Doubt it. It said next few weeks. Obviously fine tuning. But what i see is a full world of trees 400,000 lots of multiple grass a good amount of textures with no issues with blending and a huge terrain very much improved via vertax problems a much better slope maker. Dynamic clouds is fantastic and the lighting is none limited. The characters ai is soo mjch better than classic fpsc etc he has the critters bwimg hardnto kill less predicted amd good connections. The whole thomg is a heightened joy amd when it is completed with better functioning systems it will be the best system

Its looks superb
I cannot imagine Max being released without having that vegetation.
It would have been a crime not to have that included on release.

Checked the internal build it has some grass painting features. So we might see it in this weeks build maybe, or just as a experimental feature still. My best guess is as a experimental feature.

I still don't like the way it strips out the grass you've already painted to paint a new grass. What if I want grass AND flowers? I shouldn't have to load both grass types into a brush, I should just be able to spray flowers in amongst my existing grass.

I agree and was wondering about the same thing. But I suppose it's a system to keep grasses (and flowers, etc.) from intersecting too much? Not sure what the logic is ...

While considering you can currently paint up to 6 simultaneously, it really isn't a problem, just wasn't shown in the video. In other words you can select the default grass type for the area and select the flower type and paint that together, meaning you can paint more then one grass/flower at a time.So you only overwrite the grass layer if you don't have it selected, and technically you could load the same grass type 3 or 4 times along with a flower type which would result in a overall better result.

But you can also changed the density. As you can see by the image it is extremely thick and bushy. You could also change the decal grass type that will show up thicker, the decal texture is usually 4 or so grass blades, there is nothing stopping you from creating a grass texture with more grass blades.

Grass in the internal build is still pretty much broken for the most part, but it is looking much, much better, I can't even see the terrain textures from this angle.

The old grass is a real hogger and pretty awful
Im guessing the new will work exactly like Trees do now, Switching it all on or off and then editing it as you wish or just spraying from blank but at least for the first the first build like trees i think you will only be able to spray one version at a time overwriting the old.
I could be wrong of course but if its using the same system as tree's i doubt it ?

Will have to wait and see, didn't see anything that allows turning of the grass. I will add the grass painting in real time is a LOT smoother then the terrain editing. notice next to no slow downs of any sort. But there is a few graphical related bugs

Me neither at least not at the moment. It would be cool if you could select Multiple grass's like the old and trees in the same way.
Perhaps it will come as i agree it would be great if we could.

IIRC we already have grass in beta builds, now is just a matter of improving it.

You mean Removing it
Ye the old has functioned for quite some time but that will be all ripped out for the new system no doubt.

While reading the YouTube comments, one user asked a question about if the lighting will be improved and mentioned this thread: https://forum.game-guru.com/thread/222221

I haven't used GG classic much, but isn't what we see in this video basically the same type of grass system used in classic? The thread mentions they want to focus on the grass looking fantastic before having the ability to spray multiple grass types. To me it looks pretty much the same as classic.

Maybe I'm just blind, but is there an improvement in looks compared to Classic GG?

Classic only allowed on grass type, now you will be able to paint a lot of layers and the rendering costs will be drastically reduced.Pretty every thing in max has been coded from the ground up again.Differences between classic and max, concerning terrain, grass ect is different. It isn't the same system while they have taken the base idea of paint a flat plane, the rendering detail behind it is much better. additionally every thing is now shown in realtime, before you would just paint a grass mask in the editor and editing the grass in game.
Way different system and result now.

The lighting and rendering is actually pretty good, while it could use some minor improvement it blows classic out of the water, if you take the time to tweak the visual settings just right.
