I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to preben for adding the draw call optimizer to gameguru.

A few years ago, when gg was DX9 - gamemakers like me really had issues creating larger levels.
With the draw call optimizer we have MUCH more options on how to create our levels.
Gameguru has come a long way and the improvements over the last years are quite incredible.

Keep on it man! And thank you on behalf of the whole community!

It's getting better, biggest issue (for me at least) since DX9 and the reason i'm now modelling for Unity rather than GameGuru is the graphics quality, there are still issues even with PBR added, in fact it's worse since PBR; darker materials with lots of normal detail will be displayed oddlyin certain circumstances, for example when in the shadow of another entity they will have really dark crevices and really light almost pure white ridges, and in almost all cases normal detail won't be as sharp as it should be, i have a feeling that GameGuru is exaggerating normal maps and making the normal detail balloon if you get what i mean.

definately lol, that was from 2018 tho, in the meantime we got quite some improvements.
When I wrote the review, I was very frustrated - I took a longer break from gg and saw the improvements and came back.
Now I am half way through with my new game and really happy with gg.

Long story short:

I changed the review - I am really happy where gameguru goes lately. KEEP IT UP !

YAY! Cheers Duchenkuke

@Belidos : I know what you mean, but I also cannot put my finger on it. All the detail is there, and with certain settings, it comes out great, but it does not tick every box in all scenarios. I think maybe we are reaching the limit of my meager abilities. The PBR (or whatever they are using now in Unity and Unreal land) is so damn sophisticated, I'd need a degree in particle physics to get closer Still, no plans to give up yet, just need to see the light (pun intended).

Thanks for acknowledging that for me Lee, i hope you do work it out eventually, it's a bit of a deal breaker for me because i use GG to prototype my models for sale and i've had quite a few pokes at my models lately because the GG screenshots don't look as good as they should, so it's kind of hurting my portfolio.

@Belidos : If you want to email me one of your most detailed models (with textures) and a shot from Unity/Unreal as a base reference, I can start to think on the solution from a known position. My email is lee@thegamecreators.com

+ 100 Dutchenkuke

Yeah, I can understand where you are coming from Belidos, I find a similar issue with getting colours in Game Guru to show as they do in Substance, but I guess that is post-processing idk.

That said, I don't' expect GG to look like any other engine\paint tool whatever, I am pretty happy with how Naelurec is turning out atm.
To me, the pressing thing for GG is performance. And just keep ironing out any bugs. For example, Save\Load game is broken, so needs attention.

This engine has so much potential, and I would just like it to keep improving.

Preben has been a huge boost for this engine as well as others like AmenMoses and Graphix. And the stuff cybernescence is doing with in-house build of GG - if those improvements were added to the engine it would be phenomenal.

So i would say @Lee just keep the improvements coming, and please communicate with the community, tell us what is going on, where we are dev wise, whats being worked on - idk just keep us in the loop

And as Ducthenkuke said - a huge thank you to Preben as well as AmenMoses, Graphix.
And of course Lee - after all it is his baby....

@Lee I'll have to send you something at the weekend, got too much on at work at the moment so no time. It's not so much about the high detail as it is about how normals work in shadow on dark textures if you know what I mean?

I've not tried out the optimizer out yet. But its certainly something that looks fantastic. Especially since I started going full force on a project that is primarily outdoors.
