I have a couple of questions that need to be answered.
1. Am I correct that when an entity is static, it is affected by lightmapping? Or does it matter?
2. If so, how would I go about making a large portion of entities static? I could do them all myself, but some added convenience would be nice.

You can set it static or dynamic in Properties
Or edit the FPE so the model is or isn't static by default when you drop it in the map.

If you press the "y" (or on some keyboard layouts "z") key you can toggle between dynamic or static when you have an entity selected.
Static is red, dynamic is green.

Correct, dynamic objects are not AFAIK.

You can set that during the import option. If you have trouble with the built in editor, you can just use this command prompt tool. All you have to do later is copy in your select shader effect you wish to use (my default is effectbank\reloaded\entity_basic.fx)

I remember back in Reloaded days, having to change almost every model to dynamic on a fair sized map. Took forever! Was my Commando game. Sounds crazy but I was testing out hiding objects for a speed boost at the time.
