The below is only supposed to happen in the Max folder why ????
Quote: "For all pre-order users of GameGuru MAX, you will find the new Friday build ready to play. Run the updater VERIFY sequence, then run the main MAX software, and then repeat the process. This will introduce a new updater feature to clear out old asset files from the Program Files area. Enjoy!"

I have Game Guru Classic and Max in deferent folders , How come after the latest build of Max it also deleted all my user files in GameGuru Classic as well,

All is gone My maps , my scripts my user folder is empty, no projects all !!!
Max and Game guru classic is both in the steamapps/common folder but each has his own folder and have nothing to do with each other so why is all gone?

I have to run a undelete recovery program to see if i can get all my years of work and files and Wip projects back.
If not i think i do not have the energy to go through it all again to start all over again.

Nasty. Back up often is always a good rule. I've lost plenty stuff due to unexpected hdd failure etc. I actually didn't verify Max and have never seen the message about deleting files, so mine are still as they were (just took a mini ice age to update thumbnails when I went to load an object).

Perhaps it's because you have both GG and Max in the same root folder? As it isn't on Steam yet (as far as I know) Max installs in a different directory on my system. Might be the auto removal has identified your GG folder as well and gone to town in the worst way

Glad I didn't force the issue when I installed and just ran it anyway without verification though. Would have lost the last month or so of changes and work. Was just backing it up today when I came across this post while waiting. I hope you manage to get it back okay. I don't suppose it is simply in the recycle bin? That would be too easy

Yes Max should most definitely NOT be in your steam folder along with Classic.
Im guessing that's why this happened.

That's weird, they're not even connected, so there should be no way that one could delete the other. I have no idea how that has happened.

Very unfortunate news, and sadly sorry to hear that. Hopefully some are recoverable

https://www.diskinternals.com/uneraser/how-to-recover-permanently-deleted-files-in-windows-10/
"Is it possible to recover permanently deleted files?
Fortunately, permanently deleted files can still be returned. However, there is one condition! Immediately stop using the device if you want to recover permanently deleted files in Windows 10. Otherwise, data will be overwritten, and you can never return your documents. If this does not happen, you can recover permanently deleted files."

So this won't be any consolation, but I try to backup my personal scripts
and maps on minimum of 3 thumb-drives. No-it's not overkill, I misplaced
one of those drives already. This should be done for all models as well.

You can try some software like mentioned above, or perhaps if you take your system in to a specialist, they can try to recover
the files? But since TGC apparently re-writ new data to the same area supposedly afterward, ?!? Who knows now?
In a typical situation, they are not actually removed, and the sooner you do this, (the less often you use your computer before the attempt), the better the chances.
I truly hope something can help you, in the meantime, I'm not touching MAX with a 40 Meter pole!

@pcs
Have you not backed up at all in the years you have been using GG ?
I always backup to external storage at least monthly and often create Decrypted standalones that i could use as Project folders if it ever came to that .. BUT.. The reasons for this have nothing to do with fear of Updates messing things up or whether things should or should not happen. I just do not trust Windows or HDD's even worse SSD's that can just die without any warnings whatsoever and its all gone forever. Its more common than you think. I hope you are able to recover your stuff although i still cannot work out why that would happen.

@PCS can I ask why you installed into another programs directory? This will cause you a lot of headaches, each application should be in its own folder, exceptions are the likes of steam which micro manage the applications you purchase on steam.
Even if you had not already lost your data if you had a problem with steam and had to uninstall steam you could have lost your MAX Install and data, I know this does not help you with your current issue all I can suggest is third party data recovery I will send you a link of all the assets I have uploaded to Gameguru in a single download so at least you will have those

@ synchromesh, GraPhiX , 3com and GubbyBlips.
Thank you guys for caring.
Yes i have learned a big lesson.
1. Max and Classic was both in the steam common folder, each in its own folder.
but what i can not understand is the fact that there's been said Max will look for the user folder and cleaned it inside the Max Folder,
BUT Max also deleted every prerenal file i have placed in Classic, it did not even care were it was or if it was in a sub folder under scripts, even all my script files were deleted, my maps in the Mapbank is gone.

synchromesh, to answer your question, i do backup , since the last cupule of years with all the problems with Classic, i did not backup .
the last backup i have is from 2018. so i have some of my models back.
The problem is even if i do get all the models back, i will not be able to get my WIP projects back on track again because the mapbank is also empty with my files.
At least i still have the download folder were all the zip files is supposed to be , The download folder size is 62.0 GB (66,577,486,566 bytes)
its gone take me for ever to work thru that and if one day i am finished then i still have to restart with a complete new WIP projects.
and its making me depressed,
How I'm i going to recreate everything from scratch? ( I don't know)

Have tried a lot of free software to recover but not successful.

Thanks again for every one who tried to listen or help.

I don't know what to do next, this is a big loss a lot of hard work on maps over the past years just gone.

I'm certainly guilty of not backing up as often as I should, and I've also accidentally deleted huge folders before and had hard drive corrupt on me. I had some success using Recuva to recover "permanently" deleted files. So long as you don't write anything new to the disk, those files should be recoverable, although I guess the new Max version will have written itself in place of the old version.

All I can say is, I feel your pain and wish you all the best.

@Avenging Eagle, yes i am also using Recuva.
Between my oldest backup of 2018 and Recuva i have to be glad if i can get some of my stuff back , I'm busy working thru the download folder, and it looks like its going to take forever.
still even if i have every single 3d model back I'm still not getting any success with the map files. that is the saddest thing.

As said above, I'm also in the feeling due the removal was done because a program changes, and the windows restore system reverse changes, so, maybe...

OK. i think this was a sign , for me to stop using GG Classic, and wait for Max to be completed.
i have found some off my models and maps with the undelete software but nothing work completely together because some files are still recovered corrupted. So I have copied over the backup i have from 2018 , and at least now have some of my models back witch is not corrupted.
Also Thanks to Graphix assisted me with a link to the models i already had from him.
A lot of Laffete's models in the folders are missing so i will have to work hard to get them back in place.
i Also have a lot of Bods models witch looks like they are ok.
but still there are a lot of other users witch free models i also have.
i will collect them and make sure the files are ok , and then move away from Classic and then focus on Max with the best models i can save.
Thanks to every one that came to my aid. this is still the best forum on the internet.

Ps. it sounds as if im giving up, but no i just think this was the turning point to stop using Classic.
I just don't have the energy to to go thru all the saving of good models and to again go thru all of this.
