I know there is currently no out-of-the box feature for creating custom HUDs, but presumably it is possible.

Does anyone know of a tutorial?

I don't know why but they refuse to create even a basic GUI editor games like Doom 3 had.

Even for basic GUI changes, you have to mess around with scripts (last I checked with GG classic).

No one has refused anything . A built in Hud editor is on the way and there are a couple free ones going around.

Oh? I remember reading some YouTube comment (or maybe it was in video) from Lee where GUI editor was "not planned" (could be someone else who said it).

So where can I find out about this HUD editor that is on the way? Links?

Actually, would be nice to know where the free ones, that work with MAX, are as well (since something like this should be shipped built in, like particle editor and not paid for separately).

As already stated there are plans to add it to MAX, it is early access not complete software.

So the options are: script your own, use paid or free third party options, or wait for it to be included in the software.

I'm trying to buy this with a CC but can't click the PayNow button. I don't see any errors and I've tried 2 different browsers. Weird. I never had this issue.

No idea why such a crucial feature is mentioned in passing in a random video and not posted on front page but whatever, as long as it's planned, that's a good thing.

Instead of VR and all that nonsense, I'm pretty sure majority of people would prefer these editors in-built than random third party add-ons.

I find myself agreeing. I think custom HUDs should have been implemented alongside title screen editing. VR frankly leaves me cold.

That said, I am grateful for the third-party HUD app. Nice work!

I'd love to try VR, I'm excited about it myself. But reality is, according to Steam survey, only 2.12% of Steam users have VR gear. Most people will not be able to afford a rig capable of VR and chances of it being "big" on PC are very low, anytime soon. And if you want to create a VR title, you go for Unreal first, Unity second (maybe Godot in the future).

Meanwhile, every GG game played on YouTube to Steam has same default UI, splash screen, main menu.. instantly resulting in people giving up all hope on that game title when they see it in action or even screenshots on store page.

I'm still stunned how GUI, particles, AI were not taken care of in GG "Classic", but if TGC is planning to fix these issues with Max, good for them. That's the whole reason a lot of us pre-ordered Max, despite the disappointment GG "classic" was.

I'm wondering how many such features are planned, since not everyone watches every video on YouTube so we are probably missing a lot of information.

HudGen is $2.00 on TGC store, i put a lot of time and effort into my Applications, there is a lot of costs involved in development, i think it is well worth $2, Also don't forget ALL my applications get updated with new features on a regular basis.
All I ask for is the price of a Coffee for HudGen

If you have the minimum specs to run Max now then chances are you already have the specs to run VR.
I used to run my Quest with a GTX 970 quite happily and a lot of games now come with VR support. In fact most top titles require high end cards these days. Also just 2% of steam users is around the 520,000 users mark all wanting to play VR titles. Not to be sniffed at

Your add-on looks good actually, I will most likely end up getting it.

BTW, couldn't tell from video, but can you re-position the HUD items (like from bottom left to center or top) and resize them? I am guessing icons are pulled from MAX installation? Can you change colors (tinting maybe) of items on-screen? (like health/ammo number becoming red as it gets lower)

At the moment screen positioning is not available sorry! the icons were created by me, HudGen will backup default icons allowing you to restore them.

If i am Totally Honest i was not going to release HudGen,
TGC are creating an HUD Designer for MAX but users asked me to make it available.

I do not blame you with users above saying how a Hud generator is such a high priority it should be selling like hot cakes without a second thought for a couple of bucks.

I don't know about you but I think this is needed in GameGuru.

Really not the same thing as a just a Hud editor. From editing icons to customizing position and font size and color scheme, these are basics that should be easily customizable in editor. A lot more you can do with UI editor.

If you've ever watched anyone play a GG game, first thing they comment on is "OH GOD IT'S GG UI". I think a lot of developers using MAX would benefit from hiding that part of the glorious GG Classic legacy.

@Harkin Hails M.
All you need to do is put some effort in. You can drag and drop or you can make something unique - it is all up to the dev

Custom HUD:

Custom Pause (Standalone):

Effort is a prerequisite to game dev

The engine is the tool, the dev is the craftsman. And in game dev the engine is but one of many tools required to make something unique.

To be honest all you will end up with is an editor with a load of Templates to switch and swap about and again will eventually become repetitive and recognisable.
There is only one way to get out of that loop and that is create 100% Custom ones if you want to be unique.

if we got hud editor in the box, and that editor let us to import our own custom pics there isn't any problems.at least i could create my own without any problems.

Yes that would be good and solve the problem. I was not thinking of that.
But i still do not think its a priority over the functionality issues right now.

With a bit of effort in GG, you have a customized hud as well

Had to come back on this one although as i said anyone with the specs to play Max probably have the power for VR as well but you no longer need a powerful PC to play VR which i found out today and this type of thing will get bigger.
You can now sign up with servers such as Pluto.
Log in and connect your steam account for example . select your VR game and play. Its all streamed through their servers and does not touch your dinky little laptop in any way whatsoever. Its not free of course but not expensive either but the point is VR is getting accessible for everyone which means VR will be a big feature for Max mainly because no other engine to my knowledge has "Save VR Standalone Game" which is what is planned for Max.

Where, in Max, are the huds located? I backed up my original huds and made new huds but they don't display in my game.

Is this the place?
