Hello,

does anyone know what the plans are for VR (Virtual Reality) and WMR (Windows Mixed Reality) support in Game Guru, headsets and controllers etc?

Obviously Lee will know, but not sure how often he visits the forum.

I'm asking as there seems to be a fair bit of activity on GitHub that appears to be connected to supporting certain types of VR devices (alphasite branches) - if this is for a planned release for GG at some point in the year, that would be really great, but it would also be nice to know about it in advance . Or maybe it is a surprise or I've missed some info somewhere . I also saw some code snippets connected with multi-player, but this may be a red herring (photon branch).

I've read TGC are hoping to get help to tackle the GG bugs - is that to free Lee up to do this VR and other feature stuff? It kind of looks like that, but is there any official news to be had on plans for GG this year? Did TGC go to GDC this year? Any news or inspiration from that if so?

I may be reading too much from the code changes underway, sorry if so

Cheers.

I saw these changes too and I do not think anyone here can answer your questions.

Maybe multiplayer and VR are wanted features in the survey they did last year. That is maybe not everyone´s favorite topics, but I am not here to judge any decisions, because it is not my company.

thanks Corno_1

I'll partially answer my own question re multi-player from the recent newsletter:

We are also looking closely at a new multiplayer technology too, which will finally allow non-Steam non-owners of GameGuru to play multiplayer sessions with their friends, so watch out for official news on that in the next few months.

Im surprised no one noticed the MP thing on GitHub .. Lees been adding code the last 2 months.
I asked about it weeks ago and was told it was nothing definite yet ..

It would be really cool if GameGuru could take the initiative with VR. It won't be long before the next gen VR headsets are released and when they do... it's going to take off big time. If GG got VR ready now then there would be no need to play catch-up in 2 years from now.

This is a topic I'm quite interested in as well. As someone else who also is working on a dedicated GG project.

I recall seeing Lee doing a working prototype with oculus rift. I actually now own one of these (older models) and would love to be able to create a VR experience with GG that I could utilize them with. For the sake of an expo and for players that may own then, to be able to have a VR alternate experience to our GG games.

Additionally, I'm one of those PC players that actually prefer using an Xbox 360 controller with wireless adapter to PC. I was quite surprised with how many Steam players actually use gaming controllers. So any furthered support in this area would be awesome. I have yet to poke around with the existing LUA commands for the Xbox controller but hope to do so sometime soon to see if it still works.

Could someone provide more input on this VR/WMR addition. Will it be room scale or seated VR compatible?

The only information i could really find right off the bat was from an older newsletter; with my screenshot as the cover

I remember when VR was briefly introduced to Reloaded. I was SO happy then, even though it was far from perfect! There was hope at least. I've been out of the loop for some time as of late battling diseases and whatnot, so I'm really not up to date as to what's been going on (where is the newsletter? I used to get them, can't find it now!) , but from what I've seen yesterday and today, things feel kinda sad around here, lol. I have AGK but I didn't really sign on to take that on, nor do even have that kinda time to invest in anything new. I have 2 rifts, DK1 and CV1 which I would love to see put to use in GG!

I tried turning it on some time ago but it did nothing for me with either rift kit.

EDIT: At the moment I'm kinda in a state of flux. A tumor moved up into my brain and gave me a seizure. Due to local law, I am no longer allowed to drive. Ever. Talk about all of a sudden. Had it been epileptic, I could drive in 90 days barring any additional event. Been forced to move in with my mother, who is in the process of moving herself, lol, and getting the new house remodeled as I write this. Life is kind of a mess to say the least! Anyway, still need to move desktop/rift/sensors/etc from my house down to the new community that she's moving to. I am on oxygen due to pulmonary fibrosis (scarring of lungs) along with other things. I am retired now, about 15 years early. Not the way I had hoped. My laptop overheats and I can't figure out why. I will have to buy a new one! Will edit this or elsewhere as I see fit.

Thanks Defy! Cancer is something else. Not to sound preachy, but, okay, I feel the need to sound preachy, lol, but if anyone around here still smokes, stop now! They cured my lung cancer, stage 4 with 4 tumors in right lung. Amazing science, thank you Merck! Unfortunately, they weren't watching it mutate and move to where it is now. Doc says the keytruda should work in the brain too along with traditional chemo just like they did in the lung so there's hope. Losing independence on a dime is the bitter pill to swallow, which nobody really understands until they have to do it. Had to watch my grandfather and father do it and it was just as hard on them.

EDIT: I don't think I'll ever catch up on the threads I'm behind on, lol. Oh, and sorry about Notre Dame! What a tragic event!

My goodness Jerry you are a trooper. I've been trying to get the wife to quit smoking ever since she started as of only a year ago.

Don't think you've missed out on much, its been very slow moving this year. But in case you missed anything, its nice reading up on Bolt's coverage of the community, "weekly round-up"

So sad to read about your health condition, Jerry, hope that medication and therapy will work out for you.

In respect to your overheating laptop: Since you are considering to buy a new one anyway, you could first try the following :
* First make a full backup (just in case),
* then apply the hose of your running vacuum cleaner to the heat exhaust of your (switched-off ! ) laptop .
IF the overheating is being caused by too much dust, this might be enough to clear the laptop's pipe and rotor wings.
Please note: There is allegedly a - very small - chance, though, to wreck your laptop's ventilator by doing this,
hence the need of the backup; your old laptop might not stay on long enough to copy its data to your new one if its ventilation ceases to work.
Wish yo all the best
Y.

@Jerry so sorry to read about the latest development. Try and be optimistic (I know that’s easy for me to say and perhaps really hard to do)

@all I still see loads of development of GG happening in VR and multiplayer on github.

This could be playing to GG strengths given rapid level design (for multiplayer & VR purposes) which may indirectly help all who aren’t interested in these aspects by keeping sales of GG going.

I would love to be able to use GG for VR for worlds I and you create.

I know there are people who long for better multi player capability too.

Cheers.

I'm not really interested about the VR games.
@ Jerry
I was wondering why you did not come as often as before, but I never imagined that this was the reason, I'm really sorry, my friend, my best wishes to you, my friend.

Jerry I hope you are doing better and thriving.

Can someone give us an update have there been any updates regarding VR?
I was surprised not to see something about it in the new build since Lee covered it in the post before updating to the newest version.
I have moved to creating for VR and would really love to use GameGuru for my projects.

Any updated info would be very appreciated!

No official news on VR yet, soon I expect. I still think it makes sense to finish fixing most of the bugs before getting the community involved in new features (as new features invariably bring fresh bugs), and when we start talking about new features I imagine many GameGuru users will want something else Rest assured my 'not so secret' work on VR is going very well!
