The hill on the right was created by the random terrain generator. The hill on the left was created with the GG (classic) editor tool. Clearly, the hill on the right is much more realistic than the other.

Over the years I have suggested that we need some type of tool in which we can take GG's Boulder Hat hills and adjust them to look more realistic. A terrain program I used in the past had a "static" tool which would take smooth hills and add random static by moving vertices up or down a little.

Lee has never answered my requests, but I must say that I feel that the lack of realistic terrain editing tools, or the ability for us to load terrain maps of our own is one of the major shortfalls of the GG system.

I've seen these and while I understand that there are work-a-rounds, I still do not see the results as "Realistic" in comparison to what the random generator creates.

We have a blend tool, why not set it so if you hold down the shift key it does the opposite of blend ????

I think if it was that simple we would but obviously not.

Yes, it is that simple. Anybody could make this equation.
Not as easy as 1+2, but as easy as 1*rnd+2*rnd+3*rnd
Blending one jagged terrain to another is the only question--
so there's the blend tool as constituted.

*Priorities only*

I mentioned this somewhat with Lee (Youtube comment) for creating
level roads that follow terrain heights. He thought it was a good idea and
suggested a bit different brush type to accomplish it. Just math +
*priorities*.

If I get time -- that precious commodity. *Priorities*
Trying some custom AI / path finding is most current concern.

The biggest challenge would still be connecting the dots from the
random terrain to adjacent untouched surfaces. I think the random
map draws a complete equation as the map connected together.

Here you can see some of my terrain work: LINK

while its not realistic per se, it shows that it can look decent enough if you use the tools right and blend them well enough. with fitting props
