Misinformation breeds frustration and frustration breeds bad steam reviews.
Emissive still does not work 100%, there are many things to tweak and even add or improve.
GGMax should reflect the original color of the emitter, not turn the reflection into pure white.
I've been working with emissive files since day 1 of GGMax, but to be honest I hadn't tried it yet, with the EA version.
So after reading this post I decided to try it.

I have taken the image posted in the previous link as a reference, to try to reproduce the scene, although a little in my own way.

In GGMax EA

There you can even add a lot of stuff to care about details; that's just a fast try, but it can be improved.
Just work with emissive maps plus some puddle here and there.
Take care of the source light and place your puddle according to the light ray.
You will have to work your textures (PBR of course) to get them a bit wet, and ready to react to the emitter reflections, notice how the pavements react to the light sources, even where they aren't a puddle, just the asphalt
choose the appropriate sky settings (using auto-generated sky here).
Play with sky settings, the sky usually matters, in the final result.
Play with SSR and activate the rain (although it is not working as expected, in the last build) notice there is no rain present in the video, despite it being activated in the weather setting.
With the emissive effect, you get better results if you do your emissive mesh as a standalone mesh, i.e. in a streetlight, the bulb being a standalone mesh, due the bulb is the only mesh that is going to reflect, so, you make the life easier to GGMax.
I use to make my own emissive maps, using the old GG way.
Based on the photo used as a reference, I used the vanishing point to start modeling the scene, this may help someone as a reference point.
GGMax has bugs to fix, things to improve, and things to add; But with a little work and imagination, many things can be done.
This shows that it cannot be done as I really would like, but it can be done.
When GGMax works the emissive properly, then it's time to start working on the scene seriously.
