something struck me when some was asking about cities in ggmax, and so got to work using a really amazing plugin on blender (one i liked that much actually ended up purchasing it) any way the plugin can scan any city around the world and then convert that city in a 3d model in blender.

Scanned the map today, chose a city and random and exported it and re-imported into Ggmax using the textures provided with the plugin. NOW the results aren't amazing, its mainly blocky type buildings, but wanted to share the work here, with screen shots and a link to my google drive for anyone who would like to try the model out for them selves in max.

a few things, might want to resize the model to your liking, but other than that works fine.

heres the screen shots:

and heres the link to the actual model.

hope you have fun with it.

Those are some pretty decent results. I feel like this could make up for a lack of urban skylines if case someone needs that instead of procedural generated biomes.

Out of curiosity, what is the plugin called?

I think the same is possible in QGIS but through using the DSM dem instead of DTM dem files.
With DTM you also get the height of the buildings which can be extracted, though you have the 3d models without the textures.

Those buildings used to be quite lowpoly, so don't hurt the performance, considering it is a whole city.
I use other different plugins but in 3ds Max, the background city in the pic below, is done with this plugin.

Think its a bit odd saying about a plugin but not naming until someone asked what it was called.
But you post a link to what you done.
Why not post a link to the plugin first and then a link to what you done .
Also there is this from OSM .
legal to make use of OSM, but of course you need to respect our open license. Also suggest to make a prominent hint/attribution to OSM, maybe with a "thank you", as a crowdsourcing project has also some social aspects and check if you might release your game/libs/... as open source to give something back to the community

But please pay attention that your gamers don't start editing OSM to create levels

As somebody who wants to create games with a contemporary urban feel, any effort to have some sort of city editor in this is going to look trash until theres a way to build roads.
If they would give us a road editor i would finally be happy.
Or at least add asphalt to the terrain painting tool would be a start
