@Ertlov/ I was keeping that quiet as I didn't want to lose focus off GG Max But ah well, not hard to figure out for any of us who follow things semi regularly.

I can say from using Wicked I see the same FPS in there as in GG Max with the same scene. So at the moment there's no real speed difference. There's a plethora of options in there to both speed it up and slow it down by the looks If we can get a decent mix of GG and Wicked in September we will be fairly happy I think. Of course this is just one room. What will happen if we try to add loads is fairly obvious and I mean in either Wicked or Max. Even my Hulk and Thing models slowed things down a fair bit in Wicked same scene with them in was down to 80 fps or so from 100+. The amazing water though, didn't change fps a bit, go figure!

@DVader holy cow! Is that what the water looks like in Wicked/GG Max? A HUGE step up from the weird flat mirror smothered in Vaseline we have in GG classic, awesome! I absolutely love to design water scenes, and it's such a shame that GG doesn't have good looking water. Good to note MAX is fixing that problem, so I can stop trying to learn S2 Engine

@Graphix. yeah the GG demo looks a bit like that with them frozen Wicked doesn't seem to like .x models though and converting them to the supported types completely crashed wicked with a near endless list of error messages

OBJ work fine, so easy to get normal static models in, but unsure of the other 2 formats. GLTF and GLB. Certainly not familiar with those 2, not even sure which support animation either, I imagine at least one should. Quite surprised FBX is not listed. I was a little dissapointed not being able to see them animating as well

@syncromesh Still a cool tune even today Well spotted!

FBX may not have been listed because developers have to pay a licensing fee to use it. The other formats, like GLTF and OBJ are free to use. Also, Autodesk keeps updating the FBX format, making it a bit of a PITA for developers to keep up.

You should read up on GLTF:

https://www.khronos.org/gltf/

It's pretty robust. It supports geometry, multiple UV maps, textures and materials (so you can do your PBR right in your 3D app of choice), animations, lights, and more. You can export individual models or complete scenes, etc. It was designed to be a universal 3D file format that anyone can use for 3D apps, 3D games, etc.

An explanation of the differences between GLB and GLTF can be found here:

https://wiki.fileformat.com/3d/glb/

GLTF is a fairly new (well not really new, but newly reworked and becoming popular) format, it's an open source universal modelling format, and is on its way to becoming an industry standard.

Okay! Updated my graphics card from a GTX 1070 to a GTX 1080 ti. The result - +100 FPS with the GameGuru MAX alpha. Now my FPS is 240+. Specs in my signature. Passmark = 17322.

BTW - I now have a perfectly good GTX 1070 (8GB) sitting around. If anyone in the USA is interested in getting this card, please feel free to message me. I'm offering it for $150 go members here. On ebay, they're going for well over $200. If I don't hear from an interested party, I'll just ebay it for $200. I hope it's okay that I've offered this here.

Ran this using a windows 10 laptop with an AMD Ryzen 3750H CPU, GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q GPU (Passmark of 8892) and 16gb DDR4 ram.

Ran about 120-180 fps on a 1080p Monitor. Not bad.

There are 2 main things
OS - Windows 10
Gfx Card - GTX960 or equivalent

It may run on less but not well..

So total side note - but it looks like Valve has just released their OpenXR Integration

Currently in developer preview and you need the steam beta from what I can see.

Exciting times! A quirk of the universe that 2 days or so after I threw out the dilemma of choosing between SteamVR and OpenXR, Steam kindly complete their pledge to support OpenXR making our decision to go with OpenXR the right one We have now started work on OpenXR and if Steam comes through with their plans, HTC Vive owners can rejoice! I know VR is not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it will be a big USP for MAX which means more users, more funding, and we can pay more people to build GameGuru for years to come!
GameGuru Classic will continue to be supported with bug fixes and functionality additions.

Yes that's the whole point of using OpenXR so we are not tied to Steam VR.

The important bit will be full access to the controllers from Lua!

i.e. we need to be able to access the position and orientation of the 'hands' as well as all buttons, joysticks, triggers etc.

Been there, done that, got all the T-Shirts!
