Hi Guys,

How do I make a character like half transparent?
Like... you can see him but only just a little. I tried changing the shaders and adding transparent textures...

Nothing did work. Maybe someone has a solution?

I managed to do it a while back, it wasn't as easy as just making the textures transparent or swtiching a shader, but i can't for the life of me remember how i did it.

@ Duchenkuke
I got it using this texture and the character_transparency.fx effect, you will find it in effects> reloaded folder.
Add an alpha channel to its texture, so that it is semi-transparent.
I use gimp, exported the texture as dds, BC3 / DXT5.
Transparency = 3 in the fpe file.

Your fpe is fine.
Your texture are too transparent, you need to get semi-transparent texture. otherwise the model becomes invisible.
Had you tried my texture?

@3com - does your ghost still work? I had partial transparency work with characters in the past, but now it's either full opacity or full tranpsarency. I tried your ghost fpe and texture with a skinned mesh and it was not transparent. I can only get partial transparency to work with unskinned meshes.

Yes, he does, had you tried character_transparency.fx ?
Getting transparency in GG always is a paint.

Yes, I used your fpe and texture with another model, and it didn't work. Weird. Is your ghost animated?

Yes, he is animated, although it is a very basic animation, since his only mission is to appear suddenly in the corridors, and cross the walls.

Would you please do me a favour, just for my peace of mind. Copy the masked soldier.x file from the characters folder into your folder with the ghost, and change model target in your ghost.fpe file from 'model = ghost3.X' to 'model = Masked Soldier.X', and see what you get. The attached picture is what I get.

I believe that at least lately GG relies on the textures assigned via X file instead of the textures declared in the fpe file.
Therefore you have to re-texturize the model, via 3ds max.
In another words, GG is using the original texture, and the grey scale that you are seeing, is only a result of: Transparency = 3 in the fpe file.
I am using the Uber soldier for the example.
Let me know the result.

I don't think that's the issue. I changed your ghost texture, making the diffuse red, and then set the the bottom half of the alpha channel to an RGB of 100, keeping the top half the same as you had.
What version of GG are you using?

Glad to help mate.
Even uber soldier does, it is too weird why the others does not.
Maybe a crazy idea, but i think when pbr system for everybody comes to GG, many old meshes, does not react positively.

@syncromesh - this is mystifying to me, and I suspect that 3com is using dark magic of some sort.

You have discovered me friend.

The truth is that this pack is a bit particular, I started it, but now he goes for free, there is even a model that refuses to be part of the pack and I have respected his decision, and others who do it without having been included ; You can verify this in the thread of the horror pack.

I've tried differents ways to get Ghost3 behaves as I want to, via script; not success, he want to go/appears/dissappears as/when he want to,
and for me is ok.

3com suggested I use the apbr_animwithtran.fx shader, and that worked. I'm pretty sure I tried it right in the beginning, but something else must have been wrong, so I never persisted.
