Early Build of the Game available now!
https://www.mediafire.com/file/um34wqx0xx4s163/Taipeh_Contract_0.45.1.zip/file

Hi all! I want to show to you, a small side Project I have been working on.
I needed a change from all the grey and brown from Dark Skies
Here it is! The Spiritual Sucessor to "Cold Contract"

The Game will be available for download to everyone for free.

Set in the Year 2039 the player finds himself in a dystopian sci fi world in which the buildings of the big corporations
adorn the skyline of the cities.

Global pandemics and permanent supervision are on the daily order.
Garbage is a huge problem worldwide and that is also noticeable.
In this World, everyone must care for themselves.
The player fulfills a contract in new taipei in which he has to deal with the powerful oxygenetic group.

Immerse yourself in a fascinating and lively sci fi world - Rich in detail and atmosphere.
The Soundtrack was again handcrafted by me. Huge Thanks also to lafette for supporing this Project with his amazing Modelling work.
I also wanna give a shoutout to Wolf for testing, C4ever08 for help with Mixamo/Fuse Characters and smallg for scripting help.

The Game should be ready within the next months. Since I am working on this besides Dark Skies, I will not set a release date tho.
Here is a short Video of what the Game looks like:

This looks great. I love the train in the background, really gives a sense of depth and life to the world having little things like that in there. It's nice to work on a little side project from time to time to refresh your palette and explore new ideas. I would question the name though, Taipei makes sense, but "Taipeh" sounds a bit...apathetic? (reminds me of the word "meh") Unless that's what you're going for?

Regardless, I'm looking forward to following the progress of this one

Every thread you create, the world becomes a better place for gamers. But seriously, this looks great, the ambience in the video is good, and the audio interacts well with and integrates itself into the scene (both effects and the music). The train is a nice touch too!

It must be a nice change to work on some upbeat urban environments as a change from the dreary apocalyptic style of dark skies, so have some fun with it! Also, just a question, are the pedestrians walking in a loop?

Keep us posted.

Nailed it. It is refreshing indeed and I can learn so many things about designing cities.. Its awesome.

Quote: "but "Taipeh" sounds a bit...apathetic?"

Lol thats actually the german way to pronounce it... I can still change it tho but I think it doesnt matter THAT much^^

Quote: "Also, just a question, are the pedestrians walking in a loop?"

Yea! Some sit on a chair or talk.. and some walk their paths as you explore the city.

You've once again done something visually that I have not seen in Game Guru prior. This is shaping up to be something I'd really love to experience as a full game. And don't get me wrong, I love what you did with dark skies but I find this more interesting Personal preference and all.

As I have the privilege of beta testing some of these formidable levels, I can attest to the quality of this project.
I know of Duke's philosophy of not spoiling the game too much with screenshots which is why I assume he has not featured the second level of this game here yet. This second level is the fattest, best looking and feeling game guru level I have yet played. Certainly makes me consider improving a few things about my own work. Very inspiring in scope and scale.

Recorded some gameplay myself. Excellent evocative level design in this one. Sure, combat is still a bit rough but its an early version

Okay everyone, there is a new dowload link BUT -
It is a test version really, only the first level is done - there are 2 unfinished levels in the game, its just for testing.
This is nowhere near done.

I would also like to enourage the people who download and play the game to leave a comment here and let me know their thoughts.
I spent many hours creating this

Looks fantastic!

But is it just me? I cannot pick up the med-kits and also the introduction text does not go away any more.

Put this aside it does look great, just my Palit GeForce 750 Ti (2GB) seems a bit shy with the reshade-stuff, I can only get some 18-21 FPS, 33 in corners where the medkits are ....

Also soundtrack does not play while the level loads, which is a shame. It sounds awesome! /.-)

Thanks for the feedback!

That's most likely because you had caps lock enabled ? Make sure you dont have it activated because it can cause some bugs with the controls.

Hello Duchenkuke,

Thank you for sharing your project.
I hope that I downloaded the latest version (Taipeh_contract_ 0.45.1, is it this one ?).

In June 2020, I played with your game "Cold Contract". I considered that it was a good start.

Very early this morning I decided to play with your new game.
First impressions :
- You have the merit to have created a good musical soundtrack.
- Nice work with that colorful urban landscape.
- I like that train moving on a viaduct.
- Those flying engines (a taste of the first version of the movie "Blade Runner") is a good idea. I may imagine that they could be seen through the windows at the top of that high tower nicely shown with that video clip that appears when the player is approaching it.
- At some places far from the buildings, the sky is reflecting badly on the ground.
- All those low poly figures and objects (animated or not) and textures used in many video games created with GameGuru Classic (or with some deprecated game engines) are giving a taste of "déjà vu". Of course I understand that it is a budget problem for a freelance game developer.
- In your previous project "Cold Case" there were message to assist the player in his/her quest.
- Here in your new project, I wandered in the city, sometimes behind the fences or in the underground, but I didn't feel any excitment. I couldn't start a conversation with those people. (I'm referring to the game "Omicron - The Nomad Soul" : I consider that it was one of the best video games I ever played at that time).

Anyway congratulations for your hard work. It is very inspiring.

Hello Duchenkuke,

Quote: "Wich level did you play ?"

Probably the first one. I didn't find any key to open the doors in that level.

Quote: "What 3d modell did you see in other gameguru levels?"

I saw similar objects and characters in this game (not a GameGuru one) created by a German video game developer : https://jfkeo1010etc.itch.io/the-blob-conspiracy

I could also refer to some old video games designed for the first video cards for the 32-bit operating systems.

(In all modesty one of my threads in the forum relative to another game engine : https://ambiera.com/forum.php?t=9017

Alright^^

Well its still in Alpha and I might change stuff here and there, glad to see its just "similar" objects ond not the same ones lol.
That would have been strange because many assets and all characters have been custom made for this game.

The other projects looks interesting tho, might check it out!

Again thanks for playing and maybe you will check out a newer version in the future ?
I will probably also give the player more hints on what to do. Its sometimes hard to judge a games accessability when you played it hundreds of times yourself

I just finished trying the new level and I gotta say that I quite like it.

This is the most visually impressive game guru game so far, and you are well aware of it, you rascal so I will not gush all over it again as I think I've said it all a couple times before

I'm also amazed at how brave and creative you are with your approach to level design. The fact that there is an entire underground subway in level 1, meaning that the map must be painstakingly constructed way above the terrain line is interesting. The new level has this industrial pit you can descent into as well which is really intriguing. Gotta admit, its very different than my own approach and I can learn a couple things from you.

However, I also have to point out a few flaws. Mainly the whole interior city area later in the level looks very cobbled together, there are broad-leaved tree leaves beneath a set of palm trees (yes, I am well aware that I am likely the only one pedantic enough to notice such a thing) and I feel that some vehicles (trucks, scooters) repeat a bit too often. But I also know the pain of getting good vehicles.

Apart from the combat, that I am sure you will wow us when the time comes for the first beta version, there is little I could say to improve the trajectory of this project... so keep it coming and keep us amazed... and teach that legion of philistines that you don't need the latest tech to make a decent game, even...or maybe especially... as a hobbyist.

Thank you very much wolf... Reading this from you really means a lot.

I will see what I can do to improve it more and put the different pieces of levels together.

I am working on this whenever I need a break from dark skies, its so different and its always fun to came back here.
I got some cool additions in the works that will hoepfully see the light of day too. ( In a new alpha build )

Thank you again for the nice words

Made some new Progress on the Game!
This time, an area far away from the busy city - I just called it the "outskirts"
A lonely road and a stunning view to the city wich is made of decals and entities.

Hey all

I am back with a huge update for taipeh contract: 64bit!
I also made some other changes to the levels such as new LuT's, Ambient Occlusion & much increased movement speed.
I also changed the title music and added 32:9 Support to the main menu.
The Rifle scopes have also been improved.
A new welcome message has been added to the HUB level.

Download and try it yourself!
