Yes and no. The texture appears clearer and sharper, but is also simply tiled, so it isn't UV mapping. It doesn't stand out so quickly here, but usually it just looks boring. Mostly UV mapping is definitely more awesome. But you have to make compromises (for games) because of the file sizes.
