that the visual logic system needs work, too. So, while development may not be lightning fast (TGC isn't a huge team of developers), they are working and fixes should come, as well as enhancements.
