I'm working on a pack of decals to allow Game Guru users to fake volumetric lighting effects like light rays, glows, and halos around windows, doors, and light fixtures. These lightweight assets use a slightly modified shader and simple geometry to simulate effects many of us are used to seeing in AAA games but that Game Guru cannot (currently) reproduce.

The pack features a wide variety of beams of light through windows and doors at different brightness levels and angles to allow maximum flexibility for developers.

I've created light rays that accurately simulate light fall-off in the real world, which can be used to add depth and atmosphere to a scene.

In addition to direct lighting, Volumetrix also contains simulated reflected/diffuse light from indirect sources.

As well as faking volumetric light from natural sources, the pack also has contains glows and halos for artificial sources too, modelled from real-world IES (Illumination Engineering Society) lighting fall-off data.

Volumetrix is currently in development but will shortly be available to purchase on the TGC store.

great.. i asked for things like this for ages.. glad i can purchase it shortly

can we expect other great stuffs from you in the near future.. you're in my opinion on of th most valuable GG users and i'm sure you could provide some diffrent and solid enanchements to the engine and community itself..

to be simple and clean I gladly pay for a firetorch system weapon mechanics (a firetorch to be equipped like a normal weapon, I have the model and weaponin place but miss the flame decay system ..sadly) like the one you are using in your Ignite project

cant wait..

and thanks ..

Hopefully! My main focus is still Ignite, but if I can do little side-projects like this as well, I'd like to contribute to the community.

That's a good idea for a pack I still struggle to wrap my head around the particle system a bit but maybe one day I can mock something up. We'll also have to see what GGMax has in store.

I dont expect too much from Max related to this (particles) (even the new weather rain and snow in Max Alpha were made using simple decals..and i found this really weird in 2020) so a great working demo particles pack to start form would be great for many users i think...if it will come out in near future it will be a great addon to GG engine aswell..and obviusly the could be used even in Max in the future..I hope ..

Originally I was just going to offer all these decals in white to allow the end-user to modify them, but I figured I'd make a few coloured ones to show what can be done with some simple tone curves or gamma correction. Obviously I can't account for every colour a user might want, but I'm offering a few 'popular' ones I think most will find useful.

There's also been an update to the shader running all this which makes a massive difference to the realism of these assets. More on that in a few days...

I'm putting the finishing touches on this now. Thanks to a little help from a fellow forum-goer, the assets in this pack now feature an innovative shader that fades them out based on the distance of the player. Ordinarily, passing through this flat geometry would result in a sudden 'switching off' of the effect as the camera passes through the textured face. Instead, now as the camera gets closer, the texture becoming more transparent, creating a much more pleasing effect. Difficult to explain in pictures, but you'll get it instantly when the promo video goes up!

As well as a vast array of 'flat' assets, I've also experimented with three-dimensional ones too, and the pack will contain a small selection of textured geometry to mimic certain types of light ray.

The pack now stands at 122 assets. Here they all are...

I'll report back when it's finished and in the store. I've also made a little promo video over the weekend, which will be debuting within the next few days I hope.
