Enjoying a read on the net, I stumbled across this post on steam;

Maybe interesting to have say a character or object move along the path to a node within the waypoint and pause, then after continue the journey along the path. This would be good if you wish to use the path for a metro train or something. Of course the nodes may do more than just pause a character or object, it could change the animation of a character or object. This would be a real game changer???

Not sure if anyone remembers the old zombie video from last year showing a similar example (never added to stock, I think Evan forgot ), Having some spare time to quickly fire up gg and take a quick look, with some slight adjustment the video below shows animation state during navigation way point. I also remember reading about custom triggers here somewhere, and mentioned wall triggers for an example, and are still possible to set up. Happy game dev.

Yes, it is doable, even making mesh going in a circle like looping, although it is not an easy task, and yes, it should be.

this sort of thing will be easier with max as you can just expand one main waypoint script to allow easier editing from the max editor so you could tell it which nodes to pause at and how long etc and if you want to loop or not... right now it's all broken up into separate scripts because it's more "user friendly" than expecting new users to edit scripts themselves

Always great when conversations start up, like the old days.
i.e just to clarify; the barrel was placed as a marker and wasn't running a script, video is running one script on door.


@3com, How's things. Watched the video, not sure your meaning by 'not an easy task'. ischaracter=1 handles what you have shown via some fpe modification, for those gg users interested having an object follow a waypoint. Though similar use has been around for awhile, main topic was more referring to animation state on idle/waypoint, from the original question posted on steam. Unless this is what you're meaning.

@Smallg, Hi there. Yes, great to hear an option will be made available for easier use for end users, though as mentioned above. I believe the original question was more geared towards change of animation on idle/pause. Will be interesting to see how further use of scripts will handle under load. All the best.

With GGMax it will be easier to work with wp, at least I hope so.

true, more specific requirements will likely still need to be custom written and of course a custom script made to only suit that purpose is likely to perform better but in Max it would be easier to add such options to 1 big script and then let the user decide which features of the script to use or not - certainly your script is very useful for GG classic, i'm just pointing out the great new feature of GG Max

Ha! I was expecting a character to walk to a door and open it along a way-point path Wasn't expecting the door to move along it lol. Could be useful for a train or similar I imagine

Then track the node (point index) where you want the train to stop and enter some delay (timer), while animation run (open/close door), track when animation finish, and continue along the path.
As aside note, is here where I say it should be easier to do so, in GG.

@DVader, yeah that was the idea/example presented, idle to anim state and so on for movement of player in scene. Personally a pre scripted event could be better in most cases, requiring if conditions unless a predefined spawn point, though then it's adding more than needed.
Good fun though, glad you liked the example.
