Hey i want to fake the outside when you look through the windows in my building. The thing is that the outside is separate from the inside, i want to see through the window from level 1 to level 2. i made a panoramic image that i want to place on the outside, but i haven't tested it out yet. And i dont think the result will be any good. i did also think about to place a cube in front of the windows like a skybox.

some ideas what could work other than the panoramic image?

Sky cube, sky sphere, If you use the panoramic image, be sure to curve it slightly.
Experiment, whatever works.

@ magicmolecules
You can also try using your panoramic image as a texture of the glass, in this case you could also opt for a slightly curved window; I don't know if you design your own models.
In your case it doesn't have to be animated like in the video.

I don't have much free time, for this reason the window does not match the size of the texture, and it has no frame like the other windows, but you get the point.

for a quick fix you could place a plane outside the window with the desired image

good ideas

@ 3com yes i create my own models, i guess that part is what i do best when it comes to game making. but the reason why im not sure about the panoramic image is that it will not have the depth im looking for, even if i curve it. But i really liked your window and it also got some depth to it.

I think i will try to experiment with sky cube and sky sphere as Wolf mentioned first and see what the result is going to be.

You could make it an actual separate sky (sky box or sky dome) selectable via the sliders to test, then switch to this with a lua command when in the building. You'd get depth that way and consistent lighting.

Cheers.

@cybernescence
This seems like the best option, but my scripting skills are not even close to manage that but im still trying to learn, so maybe one day.
Im currently making a half sphere in blender and then uvunwrap the inside with the image. i guess it will be a pain to set the lightning correctly to "match" the shadows. Worst case i have to figure out someting else.

Maybe you can add some depth using sliders, especially fog.

Edit: Adding video.

im not sure about putting the image so close to the window. im thinking about making it very large to almost cover the building.

So far im almost done with the sphere. it looks pretty good in blender, but the question is, does it look that good in Game Guru?
i will continue to update this thread if the end result is getting decent.
Cheers

So it worked out kind of. The image is not as crisp as i want to, but with the windows in my test it looks quite good.
so thanks everyone for giving me some ideas

looks good to me, honestly wouldn't have noticed it wasn't a real scene outside the window if i just saw the first window.
