So sad to read about your health condition, Jerry, hope that medication and therapy will work out for you.
In respect to your overheating laptop: Since you are considering to buy a new one anyway, you could first try the following :
* First make a full backup (just in case),
* then apply the hose of your running vacuum cleaner to the heat exhaust of your (switched-off ! ) laptop .
IF the overheating is being caused by too much dust, this might be enough to clear the laptop's pipe and rotor wings.
Please note: There is allegedly a - very small - chance, though, to wreck your laptop's ventilator by doing this,
hence the need of the backup; your old laptop might not stay on long enough to copy its data to your new one if its ventilation ceases to work.
