Hey guys, I was in a 5 hours straight work in a map, and when I press "save" it returned me a runtime error during the save and crashed.

Now I'm trying to open the last saved file and its saying "Cannot Find the file ...", so I went to its folder, and now I have a map with 1 kb size (seem it tried to save but destroyed the map during the process).

Anybody know if I can recover this or if theres any gg back folder that save maps last info?

Man, I dont know what to do now

I believe Game Guru does do automatic backups? I'm not at my computer right now. But someone might be able to chime in to help.

EDIT: Teabone says there may be a backup somewhere

Aw man I am so sorry, there is no backup that I know of. I know it is quite soulcrushing to have this happen. Maybe type %temp% into your search bar, open it up, and sesrch for your fpm in there?

I know this doesnt help you now, but SAVE OFTEN as a NEW MAP. This way you have backups. I.e.:

I start a map and save it as "zombies"
Every time I make a few changes save as "zombies2"
And repeat
"zombies3"
"Zombies4"
"Zombies5"
And now it crashes saving "zombies6", but now I still have "zombies5" all the way back to "zombies1"

Sorry I cant help you recover your work.

yes if you're lucky you will have a .BAK file in your mapbank folder (name is same as the map name) but it might not be there if you didn't save the map at all

For future reference: Always have at least 2 save files. 3 is best.

First time user with similar issues,
I saved mine a couple of times and I can see the saves but when I try and load them it fails with "Missing" showing in the entities box.
There is an error message that flashes up very quickly , too fast for me to read in one go.
I think it said an error log was saved in mapbank but I can't find it.

Missing media error dialog. In the mapbank folder you should see your mapname.fpm, yourmapname.bak. yourmapname.dat, and a text file with yourmapname.log.

Make a copy of all of them and set them aside.
Rename the original mapfile to anything.
Chang the file with the .bak to .fpm and then see if you can reload your map.

But first open the .log file one and see what it thought was missing.

I did find the log, it wan't showing because It was only set to see .fpm files log reads

"MISSING MEDIA:
levelbank\testmap\ebe1.fpe=replacelevelbank\testmap\ebe1.fpe"

For the levels that failed to load there was no backup file created. It seems to be working again now and for the ones that work there is a bakup file created.

So... what is this-- a newly introduced bug that has infected GG?
Has there just been an update?
Should I be alarmed and back all my work to thumb drives?

I will try. Also, probably should start another thread-- but it's sorta related.
I have been wondering what the state of rectifying the Save Standalone missing items issue?

This rectifies most of the issues of files not being copied to standalone right now.
